Chapter 134: The Longer You Drag It Out, the Higher the Interest
Melody Monroe was speechless.
’Since when was I the one making a move?’
’As if he’s the one being put on the spot! How could Evan Fairchild be so shameless? It was a real eye-opener!’
’She thought that when he’d told her to leave immediately last time, it meant he agreed with her. That they wouldn’t have anything to do with each other anymore!’
’And now he’d suddenly shown up in front of her, talking about some seven-day agreement and making it sound as if she was the one who couldn’t wait.’
’In reality, all she wanted was to draw a clear line between them!’
"Don’t tell me you didn’t mean that, President Fairchild?" Melody Monroe retorted.
"Did I? Miss Monroe, have you been letting your imagination run wild? Miss Monroe, with the way you’re acting, am I to understand that you’re having... certain fantasies about me?"
"Of course not!" Melody Monroe shot back. "Who would have those kinds of fantasies about you!"
Evan Fairchild’s words made her face burn. If it weren’t for her allergic reaction, her face would probably be as red as a monkey’s butt.
’Even if she had fantasized about him, that was only back when he was just a character in a book.’
’But now, he was standing right in front of her, exuding an air of nobility while acting like the most gentlemanly of scoundrels. How could she possibly dare?’
Evan Fairchild watched Melody Monroe as her gaze immediately darted to the side, not daring to meet his. She looked just like someone whose innermost thoughts had been exposed.
’Could it be... she’s actually fantasized about me before?’
Amusement danced in Evan Fairchild’s eyes. In an instant, his mood became as bright and cheerful as a lovely spring day.
"If you didn’t mean it, President Fairchild, then why are you pressing the issue?" Melody Monroe demanded, finally regaining a bit of her composure.
"When someone saves your life, you’re supposed to offer yourself to them in return. Isn’t that the best way to repay a debt?"
"That’s more than I can handle! President Fairchild, you shouldn’t make jokes like that."
"Fine, no more jokes. Let’s just say you owe me for this one."
"COUGH, COUGH!" Melody Monroe nearly choked on her own spit. "When did I... owe... owe you..." She couldn’t bring herself to say it. ’She never imagined she’d be discussing such a topic with Evan Fairchild!’
"As a businessman, I’m naturally profit-oriented. And of course, I have to calculate interest."
Melody Monroe glared at Evan Fairchild, fuming but not daring to speak her mind.
’Does he have no shame?’
’Letting someone owe you for something like this, and with interest?! He’s a total shark!’
’And why did she have the feeling she was being trapped by this shark? With someone of Evan Fairchild’s caliber, if she really fell into his hands, she’d be skinned alive even if she managed to survive!’
"I’ll pay you back! Do you need it now, President Fairchild? I can do it right now!" Melody Monroe threw caution to the wind. ’Who’s afraid of who?’
Evan Fairchild suddenly closed in on Melody Monroe, leaning down close to her ear.
Melody Monroe instantly flinched, trying to pull away, but found she had nowhere to escape.
The feeling of Evan Fairchild’s breath on her neck sent her into a panic.
’He wouldn’t really...’
’If that’s really his intention, he’s not just a wolf—he’s worse than an animal!’
"If I weren’t worried about your health, I would gladly oblige anytime."
"Get away from me!" Melody Monroe shoved Evan Fairchild away with all her might. "Please leave. Right now. When I... When the time is right, I’ll contact you!" She had meant to sound imposing, but her voice grew smaller and smaller as she spoke.
"Miss Monroe, the longer you drag this out, the higher the interest."
"President Fairchild, this is harassment! I could..."
"You can report me anytime. Let’s see if anyone would actually believe I’m the one harassing you."
Whatever little imposing air Melody Monroe had left was instantly snuffed out, leaving not even a speck of dust behind. ’If word of this got out,’ she thought, ’it would be far more likely that people would say she was clinging to Evan Fairchild for dear life—that she was the one seducing him!’
