Chapter 135: Head Pat
Melody Monroe held back and didn’t retort.
’Who would believe Evan Fairchild was such a scoundrel, such a rogue!’
’Instead of staying far away from Evan Fairchild like she should have, she’d gotten tangled up in this messy relationship! This is so screwed up.’
’This isn’t how things were supposed to go!’
’Maybe doing a few things differently than the original owner of this body had triggered a butterfly effect, but judging by Evan Fairchild’s behavior, this butterfly was a hurricane!’
"Can I make a request?"
"What request?"
"Could you please, President Fairchild, not show up so brazenly in the future? I don’t want the outside world to know we have any kind of relationship."
"What kind of relationship do we have?" Evan Fairchild retorted.
"An improper one," Melody Monroe seethed internally. ’He has the nerve to ask!’
Evan Fairchild nodded, acknowledging her point.
Melody Monroe was speechless. ’Damn it! I’ve met shameless people before, but never anyone as shameless as Evan Fairchild!’
"Fine. I’ll be more careful." He knew that if he pushed her any further, she might grow to hate him even more.
’He was quite satisfied with today’s progress.’
’Sooner or later, this improper relationship could become a proper, legal one.’
"Can President Fairchild leave now?" Melody Monroe was practically begging. He really couldn’t stay any longer.
Every second he was here, she was on pins and needles.
Evan Fairchild slowly raised his hand, and Melody Monroe immediately shrank back!
’What does he think he’s doing?!’ She glared at him, trying to look fierce but coming off as adorable, like a cat with its fur on end.
However, after three seconds of eye contact with Evan Fairchild, her bravado evaporated.
Evan Fairchild placed his hand on her head anyway and ruffled her hair gently.
One moment, Melody Monroe was so tense the hairs on her arms were standing on end. The next, her frayed nerves involuntarily relaxed. The moment she felt the warmth of his palm, she was overcome with the illusion of being cherished. She felt an urge to nuzzle against his hand, to act cute.
’I must be going crazy!’
"Rest well." Evan Fairchild was reluctant to pull his hand away. ’What would it feel like to hold her in my arms, to have her belong completely to me?’
"President Fairchild? Have you ever had a cat?" Melody Monroe asked suddenly.
Evan Fairchild was slightly surprised. "I had one when I was a child."
"Even though it was when you were a kid, your cat-petting skills aren’t rusty at all."
Evan Fairchild froze for a second. He glanced down at his hand, a smile touching his eyes.
"Goodbye, little wildcat."
Melody Monroe’s heart skipped a beat. ’That voice is so smooth, so seductive!’
’Am I possessed by a cat spirit right now? How could I actually enjoy being petted like that?!’
’Melody, snap out of it!’
’So, you enjoyed having your head patted, did you?’
’Well, the hand that patted your head could just as easily be wrapped around your neck. I bet that would feel even better!’
’Was everything that just happened a dream?’
’Wasn’t Evan Fairchild supposed to be so disgusted with the original Melody that even looking at her was an insult to him?’
Melody Monroe ran her hands through her hair, feeling like her head was about to explode!
The moment Talia Mercer returned, she saw Melody Monroe sitting on the bed, looking like she was about to have a breakdown.
"Melody, what’s wrong?"
"It’s nothing! Nothing! There’s just... something that’s been really bothering me," Melody Monroe said quickly.
Talia Mercer immediately sat on the edge of the bed and pulled out her phone. "Melody, I was keeping an eye on things while I was eating. Raymond Ford’s fans are getting torn to shreds so badly they’ve gone completely silent. I never would have thought our fans had so much fight in them!"
"We didn’t even have to do anything to clear your name, and suddenly all these posts questioning the recent incidents popped up online. We finally got some payback!"
