Chapter 166: Does My Name Burn Your Tongue?

Melody wanted to tell Ian that Evan Fairchild was his father.

But for some reason, the boy suddenly had another thought and cut her off.

Ian ran over to Melody, holding a box.

"What’s this?"

"A piggy bank!" Ian opened the box. "On my way back from kindergarten today, I had Auntie Claire Walsh take me to buy it. I used my own money."

Melody looked at the little piggy bank, wondering why Ian would buy such a thing.

"Ian’s going to save up lots of money to help Mommy buy a big house!"

Melody couldn’t help but smile, ruffling Ian’s hair. "Okay! You can do it, sweetie! But where did you get the money?"

"Yeah! Auntie Claire Walsh said Mr. Fairchild gives me 10,000 a month for allowance! I’m going to save all of it."

Melody was stunned. ’Evan Fairchild is giving Ian 10,000 for allowance? 10,000 a month?’

’Even if that amount was nothing to Evan Fairchild, Ian was just a child. He had no use for that much money!’

Hearing his son’s words, Evan Fairchild thought to himself, ’Since he’s saving the money for his mom, is 10,000 a month too little?!’

After Melody finished tidying up, she took Ian by the hand and headed out of the room.

She saw Evan Fairchild by the stairs.

"Mr... Mr. Fairchild," Melody called out.

Evan Fairchild turned to look at Melody. "Does my name burn your tongue? You keep stuttering ’Fair... Fair...’" He’d told her not to call him President Fairchild, only for her to start calling him Mr. Fairchild instead.

"That’s not what I meant!" Melody said, quickly trying to explain.

"Are you done?"

"Yes, I’m done."

"From now on, let Auntie Lana handle things like this."

"I’m used to tidying up after myself, really. It’s no trouble. Mr. Fairchild, about what Tommy said earlier... he might have gotten the wrong idea. I already explained it to him, so please don’t get the wrong impression."

"There’s no misunderstanding," Evan Fairchild said before heading downstairs.

Watching his back, Melody let out a quiet sigh of relief.

’Maybe Evan Fairchild is easier to talk to than I thought?’

...

After dinner, Evan Fairchild went to his study to work.

Melody read with Ian for a while, then they both took baths and changed into matching pajamas.

She couldn’t resist grabbing her phone to take a few pictures.

"Little bunny, ears up!"

Ian grabbed the ears on his pajama hood, patiently striking all sorts of poses for his mom’s camera.

"Mommy, let’s play a game!"

"What game should we play?"

"Big bunny chases little bunny!"

"Okay!" Melody agreed without a second thought.

She was leaving for Jansburg tomorrow and wouldn’t be back for at least a month. How could she bear to say no?

"Okay, Mommy, you chase me! If you catch me, I lose! Then it’ll be my turn to chase you!"

"Alright! Run, little bunny, here I come!"

Ian suddenly dashed forward, and Melody quickly gave chase.

The two of them ran in circles around the spacious bedroom.

Melody chased him for three laps and still couldn’t catch him.

"The little bunny is too clever and fast! Mommy bunny can’t catch you!" Melody playfully collapsed onto the floor.

Sure enough, Ian ran over to her. "Mommy, I’m easy to catch! You can get me right away!"

Melody suddenly sprang up and wrapped Ian in a hug. "Gotcha!"

They tumbled to the floor together, both bursting into laughter.

"My turn to catch Mommy!"

"Let’s rest for a second. Mommy’s a little tired."

"Okay!"

While Ian wasn’t looking, Melody quickly scrambled to her feet. "Can’t catch me!"

Ian immediately scrambled up and chased after his mom.

When Evan Fairchild pushed open the door, he was greeted by the sight of the mother and son, dressed in matching snow-white cartoon pajamas, happily chasing each other...
