Chapter 52: Ill Intentions
"First, I don’t know much about this industry. However, you’re not the only investor. Go ahead and pull your funding. Starfall will cover the money you withdraw. We’ll just consider it a congratulatory gift for Zane Langdon signing with Starfall!"
"You..." Hailey Paige was so stunned she couldn’t speak.
Jasper Rockwell’s words had just dropped like a bomb in the room!
’Zane Langdon signed with Starfall?’
’And the big boss behind Starfall is Evan Fairchild!’
This time, Hailey Paige had truly messed with the wrong people.
Raymond Ford and Rhona Hughes couldn’t suppress a smile, thoroughly enjoying the look on Hailey Paige’s face. What a satisfying turn of events!
"Director Wallace, it’s settled. Schedule a meeting with the other investors right away. President Fairchild is funding this show! And also, who is this garbage actress? Don’t let her act opposite our Zane Langdon, lest she tarnish his reputation."
Zane Langdon looked at Jasper Rockwell, now more certain than ever that there was more to him than met the eye.
’To make such a major decision on his own, without needing to consult anyone, just showed how much influence Jasper Rockwell had with President Fairchild.’
Jasper Rockwell glanced in Melody Monroe’s direction, a sly glint in his smile.
Melody Monroe saw Jasper Rockwell’s expression and was a bit puzzled.
’Why is he smiling at me like that? He looks like a fox, like he’s up to no good.’
Hearing she was about to be kicked out, Hailey Paige immediately turned to Ryan Miller. "You have to figure something out!"
What could Ryan Miller possibly do!
He had only managed to secure the role of the second female lead for Hailey Paige because the show was a youth campus drama, which was nothing compared to the hottest genres of the day. Its target audience was already small.
But Director Wallace had taken a shine to the novel and decided to film it. What’s more, Zane Langdon had only accepted the role because of Director Wallace, wanting to repay the favor of being discovered by him years ago. He was even doing it for zero pay!
It was only because no one had high hopes for the show and investment was low that they were able to secure the role in the first place.
Now, with Starfall investing for Zane Langdon’s sake, what cards did they have left to play?
"The whole crew gets the rest of the day off. Be back on set tomorrow at eight a.m. sharp," Director Wallace instructed the crowd.
Hailey Paige’s face was ashen. She glared at Ryan Miller, "Why didn’t you say anything?"
"Give me a break. We can’t afford to cross Starfall."
"I’m not pulling my funding!"
"If you keep making a scene, you’re going to drag Director Lewis into this. Don’t let acting get in the way of Director Lewis’s business," Ryan Miller urged patiently.
Whether Hailey Paige would actually listen to him, however, he didn’t know.
...
Rhona Hughes removed her makeup and was fixing her hair in the mirror.
Wendy rushed to tidy up the personal belongings Rhona Hughes had left scattered everywhere.
Since it was a day off, everyone had gone out, and there was hardly anyone left on the set.
"I’m going to use the restroom. Finish cleaning up in here."
"Okay."
Rhona Hughes was walking and arranging her hair when suddenly, a hand clamped down on her shoulder. She was grabbed and dragged into a nearby restroom.
She went pale with fright and was just about to scream when she saw that the person grabbing her was Melody Monroe. A wave of anger washed over her.
"Melody Monroe! What are you doing!"
"Not much. Just wanted to ask you something."
"I have nothing to say to you! Get out of my way!"
Melody Monroe suddenly raised her hand and snapped her fingers. At the same time, a pocket watch appeared in her hand.
"You psycho!" Rhona Hughes cursed. Her gaze followed the pocket watch as it swung a few times, and suddenly, her consciousness began to fade.
"Melody Monroe’s injury on set... was that your doing?"
"Yes," Rhona Hughes responded robotically.
"Was anyone else involved?"
"No."
’So Raymond Ford wasn’t involved?’ Melody Monroe was still skeptical.
