Chapter 218: It Can’t Be Fake, Can It?
Raymond Ford stepped out from the crowd and looked at Melody Monroe with a derisive smile. "Angel’s Tears? Don’t make me laugh. You received a gift like this? Melody Monroe, give me a break. If you’re going to generate buzz, at least have some common sense, will you?"
Suddenly, a group of paparazzi swarmed the area, their cameras flashing wildly at the scene.
"Is that really Angel’s Tears? I thought Angel’s Tears was in a museum in Britain."
"That diamond isn’t just priceless, it’s a symbol of status and power. Countless women dream of it. It’s not likely it would end up in Melody Monroe’s hands, is it?"
"Yeah, this seems really fake!"
"Could the diamond really be a fake? It doesn’t look like one, though."
"Aren’t there rumors that Melody Monroe is involved with President Sterling from Stellaris? What if he’s the one who sent it?"
"I doubt even President Sterling could afford a gift like this."
Instantly, a buzz of discussion rose from the crowd.
Jasper Rockwell turned his head and realized that Zane Langdon, who had been standing beside him, was gone.
He was deeply worried about Melody Monroe. ’Who on earth sent this? Is it even real? Then again, if Evan Fairchild were the one to produce it, I’d believe it. His influence abroad is even greater than it is at home. The most important thing now is to figure out who the sender is, or Melody is going to get dragged through the mud again. And with so many reporters here now... this is going to be difficult to handle. It has to be Raymond Ford stirring up trouble again. She must have called them.’
"Who sent this gift?" Jasper Rockwell asked, walking up to Melody Monroe’s side.
"That depends on whether Miss Monroe is willing to reveal the gentleman’s identity."
Raymond Ford let out a scornful laugh. "How much are they paying you a day to act in this little play? You’re all so committed to your roles, aren’t you?"
"Miss, what are you talking about? I don’t understand."
"’You don’t understand?’ I see you’re all just playing dumb, and doing a damn good job of it!" With that, Raymond Ford strode forward to grab the diamond necklace.
’I’m going to expose Melody Monroe’s little trick in front of everyone!’
’Filming is about to wrap for me. Isn’t this the perfect time for some publicity? This little ploy? It’s child’s play, something I grew out of long ago!’
Just as Raymond Ford’s hand was about to touch the necklace, two tall men shot out from nowhere and slammed her to the ground!
"AH!" Raymond Ford cried out.
Her face was ground into the floor, her shoulders pinned so tightly she couldn’t move an inch.
Before she could even process what had happened, several more men in camouflage uniforms appeared around her, each holding a rifle and pointing it at her!
The scene left everyone in the vicinity completely stunned.
Melody Monroe was also startled. She held her breath, staring at the men who had appeared beside her.
’She was so close, she could tell they were real guns!’
"Miss Monroe, please don’t be alarmed. These men are personnel from the armored transport company responsible for this delivery," the staffer from before explained to Melody Monroe.
Seeing the display before him, Jasper Rockwell was instantly convinced that the necklace was real.
’But who could have sent it?’
’Could Melody’s charm be so overwhelming that some crazy, mega-rich fan sent it?’
’He was really wearing out his heart with worry for Fairchild!’
The paparazzi who had just been frenziedly photographing Melody Monroe immediately turned their cameras on Raymond Ford. As word got out, more and more people began to rush over.
A scene like this left no one daring to question the necklace’s authenticity.
Who would go to such lengths for a lie?
Angel’s Tears. There’s only one in the world. Who could possibly fake it?
