Chapter 63: Hmm, How Fragrant
Just watching that woman wander around with her kid!
How pointless!
"Don’t bother picking me up. I’ll be there soon!" Evan Fairchild pocketed his phone, but in the blink of an eye, the mother and son had vanished.
He couldn’t stop himself from striding in the direction they had just been.
Tommy hung up, a puzzled look on his face.
’President Fairchild has been out of sight all day, and his car is still parked at the company. Where on earth did he go?’
’And there’s no way President Fairchild would forget such an important meeting. Why did he need a reminder?’
’It’s just too bizarre!’
Evan Fairchild found the mother and son in a small dessert shop.
Melody Monroe and Ian Monroe were sitting on high stools, their legs too short to reach the floor. They swung their feet contentedly, their movements in perfect sync. Each of them held a large ice cream cone and looked overjoyed as they ate.
"Is it good?" Melody Monroe asked Ian Monroe, tilting her head.
Ian Monroe nodded.
It was his first time eating ice cream.
And he was eating it with his mom.
He ate slowly, and before long, the scoop of ice cream on top began to melt. Melody Monroe quickly took a bite, afraid the melting cream would drip onto his clothes.
"Mommy, you eat!" Ian Monroe immediately offered the ice cream cone to Melody Monroe.
"Silly boy, it’s going to melt if you don’t eat it. Kids shouldn’t have too many cold or sweet things, but Mommy will still bring you for a treat every now and then."
Ian Monroe nodded.
Melody Monroe quickly pulled out her phone and snapped a few adorable photos.
Then she held up her phone to take a selfie with Ian.
When Ian Monroe wasn’t looking, she couldn’t help but sneak a kiss on his cheek.
Evan Fairchild’s phone rang again. He glanced at the time—twenty minutes had already passed!
’What am I doing?’
’Watching this woman eat ice cream with her kid!’
’And I’ve been watching them for twenty minutes!’
Tommy stood at the door of the conference room, waiting for his call to be answered.
"Postpone the meeting for twenty minutes."
"P-President Fairchild."
Before Tommy could even process it, the line went dead.
Inside the conference room, everyone relaxed the moment they heard the meeting was postponed.
"President Fairchild must have been held up by something important!"
"That’s right, there’s that overseas acquisition deal. It’s worth tens of billions."
"I’d better go over my report one more time to make sure it’s airtight. That mistake last time was a painful lesson I won’t forget!"
Everyone unanimously came to one conclusion.
President Fairchild was busy.
He was off attending to more important matters.
After all, the only thing that could derail Evan Fairchild’s plans was something even more important—there was no other possibility!
...
Melody Monroe then took Ian to buy some groceries. They hailed a cab and returned home, laden with bags of all sizes.
Exhausted, they both collapsed onto the sofa.
After a short rest, Ian Monroe immediately got up to get his mother’s slippers. The little boy sat on the floor, took off his mom’s socks, and helped her put on the slippers.
Melody Monroe immediately clapped her hands, and Ian Monroe instantly threw himself into her arms.
"Ian, you’re such a good boy. You’re Mommy’s little sweetheart!"
Ian snuggled happily in his mother’s arms.
"Rest for a little while longer. Mommy will go make dinner, and after we clean up a bit, how about we play with your blocks?"
Ian Monroe immediately got up, hugged the box of blocks, and brought it to his mother. With a very serious and solemn expression, he said, "Sell them."
Melody Monroe burst out laughing.
"We can’t sell these. They’re your toys, Ian."
"Ian doesn’t want."
Melody Monroe wasn’t sure what kind of ideas her son had gotten from her actions, so she decided to use this as a teachable moment.
She took Ian Monroe’s small hand and had him sit down in front of her.
