Chapter 217: Such a Convincing Performance
Staring at the enormous gift, Melody Monroe was truly at a loss when it came to Evan Fairchild’s way of thinking.
’What was he thinking? Did he get such a huge rose bear just for her to look at once?’
’How was she supposed to take it with her? And if it was just for a glance, what a waste that would be!’
"Look, there seems to be a gift box in the rose bear’s hands," someone pointed out.
"You’re right!" The others saw it too.
Melody Monroe had been so preoccupied with the shame of not being able to take all the roses that she hadn’t noticed what the bear was holding.
Only after someone pointed it out did she finally see it.
"Miss Monroe, this is the actual gift for you." The man who had just gotten Melody Monroe’s signature stepped forward, gesturing for her to take the gift box.
Melody Monroe glanced at the people beside her, and they all smiled at her when their eyes met.
’What kind of gift is this? Why did so many people come to deliver it? It’s all so formal.’
She grew more and more flustered.
"Miss Monroe, why don’t you open it and see?" The man seemed even more eager than Melody Monroe.
Only then did Melody Monroe open the gift box. Inside was an ice-blue diamond necklace, its brilliance so dazzling it was almost blinding.
"Whoa! Such a huge diamond! This is the first time I’ve ever seen one like this!"
"My god, it’s so sparkly! I’ve never seen anything like it either!"
"How many carats do you think that is?"
Gasps of amazement rose one after another.
Melody Monroe’s hands were trembling as she held the precious object.
She no longer knew how to manage her expression. ’This isn’t a surprise anymore, it’s a scare!’
Zane Langdon witnessed this scene, glanced at the bouquet of flowers in Jasper Rockwell’s hands, and silently turned to leave.
This diamond was even larger than the six pigeon-egg-sized diamonds she had seen on rings in the walk-in closet of Evan Fairchild’s villa!
"That necklace looks like the Angel’s Tears!" someone holding a phone shouted.
The picture on the phone was a perfect match for the one in Melody Monroe’s hands.
The people nearby immediately crowded around her, reading the description on the phone.
"This diamond was mined in the eighteenth century and was once set in a queen’s crown for her coronation. Because the queen and her husband shared an unwavering love, it was also called the ’Stone of Love.’ Afterward, every woman who came to possess this diamond found an enviably blissful love! This diamond is priceless; it’s not something you can get just by having money! Oh my god, I’m going to suffocate!"
Melody Monroe held the necklace, her palms sweating. She looked toward the man who delivered the gift, and he nodded at her with a smile.
’So this means... what she was holding was the Angel’s Tears!’
"Miss Monroe, this diamond necklace is no longer called Angel’s Tears. The gentleman who sent it has renamed it: the Eternal Heart."
’Eternal Heart!’
’Was this Evan Fairchild’s way of confessing his feelings?’
Melody Monroe felt like she was about to suffocate.
’With a move like this, was Evan Fairchild trying to force her to bet everything she had, with no chance of recovery?!’ Her heart was racing, her blood was boiling, and she felt as if she might collapse from the sheer intensity of it all.
"Miss Monroe, we can hold onto this Eternal Heart for you for now. You can come retrieve it whenever it’s convenient. Please rest assured, our company is more than capable of keeping this diamond safe."
Of course, Melody Monroe didn’t dare carry something so valuable with her. Since Evan Fairchild had entrusted them to deliver this gift, they must be trustworthy.
"Then I’ll entrust it to your care."
"What a convincing performance!" a voice suddenly cut in.
