"You didn’t bring your things over?" Evan Fairchild noticed that almost everything belonged to Ian; she only had a single suitcase.

"I don’t need to. The suitcase just has some of my daily necessities," Melody Monroe explained hurriedly.

When Tommy had addressed her like that just now, Evan Fairchild hadn’t seemed to react at all.

’Please don’t let him get the wrong idea,’ she thought frantically. ’I’m not trying to imply anything!’

"Ma’am, where should I put these? I can help you carry them," Tommy asked again.

Melody Monroe: ...

"Give them to Auntie Lana," Evan Fairchild answered for her.

Melody Monroe lowered her head and took a deep breath. ’That Tommy is going to be the death of me! I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to explain things clearly to Evan Fairchild.’

"I’ll unpack myself. Really, it’s no trouble," Melody Monroe insisted, unable to stand the thought of having other people do everything for her.

Besides, she wasn’t the lady of the house. She couldn’t just accept the treatment of one as if it were her right.

"Ian, want to come with Mommy?"

"Mhm!" Ian Monroe nodded happily.

Melody Monroe picked up the suitcase with one hand, slung another bag over her shoulder, and hurried toward the second floor under everyone’s watchful eyes.

Tommy stared at the scene, his mouth hanging open in a daze.

’That stuff is heavy, but Ma’am just hoisted it all up and left.’

Evan Fairchild watched Melody Monroe’s retreating back, with Ian Monroe right beside her helping his mom steady the suitcase.

The sight made him understand why Ian Monroe felt he didn’t need a father.

The weight was nothing to Melody Monroe.

Every year, when she headed back to school after her summer job, she had to carry things that were even heavier than this.

Even though she was over twenty pounds lighter than she used to be, she still had her old strength.

Once she got everything to the room, Melody Monroe first opened the bag with Ian’s things.

Inside were all the new clothes and other items she had bought for him.

’Even though Ian wants for nothing here, and the things Evan Fairchild prepared are far better than what I bought, these are things I got for him myself. I can’t bring myself to just toss them.’

"My bunny pajamas!" Ian Monroe exclaimed, happily hugging the garment.

"Now you have your bunny pajamas to wear tonight."

"Mhm!"

"Ian, can you help Mommy put these on hangers? Then Mommy will hang them in the closet for you."

"Mhm!" Ian immediately sat down on the floor, picked up the hangers, and started putting the clothes on them.

Evan Fairchild stood outside the door, watching the capable mother-son duo.

’Melody Monroe is completely changing my perception of women,’ he thought.

Watching the two of them bustle about, Evan Fairchild was struck by a feeling.

’Even though they’re so close, even though I’ve brought them here to be by my side, it still feels like we’re living in two separate worlds.’

’What do I have to do to enter their world?’

After putting away Ian’s clothes, Melody Monroe set her own suitcase aside, then picked Ian up and placed him on the bed.

"Sweetheart, Mommy has to go back to Jansburg for work tomorrow. I’ve been away from the film set for several days now, so I can’t put it off any longer. Ian, you be a good boy and go to school, and while Mommy’s away, you have to listen to Mr. Fairchild, okay?"

"No! Ian only listens to Mommy. I’ll be good. I won’t make trouble or run off. I’ll just wait here for Mommy."

Melody’s heart warmed. She stroked Ian Monroe’s small face. "Mommy has something to tell you."

"What is it?"

"Actually... Mr. Fairchild is your..."

"Mommy! I have something to show you!" Ian Monroe cut Melody off, turning to pull a box out of a cabinet.
