Chapter 205: Mr. Fairchild: I’m So Stupid
In his entire life, he felt he had never struggled this much.
He got out of bed and strode toward the small partitioned room.
Melody Monroe was sleeping fitfully, her hands constantly tugging at her clothes.
Watching her, Evan Fairchild immediately sensed something was wrong and quickly turned on the light.
Melody Monroe’s brow was tightly furrowed, and she looked like she was in great discomfort.
Evan Fairchild rushed over. The moment he saw her condition, he knew what was happening.
He hurried outside. An attendant standing nearby saw him and immediately came over.
"Mr. Fairchild, is there anything you need?"
"Take this business card and go get Caleb White."
"Yes, sir."
Evan Fairchild hurried back inside, lifted Melody Monroe from the bed, and held her hands to keep her from scratching herself.
Melody Monroe was completely incoherent, lost in a drunken haze.
"Just hang on a little longer," Evan Fairchild coaxed softly.
He didn’t know if she could even hear him.
Melody Monroe was in absolute misery. She slowly opened her eyes. "I feel awful."
"Just hang on a little longer. The doctor will be here soon."
"No, I don’t want to!" Melody Monroe yelled. "Let me go!"
"If I let you go, you’ll scratch yourself."
"No! No!"
Watching Melody Monroe, Evan Fairchild was consumed with regret. He never should have poured her his drink.
He’d only poured a tiny amount, never imagining it would provoke such a severe reaction.
The attendants outside were getting very anxious, not knowing what was happening inside.
"Mr. Fairchild, may we come in? Is there anything you need?"
"Come in!" Evan Fairchild said, his voice heavy.
Two female attendants immediately entered.
"Get a towel."
One of them immediately fetched a towel. Evan Fairchild took it and wrapped it around Melody Monroe’s hands.
Her nails were so sharp; if she scratched herself, she would definitely leave a mark.
"Mr. Fairchild, is Miss Monroe allergic to alcohol?" The bartender had also come in.
"Yes."
"The drink I mixed for Miss Monroe has a very low alcohol content, and she only had one. An allergic reaction would only happen if she’s so sensitive that she can’t have even a single drop."
"I added a little of my own drink to hers."
The bartender froze.
Evan Fairchild could read the look in his eyes.
’He thinks I’m an idiot, doesn’t he?’
He was well aware of how potent a Long Island Iced Tea was.
But he hadn’t known that mixing the two drinks would make the effect even more intense.
For a normal person, it would just mean getting drunk, and that would be the end of it. But of course, Melody Monroe had to be allergic to alcohol.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
The woman in his arms kept struggling, and a fine sheen of sweat covered Evan Fairchild’s forehead. Regret, self-reproach, worry, and heartache all mixed together, making him want to slap himself.
"Is there anything we can do to make her more comfortable?"
"We can only wait for the doctor. I’ll call right now and confirm how much longer he’ll be."
Evan Fairchild laid Melody Monroe down on the bed. Seeing the agony on her face, he leaned down and kissed her.
The woman who had been struggling just moments ago surprisingly began to quiet down.
The attendant who had just made the phone call walked back in. Seeing the scene, he froze for a second.
"Mr. Fairchild, the doctor will be here in fifteen minutes." After delivering the message, the staff members in the room immediately excused themselves.
...
「Fifteen minutes later.」 Caleb White arrived, led at a brisk pace by an attendant.
He wore a long white coat, spotlessly clean. He was about six feet tall, with a slender build and very fair skin.
He wore a pair of black-framed glasses, and the glare on the lenses hid his beautiful, amber-colored eyes.
