Chapter 211: Waiting to Jump into the Pit
Raymond Ford secretly clenched his fists, hatred churning inside him.
’Rose Shaw has left no room to turn back! Can she really be this heartless?’
’After all, he’d been with Rose Shaw for over a year. Everything was fine before Melody Monroe came along.’
’The moment Melody Monroe showed up, Rose Shaw tossed him aside like a disposable pawn!’
’Isn’t this just driving him to a dead end!’
’Abandoned by Rose Shaw... does he even have a future at Stellaris?’
"Raymond, are you okay?" Rhona Hughes asked quickly.
"I’m fine, Rhona. Thanks for your concern."
"So does that mean it’s true?! Rose Shaw is really that heartless! Raymond, you have so much momentum going for you right now. If she would just get you a few more resources, you’d definitely become a huge star!"
Raymond Ford felt even worse as he listened.
"Even though I have some fame now, I was always the powerless one in my relationship with Rose Shaw. If she says she doesn’t want me anymore, that’s it. What can I possibly do?"
Hearing what sounded like a sob over the phone, Rhona Hughes said quickly, "Raymond, I know how you feel. I’m telling you, this is all because of Melody Monroe! Before, Rose Shaw treated you well enough, but that’s only because you hadn’t clashed with Melody. See? The second you have a small conflict with her, Rose Shaw throws you into the doghouse!"
"Do you see it now? Melody Monroe is the apple of Rose Shaw’s eye. Just think about it—Rose Shaw already has so much status at Stellaris, yet she still fawns all over Melody. Who do you think is the person backing her?"
"Are you saying... all those rumors are true? That Melody Monroe is really President Sterling’s...?"
"Is there any doubt? By the way, I have another piece of news for you!"
"What is it?"
"President Sterling is married!"
"What?" Raymond Ford was stunned. "Who did President Sterling marry? When did this happen? Why haven’t we heard anything about it?"
"I only found out because I’m always hanging around the office with nothing better to do. President Sterling married the Sheffield family’s precious daughter, Lana Sheffield. She was engaged to the Rockwell family’s second son, but she fell for President Sterling and swore she wouldn’t marry anyone else. The Sheffields had no choice but to cancel the engagement with the Rockwells. However, the Sheffield family demanded there be no wedding, afraid it would embarrass the Rockwells and cause them to lose face. So, President Sterling and Lana Sheffield just went and got their marriage license. No reception, no ceremony, nothing."
Raymond Ford hadn’t expected something this major had occurred.
"And I heard Lana Sheffield is already pregnant!" Rhona Hughes’s voice sounded again over the phone.
To Raymond Ford, each piece of information was more of a bombshell than the last.
"If that’s the case, wouldn’t that make Melody Monroe the other woman?" Raymond Ford asked, testing the waters.
’For Rhona Hughes to know all these details, this couldn’t be simple gossip.’
"’The other woman’ would be putting it nicely. She’s lower than that! I saw Lana Sheffield at the company the other day, and her presence is really intense. I’ve always heard the Sheffields spoiled her rotten, that she’s unbelievably arrogant. What do you think she’d do if she found out about Melody Monroe’s relationship with President Sterling?"
"Is there any woman who could tolerate that?"
"Of course not!"
"Rhona, you absolutely must not spread this around! Be careful not to offend President Sterling!"
"What’s there for me to be afraid of? What wouldn’t I dare do now?"
A faint smile touched Raymond Ford’s lips. He had been waiting for Rhona Hughes to fall into this very trap.
"Raymond, don’t be too sad. Try not to take this thing with Rose Shaw to heart. Maybe leaving her will actually be for the best!"
"Rhona, you’re too good to me. At a time like this, you’re the only person who would call to comfort me, the only one thinking of me. Having a good friend like you is a blessing I must have earned in a past life."
