Chapter 242: Unwilling to Look at Each Other Again
Ian Monroe sat pouting on the sofa.
A flicker of a smile flashed across Evan Fairchild’s eyes.
"What are you so happy about? Mom agreed because she thinks you’re taking me. If you hadn’t used me as an excuse, just try and see if Mom would go to the movies with you."
Evan Fairchild was at a loss for words.
"Ian Monroe, you should know that sometimes the process doesn’t matter. All that matters is getting the result you want."
"No process, no result."
Once again, Evan Fairchild was at a loss for words.
The two exchanged another glance, then both turned their heads away, as if unwilling to spare the other another look.
Melody Monroe rummaged through her closet several times.
’What should I wear to the movies?’
She hadn’t sold all of the previous owner’s clothes, but they weren’t suitable for daily wear. Most were meant for banquets and other formal occasions.
She had bought some clothes herself, but she felt they looked a bit shabby next to Evan Fairchild. She was afraid of embarrassing him.
Some people are just born with an air of noble refinement.
People like Evan Fairchild.
Melody Monroe ended up choosing a more formal option: a black dress. The front was fine, but it was somewhat revealing in the back. It was already her most conservative choice.
Once she was changed, she stepped out.
When Evan Fairchild looked up, her beautiful figure filled his vision.
His gaze swept over her from head to toe.
When he saw that the hem of her dress didn’t even cover her knees, his brow furrowed slightly.
Feeling a little nervous under his scrutiny, Melody Monroe tugged at the hem of her dress. "Is this dress okay?"
"I don’t like it. Change into something else."
Melody Monroe hurriedly turned and went back into the bedroom.
’Does it really look that bad?’
She went back to picking through her closet.
"Mr. Fairchild, what was wrong with how Mom looked?" Ian Monroe couldn’t sit still any longer. ’Mom is so beautiful!’
"Did I say your mother isn’t beautiful? I said I don’t like the dress."
Ian Monroe: "..."
Melody Monroe found another outfit: a blue, over-the-knee dress with a plunging V-neck and a very chic shoulder design.
But this one was revealing in the front as well as the back.
Still, it was within an acceptable range.
After changing, she walked out again.
Evan Fairchild’s face instantly darkened. He shot up, grabbed Melody Monroe’s hand, and pulled her toward the bedroom.
"Don’t you have a single appropriate outfit?"
"All my clothes fit me perfectly... I think?"
Evan Fairchild yanked open the closet. His expression soured even more. ’So this is what she used to wear?!’
He rifled through a few items before his eyes landed on a cotton T-shirt with a cartoon on it and a pair of jeans.
"Wear this!"
Melody Monroe: "..."
Top: 39.9. Pants: 168.
Evan Fairchild turned and walked out.
Melody Monroe took the clothes and quickly changed into them.
’Clothes like this are more comfortable anyway.’
As soon as Melody Monroe came out, Evan Fairchild extended his hand to Ian Monroe.
"Let’s go."
Ian Monroe slowly got to his feet.
’What a waste that Mr. Fairchild isn’t an actor!’
Leading Ian Monroe by the hand, Evan Fairchild walked out first.
Melody Monroe got her bag ready.
"Don’t forget your keys."
Melody Monroe froze for a moment. The seemingly simple reminder felt odd—hadn’t she just been locked out yesterday?
She secured her keys and followed them out.
The car pulled out of the garage and merged into the stream of traffic.
The car was quiet until a phone suddenly rang.
Evan Fairchild answered the call.
"Mr. Fairchild, Master Hale has a class reunion to attend today. When will you be back?"
Melody Monroe overheard and quickly looked toward Ian Monroe in the back seat.
’A class reunion?’
’Ian would actually go to a class reunion?’
