Chapter 296: Waiting for You, Dinner is Served
Melody Monroe had only sung two lines, but the entire venue fell silent!
"Is she lip-syncing?" someone whispered.
Everyone felt the same way. Her voice was just too similar to the original artist!
But upon listening closely, there were subtle differences. Melody Monroe’s voice was gentler, more tender. The key was also slightly lower.
’It’s like her voice was kissed by an angel.’
’Her voice is just too beautiful!’
Melody Monroe was truly one of God’s favorites!
The audience below fell quiet, raising their light-up signs and glow sticks and swaying them gently.
Melody Monroe gazed at the lights below, feeling it was just as the lyrics described: "A cool summer night’s breeze startles the sleeping fireflies."
She continued to sing softly, not a trace of nervousness left in her.
Listening to Melody Monroe’s song, Raymond Ford’s expression turned rigid.
She had been waiting for Melody’s performance, thinking she wouldn’t be able to pull off anything decent.
’How could Melody Monroe have picked a song like this!’
’And she sang it so well! Not only did she avoid embarrassing herself, she’ll probably gain a whole new wave of fans from this song!’
When the song ended, Melody Monroe waved to the crowd.
The stage lights went out, and in the ensuing darkness, a sudden twinkling emerged, like a field of stars.
"Whoa! It’s so sparkly!"
It was the light from Melody Monroe’s gown!
Hearing the crowd’s gasps, Melody Monroe lifted the hem of her skirt. With her movement, the light refracting off the diamonds made it look as if she were draped in stars, ready to be shaken loose.
Everyone finally understood why this gown was so precious.
What woman wouldn’t want to own a dress like that? What woman could resist such a temptation?
Melody Monroe came backstage, where Rose Shaw greeted her with a smile and a round of applause.
"Excellent. You outdid yourself."
"Really?"
"Of course."
"Then I’m relieved. I didn’t embarrass you, Rose."
Rose Shaw smiled. "The show is almost over. You need to be on stage again soon."
"Okay, I’ll head over now." Melody Monroe started walking toward the stage.
Rose Shaw took a deep breath. ’Evan Fairchild seems dead set on having Melody now, yet she’s still willing to stay by my side instead of going to Starfall.’
’That silly girl... If she went to Starfall, she would never have to put up with the injustices she faces now.’
’Plus, her resources would be a hundred times better than what she has now!’
’Evan Fairchild’s actions are no longer about whether Melody is hoping for too much. He’s forcefully staking his claim!’
’Is this just a man’s possessiveness acting up, or has he genuinely fallen for Melody?’
Rose hoped it was the latter.
She hoped that Melody Monroe could find a happiness of her own.
...
After the event ended, Melody Monroe was guided out of the venue by a staff member.
Evan Fairchild had already texted her that Tommy was waiting for her in the parking garage.
As soon as she entered the parking garage, Melody Monroe spotted Evan Fairchild’s car and immediately walked toward it.
The car was empty. Melody Monroe was a little surprised. "Tommy, where’s Mr. Fairchild?"
"President Fairchild is at the hotel."
"Oh, let’s head back to the hotel then." It suddenly occurred to Melody Monroe that this gown wasn’t exactly suitable for anything else.
Evan Fairchild had been watching the livestream. He was still wearing a bathrobe and hadn’t changed.
Melody Monroe took the key card Tommy gave her. The moment she opened the hotel room door, she was pulled into a searing-hot embrace.
"Y-you... didn’t you say you hadn’t eaten?" Melody Monroe saw that he hadn’t changed and clearly had no intention of going out.
"I did. I was just waiting for my meal to arrive."
Melody Monroe was left speechless.
...
An hour later, a sumptuous late-night supper was delivered to the presidential suite.
