Melody Monroe stared at the screen, captivated from the very first scene.

’Looks like this is a mind-bending horror movie! Not just cheap scares for the sake of it. A real wake-up call!’

Evan Fairchild was pondering a question.

’She isn’t even afraid of scenes like this, so why is she so afraid of me?’

’Am I scarier than a horror movie?’

The more he thought about it, the more frustrated he became.

The tighter his brow furrowed.

’Looking at how excited she is, is she going to hide in my arms?’

’Is she going to be so scared she’ll cling to me and not let go?’

’Will she be too afraid to sleep alone all night?’

’Will she tenderly take my hand and beg me not to leave?’

Evan Fairchild recalled a friendly tip he’d read about this particular move: *This trick is ineffective on girls who actually like horror movies!*

Suddenly, there was a loud BANG!

Lost in thought, Evan Fairchild flinched.

Melody Monroe turned to look at him. "Are you scared?"

"Yes!" Evan Fairchild suddenly leaned against her shoulder.

Melody Monroe froze for a moment, then raised her hand to pat his shoulder. She remembered doing the same thing to comfort Summer when they went to the movies together.

Feeling the gentleness of her small hand, Evan Fairchild decided to just go for it, wrapping his arms tightly around her.

’Damn it, I’m scared to death!’

’I’ve already brought her here, I just have to commit to the act!’

Melody Monroe looked at him, not expecting that he would actually be scared by a horror movie.

’But I was just getting to the good part!’

’This is so mind-bending, I still haven’t figured out where the plot is going! It’s one twist after another, and the reversals just keep coming. I’m completely hooked!’

"Don’t be scared, it’s all fake," Melody Monroe said comfortingly, just as she would to Summer.

"I’ve never seen one before," Evan Fairchild said, hugging her a little tighter.

Melody Monroe reached up to pat his head, continuing to soothe him. "It’s okay, the scary part will be over soon. You can look again in a minute."

"Okay."

Evan Fairchild kept his arms around her for the entire movie, never once looking up at the screen again.

’He’s even more of a wimp than Summer!’

’At least Summer would peek at the screen during the non-scary parts.’

By the time the movie ended, Melody Monroe’s shoulder ached from Evan Fairchild’s weight.

"It’s over now," she said to Evan Fairchild.

Only then did Evan Fairchild lift his arms and release her.

"Feeling better?" Melody Monroe asked softly. "How about some fruit to help you calm down?"

"Okay," Evan Fairchild nodded.

Melody Monroe brought the fruit platter over.

"You’re not scared?" Evan Fairchild simply couldn’t understand.

"There’s nothing to be scared of, is there?"

"After watching that, you dare to sleep alone tonight?"

"Of course."

"You won’t have nightmares?"

"Nope." Melody Monroe shook her head.

Evan Fairchild was speechless.

Melody Monroe glanced at her phone. It was already past eleven. "Let’s eat some fruit, and then we should head back?"

"Mm," Evan Fairchild nodded.

The two of them drove back to her apartment complex.

"Mr. Fairchild, I usually live here. When I want to see Ian, can I just pick him up and have him stay here with me for a couple of days?" Melody Monroe asked softly.

"Ian Monroe would rather you live over there."

"I’ve paid a year’s rent on this place. It’d be a waste to leave it empty," Melody Monroe said, making an excuse.

Evan Fairchild was at a loss for words.

"Thank you for driving me home. I’ll be going now." Melody Monroe opened the car door and got out.

Evan Fairchild didn’t say a word.

Melody Monroe walked toward the elevators.

Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a hand shot out to block them, and Evan Fairchild stepped inside.

"I’m too scared to drive back alone."

Melody Monroe was speechless.

’So, Mr. Fairchild is planning to stay here tonight?’
