Chapter 150: Starting with the Little One
Melody Monroe’s mind was a mess; she didn’t know how to begin.
Evan Fairchild didn’t say a word, which made her feel even more insecure.
She had no leverage to negotiate with.
"President Fairchild, may I ask... how do you want to handle this?" she asked, deciding to just throw the question back at Evan Fairchild.
"Ian was almost in an accident today. You’re too busy with work to give him your full attention. I’m taking him with me. I’ll arrange for people to take good care of him." Evan Fairchild planned to start with the child.
’Once he had the son, he was confident the mother would be no trouble at all.’
Hearing this, Melody Monroe grew frantic. This was the exact scenario she had feared most.
"President Fairchild, please, don’t take Ian away from me. It would be detrimental to his development. After what happened today, I’m worried and I blame myself completely. Ian is more important to me than anything. I’ve already told my agent that after I finish this movie, I’m going to negotiate the termination of my contract with Stellaris. Once the contract is terminated, I’ll take care of Ian myself."
’She’s really going to terminate her contract with Stellaris?’
’Has she thought about the penalty for breaking the contract? Is the money she’s making now even enough to cover it?’
’Has she thought about how she’ll support herself and Ian in the future?’
’Even now, is she still unwilling to even consider relying on him?!’
"And what about in the meantime?" Evan Fairchild asked in a low voice.
His question hit the nail on the head. Melody Monroe was left speechless.
’The nanny leaving without a word had really backed her into a corner, leaving her with no way out.’
"My agent will arrange something. Once someone is here to look after Ian, I’ll go back to the set."
’Rose Shaw!’
Evan Fairchild absolutely despised that woman. ’Giving Melody Monroe a car? Who the hell does she think she is to Melody?’
’Did his woman—Evan Fairchild’s woman—need someone else to give her some piece of junk car?!’
"Melody Monroe, do you simply not take me seriously?" A trace of anger entered Evan Fairchild’s tone.
"No, that’s not what I meant at all! I just think... that first time was an accident, and that accident led to another one. Forgive me for presuming to give birth to this child. I deserve to be punished! Please, President Fairchild, be merciful and spare me."
Evan Fairchild was speechless.
If Ian had only made him angry earlier, right now, he was furious. Furious enough to want to strangle this woman!
"President Fairchild, I only just found out that Ian is your son. I promise I will never bother you about this—not in the past, not now, and not in the future. You can pretend Ian and I don’t even exist," Melody Monroe said, mustering her courage.
’She had made her intentions clear. This way, Evan Fairchild wouldn’t have any misunderstandings, right?’
"Pretend you don’t exist?" Evan Fairchild demanded angrily.
"Yes! And I will never tell Ian that you are his biological father!"
Evan Fairchild shot to his feet, and Melody Monroe flinched, taking a hasty step back.
"Melody Monroe, I am taking Ian. I’m taking him tonight!"
’Was Evan Fairchild really dead set on taking Ian away?’
Melody Monroe felt as if a knife had been twisted in her heart.
’Could she win this fight?’
’What could she possibly use to fight Evan Fairchild?’
She didn’t even have a guaranteed income. She felt a sting in her nose as tears welled up in her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she forced them back down.
Seeing her like this, a pang of pain shot through Evan Fairchild’s heart, as if he’d been dealt an unexpected, heavy blow.
’This woman... not only did she not want to acknowledge him, but she’d used him and cast him aside, taking no responsibility! And she was still trying to sever all ties with him!’
’And she was actually begging him with this kind of attitude!’
’If he were really the kind of man she thought he was, would he have gone to all this trouble to arrange everything?’
’Could she really not see his feelings for her at all?’
