Chapter 204: Reliving an Old Dream 5
"And then what happened?"
"And then... and then, there were ten suns in the sky, and it was too hot for people to survive. So, a man named Arion shot down nine of them."
"Mom, wait!" Ian Monroe interrupted. "Malachi drew ten suns, and there was already one sun in the sky, so that should be eleven!"
Melody Monroe: ...
She looked at Ian Monroe, their eyes meeting.
"Then Malachi drew nine."
"Did Malachi really draw nine?"
"Yep, he miscounted. It was nine."
Evan Fairchild: ...
’Is this woman drunk?’
"After Arion shot down nine suns, he was about to shoot the last one when someone stopped him. They told him to leave one sun to light up the world. But the arrow had already been loosed! It missed the sun and tore a hole in the sky. So Aethel went to patch it up. Once the sky was fixed, only one sun remained, and Kael started chasing it..."
"Mom, Mom! What about Elara?"
"Elara hasn’t shown up yet. Just you wait."
Evan Fairchild: ’I don’t think Elara’s going to make an appearance.’
"Kael chased the sun until he died of exhaustion and became two mountains. As it happened, these mountains blocked the front door of a man named Gideon. So, Gideon decided to move the mountains, and his sons and grandsons all helped dig. They threw all the excavated dirt and rocks into the sea, but a little girl named Avis drowned in that very sea. To get her revenge, Avis caused a great flood. Then a man named Urian came to control the flood, but the water was too powerful... and it drowned Malachi."
After Melody Monroe finished, she raised her head, thought it over carefully, and said, "That’s it."
"What about Elara? And the little bunny?"
"Elara... Elara..." Melody Monroe pointed at the moon. "Elara lives on the moon, and Marshal Canopy is her neighbor! Oh, right, and Marshal Canopy has an older apprentice-brother named Mako Sullivan. He was born from the very stone Aethel used to patch up the sky."
Ian Monroe still felt that something was off.
"Alright, story time’s over. Shall we go to sleep?"
"Mhm."
As she stood up from the hanging chair, Melody Monroe’s legs suddenly felt weak. ’Why does it feel like I’m stepping on cotton?’
Ian Monroe quickly supported his mom. "Mom, are you drunk too?"
"Mommy’s not drunk! This floor... is a little steep."
Ian Monroe helped his mother toward the small alcove, guiding her to sit on the little bed inside.
"Sweetie, should Mommy tell you another story?"
"Mom, let’s do stories tomorrow."
"Okay," Melody Monroe nodded obediently.
Ian Monroe glanced at his mother, then at his father. ’They get drunk so easily, so why do they drink?’
Lying on the bed, Melody Monroe was already quite drunk under the influence of the alcohol.
Ian Monroe pulled the covers over his mom, then walked toward the large bed and climbed up to lean against Evan Fairchild.
’I guess I’ll just have to sleep with Dad tonight.’
Evan Fairchild glanced at the little rascal next to him who was taking off his clothes.
’He’s really got this all figured out for us, hasn’t he!’
’Doesn’t the kid have any self-awareness? That small bed is obviously supposed to be his, isn’t it?’
After taking off his own clothes, Ian Monroe glanced at Evan Fairchild’s tightly fastened buttons and reached out with his small hands to undo a few.
Evan Fairchild: ...
’So thoughtful?’
’But he didn’t want the small one, he wanted the big one.’
’This little pain in the neck. Just go to sleep already!’
’Every second is an eternity right now!’
Ian Monroe obediently lay to one side, keeping as far away from Mr. Fairchild as possible.
After an unknown amount of time, Evan Fairchild finally confirmed that the little guy beside him was indeed fast asleep. He slowly sat up and let out a heavy sigh!
