Chapter 81: Humans Are Not Plants; How Can One Be Unfeeling?
At first, Rose Shaw believed the original owner was her long-lost sister.
But she never dared to confirm whether the original owner was truly her sister.
Rose Shaw had only heard news of her mother in recent years. It turned out that not long after the divorce, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away less than six months after the diagnosis, and her younger sister vanished without a trace.
Rose Shaw’s feelings for the original owner were incredibly complex. Her love seemed tinged with hate and envy, a mixture of emotions that created an indescribable bond.
She never interfered much with the original owner’s actions, always maintaining a professional relationship.
So, Rose Shaw must have been deeply conflicted and torn.
’Now, Rose Shaw still thinks I’m her long-lost sister. On top of our professional relationship, she must feel an extra sense of protectiveness toward me.’
’After all, we’re not made of stone.’
’It would have been so much better if the original owner really was Rose Shaw’s sister.’
’Unfortunately, she wasn’t Rose Shaw’s sister.’
’What’s more, Rose Shaw’s sister... was the mother of the novel’s original female protagonist!’
...
「Stellaris Entertainment, CEO’s Office.」
Rose Shaw sat across from Christopher Sterling, the president of Stellaris Entertainment, holding a file.
Christopher Sterling was thirty-six years old. He had single-handedly founded Stellaris Entertainment and had since branched out into numerous other industries. Despite his young age, he was already ranked among the top ten on the national rich list. Unlike other tycoons who relied on family connections, he was entirely self-made.
He had a refined, scholarly air and wore vintage, gold-rimmed glasses. He never wore suits or formal attire. Anyone who didn’t know his true identity might mistake him for a man of letters.
It was hard to imagine that such a gentle, cultured man could possess the commanding presence he displayed while building his business empire.
Sitting beside Rose Shaw was another agent, Wayne Payne, who also managed Rhona Hughes.
"President Sterling, isn’t Rose Shaw going too far? She’s stepping on my toes and messing with my client!" Wayne Payne said furiously. "She pulled Rhona from the production without my approval! I know she’s in charge of the investment for Director Wallace’s film, but this is just high-handed!"
Rose Shaw tossed the stack of files in front of Wayne Payne. "See for yourself what your dear Rhona has been up to! Stellaris has an explicit rule forbidding artists from slandering and attacking one another for personal gain! The only reason I haven’t terminated Rhona Hughes’s contract is out of respect for you."
When Wayne Payne saw the files, his bluster immediately deflated.
"President Sterling, Rhona Hughes has the most potential of this year’s new talent, and I’ve invested a lot of effort into her. She probably did this on impulse. She and Melody Monroe have had bad blood ever since they were on the same talent show. Their grudge goes way back, and Melody Monroe is no saint herself. After all, it takes two to tango!"
"This time, it was Rhona’s fault. We’ll have her apologize to Melody Monroe, and the matter will be resolved. Why ruin her career over this? Rose Shaw, I can let it go that you had her replaced in Director Wallace’s film, but why is Director Sullivan now saying he’s reconsidering her for his project too?"
"Director Sullivan’s project has nothing to do with me," Rose Shaw replied coldly.
Wayne Payne was left speechless and held his tongue. He knew Rose Shaw really didn’t have that much influence. Director Sullivan’s film was backed by several major investors, and Rhona Hughes had only gotten her chance by winning over one of them, a President Sutton.
It was impossible for a mere agent to sway the decision of an investor.
"President Sterling, if Rhona Hughes doesn’t get to star in Director Sullivan’s film, it’ll be a loss for us, too."
"Rose Shaw, see if the company has any other suitable artists you can recommend for the part," Christopher Sterling said, his voice smooth and gentle.
Wayne Payne’s heart sank. It was clear that President Sterling was siding with Rose Shaw. They were planning to shelve Rhona Hughes.
"Understood, President Sterling. I’ll get back to it, then." Rose Shaw stood up and headed for the door.
Rhona Hughes was waiting anxiously just outside the door.
The moment she saw Rose Shaw emerge, her expression twisted with resentment.
"Rose Shaw, are you trying to completely ruin me?"
