Chapter 151: Unthinkable
’Or maybe... she just doesn’t like me at all!’
Evan Fairchild couldn’t help but wonder, what kind of man did she even like? Someone like Zane Langdon?
The thought only made him more irritable.
Melody Monroe noticed that the look on Evan Fairchild’s face was terrifyingly dark.
It was just like the atmosphere in the novel on the day he killed the original owner with his own hands!
Evan Fairchild took another step forward.
Melody Monroe was so frightened her shoulders trembled. Her face went deathly pale, and her lips moved, but no sound came out. She could only stare at him in terror.
’What is she so afraid of?’
Evan Fairchild was starting to believe what Jasper Rockwell had once said.
’Women... they really are creatures you can never understand!’
"President Fairchild, if you forcibly take Ian like this, I’m afraid it will only make him more resistant. He needs his mother. He might not be able to get used to your sudden appearance. Please, can you not be so forceful? Could you give him some time to adjust, please?"
"Doesn’t he need a father?" Evan Fairchild’s tone softened slightly.
He was afraid that if he raised his voice even a little, he would frighten the woman in front of him.
Melody Monroe choked, pressing her lips together without a word.
"Melody Monroe, how to get Ian to accept me as his father, how to make Ian happy—it all depends on you."
"Depends on me?" Melody Monroe was taken aback.
"That’s right! If you were the one to bring Ian to my side, I believe he wouldn’t be so resistant. It would be much better than me taking him away by force."
Melody Monroe found it hard to adjust to Evan Fairchild’s sudden gentleness.
Still, the fact that he didn’t look like he wanted to kill her allowed her tense emotions to relax a bit.
"What do you need me to do, President Fairchild?" She had no choice right now but to cooperate unconditionally with Evan Fairchild.
"Today, you will bring Ian and leave with me. I’ll arrange a new place for you to live. You’ll stay with him and let him slowly get used to my presence." ’And let you get used to my presence, too.’
Melody Monroe’s brow furrowed. She bit her lower lip and nodded. "As long as you consider Ian’s feelings, President Fairchild, I can follow your arrangements."
"I’ll wait for you downstairs." Evan Fairchild stood up, grabbed his suit jacket from where it was draped, and walked out.
Hearing the door close, the tears Melody Monroe had been holding back began to fall, one after another. Her palms were slick with sweat—she was utterly terrified. She quickly wiped away her tears and composed herself.
Fortunately, Evan Fairchild’s attitude hadn’t been entirely forceful.
This outcome was so much better than she had imagined.
She walked to Ian Monroe’s room and knocked gently. Ian immediately pulled the door open.
"Mommy, is that man gone?"
Melody Monroe crouched down and held Ian Monroe’s small hand. "Ian, do you remember how you asked Mommy if every little kid has a daddy?"
"Uh-huh." Ian Monroe nodded.
"Well, the truth is, Ian has a daddy too."
Melody Monroe had just started to speak when Ian Monroe threw himself into her arms.
"Mommy, Ian doesn’t need a daddy! Ian will definitely eat a lot and grow up fast! When Ian gets big, I’ll marry Mommy, okay? We’ll never be apart for our whole lives."
Hearing Ian Monroe’s sweet, childish voice, Melody Monroe couldn’t help but laugh. "You silly goose. When you grow up, you have to find a girl you love and marry her."
"Then what about Mommy? Are you already married? To Ian’s daddy?"
"No, Mommy isn’t married to Ian’s daddy," Melody Monroe quickly explained.
"Will you be, in the future?"
"No, never." Melody Monroe denied it at once. She couldn’t even dare to imagine it.
