Chapter 243: I’m Scared
Ian Monroe remained expressionless. Though he was supposed to play along with Mr. Fairchild, he pretended not to notice.
"I’ll have Uncle Page come pick you up for your class reunion."
"It’s so late already. I’m late anyway, so I might as well not go," Ian Monroe retorted.
"Ian, you have to keep your promises. Besides, I think a class reunion is a great idea," Melody Monroe said quickly.
’Ian’s personality is too aloof. He doesn’t really like interacting with others. A class reunion is such a great opportunity for him to practice his social skills!’
’But why would a group of kindergarteners hold their reunion at night?’
’Maybe this is just how the rich live. After all, all the children at that kindergarten come from wealthy and influential families.’
"Your mother is right," Evan Fairchild chimed in with a smile.
"Mr. Fairchild, why don’t we take Ian there ourselves?" Melody Monroe immediately asked.
Evan Fairchild’s smile froze.
"Great! Thanks, Mom!" Ian Monroe clearly enjoyed stirring the pot.
"Uncle Page will pick him up. We’re going to the movies."
"Since Ian can’t join us, can we go another day?"
Ian Monroe grinned, revealing a row of pearly white teeth. "Mom’s right!"
"The private booking costs ten thousand."
Melody Monroe was left speechless.
’Ten thousand for one movie!’
’The shock was suffocating.’
"We can just take him next time," Evan Fairchild said as he drove toward the movie theater.
When they arrived, Uncle Page’s car was already parked and waiting.
Claire Walsh stepped out of the waiting car, opened its rear door, and then said respectfully, "Master Hale, time to get out now."
Ian Monroe got out of the car with extreme reluctance. The moment he was clear, Evan Fairchild slammed on the accelerator and sped into the underground garage.
Melody Monroe turned to look back, but Ian was already out of sight. A sharp turn startled her, and she quickly grabbed the handle for support.
"We’re here." Evan Fairchild parked the car.
Melody Monroe rummaged through her purse for a face mask. ’Wearing sunglasses at night would be too conspicuous,’ she thought, ’but a mask can still offer some cover.’
Evan Fairchild opened her door and stood waiting like a gentleman.
"Thank you," Melody Monroe said softly.
Evan Fairchild didn’t say anything, simply walking toward the elevator up ahead.
Melody Monroe quickly hurried to catch up.
When the elevator reached the fifth floor, a theater employee immediately approached them. "Mr. Fairchild, hello. Your private screening is ready. This way, please."
Evan Fairchild headed in the direction the employee indicated.
Melody Monroe followed behind him.
The VIP room contained only a few comfortable sofas. On a nearby table sat a lavish fruit platter, with an assortment of drinks beside it.
The room was dominated by a massive screen. ’Even though this is a private room for just a few people,’ she thought, ’the screen is almost as big as in a public theater!’
Evan Fairchild took a seat, and Melody Monroe sat down beside him.
"Since Ian Monroe isn’t here, we won’t watch the movie we originally planned on."
"Okay," Melody Monroe nodded.
Evan Fairchild didn’t say what they would be watching instead.
Just then, eerie music suddenly filled the room.
’A horror movie?’
Melody Monroe froze for a second as a bloody knife flashed onto the big screen, followed by the image of a woman in a white dress, drenched in blood.
Evan Fairchild glanced over at Melody Monroe. He couldn’t see any trace of fear on her face. ’In fact,’ he thought, ’is that a hint of excitement I see? What’s going on?!’
Melody Monroe looked around. ’The sound system in this theater is amazing!’ she thought.
’This is the only way to watch a movie like this—it’s so thrilling!’
Watching Melody Monroe’s reaction, Evan Fairchild rested his forehead in his hand, his brow furrowed in confusion.
