"Sweetie, I can’t run anymore!"

"Mommy, I’m gonna get you!"

Melody Monroe spun around and was startled to see Evan Fairchild standing in the doorway!

She stopped short, but her foot slipped, and she stumbled forward uncontrollably!

"Mommy!" Ian Monroe cried out in alarm.

Evan Fairchild also rushed toward Melody Monroe.

But he was too far away. Just as he reached her, Melody Monroe fell right at his feet!

Ian Monroe hurried over to help his mother up, complaining to Evan Fairchild, "This is all your fault!"

Melody Monroe scrambled to her feet, flustered. Thankfully, the floor was carpeted, so the fall hadn’t hurt much.

"Mr. Fairchild, were we being too loud? Did we disturb you?" Melody Monroe asked quickly, holding her lower back.

"Are you all right?" Evan Fairchild asked with concern.

"I’m fine, I’m fine!" Melody Monroe said, shaking her head quickly.

Ian Monroe, however, glared indignantly at the man who had appeared so suddenly. "Mr. Fairchild, didn’t you tell me you’re supposed to knock before entering someone’s room?"

Evan Fairchild was taken aback.

"You also taught me, Mr. Fairchild, that you don’t just knock. You have to wait for permission before you can come in."

Evan Fairchild took a deep breath. ’This little brat! I just lectured him about this, and he’s already using it against me.’

Evan Fairchild turned, walked out, and closed the door. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"May I come in?"

"No!" Ian Monroe suddenly ran over and bolted the door shut.

Hearing the decisive click of the lock, Evan Fairchild’s expression darkened instantly!

"Ian, you can’t do that." Melody Monroe immediately went over and unlocked the door, only to find the hallway empty!

’Did Evan Fairchild leave?’

She quickly turned back to Ian Monroe and said, "Don’t you ever do that again. That was very rude to Mr. Fairchild."

Ian Monroe took his mother’s hand and led her to the sofa by the bed. "Mommy, how was I being rude? That’s exactly what Mr. Fairchild taught me."

Melody Monroe was speechless.

"Just because Mr. Fairchild knocks, does that mean I have to agree to let him in?"

"What if Mr. Fairchild needed something?"

"But he left, didn’t he? That proves it wasn’t important." Ian Monroe said, his anger flaring up again as he looked at his mother’s reddened palms from her fall.

’If Mr. Fairchild hadn’t appeared out of nowhere, Mommy never would have fallen!’

’They were having so much fun. Why did Mr. Fairchild have to show up?!’

"Mommy, does it hurt? Should I blow on it for you?"

"It doesn’t hurt, sweetie. But from now on, don’t just lock Mr. Fairchild out like that, okay?"

"Mommy, you told me I shouldn’t lie, that I have to be an honest boy, right?"

"That’s right, no lying," Melody Monroe agreed, nodding gravely.

"But if I let Mr. Fairchild in, I would have been lying. I really didn’t want him to come in."

Melody Monroe was speechless.

’She couldn’t even win an argument with a child. Ian had actually left her speechless with his logic.’

"Mommy, since I was such an honest boy, shouldn’t I get a reward?"

"And what reward would you like?"

"Tomorrow morning, can you take me to kindergarten?"

"Of course!" Melody Monroe agreed.

’If I drop Ian off at seven tomorrow morning, I can head straight to the airport. The timing is perfect.’

"Thank you, Mommy." Ian Monroe wrapped his arms around his mother’s neck and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"All right, it’s getting late. We should get to bed."

"Okay!" Ian Monroe immediately climbed onto the bed and patted the spot beside him. "Mommy, come sleep here!"
