Chapter 86: I Really Want to Slap Myself
"Did you tell Mr. Langdon it was me playing with you guys?" Melody Monroe asked Jasper Rockwell.
Jasper Rockwell shook his head. "I didn’t!"
Melody Monroe was full of questions.
’How on earth did Zane Langdon figure out it was her?’
Before Zane Langdon could walk over, she quickly looted all the equipment and used everything she could.
Looking at her game character now, she thought, ’This must be what getting rich overnight feels like.’
When Melody Monroe looked up again, Zane Langdon was already standing in front of her. She immediately stood up. "Mr. Langdon, please have a seat."
"You stay seated. I’ll move over here to rest."
Just then, Zane Langdon’s assistant, Nola Hughes, came running over, carrying the lounge chair Zane Langdon had just been sitting in.
After Zane Langdon sat down, Melody Monroe returned to her own chair.
"The cross-server battle is in an hour. Are you in?" Zane Langdon asked the two of them.
"We’re in!"
Melody Monroe and Jasper Rockwell responded in unison.
"Let me see your gear," Zane Langdon said to Melody Monroe.
Melody Monroe quickly handed her phone to Zane Langdon.
Zane Langdon skillfully navigated the interface, continuously sending items to Melody Monroe.
Melody Monroe watched his long, slender fingers tapping on the screen. ’Even a simple, ordinary scene like this is so mesmerizing!’
"There." Zane Langdon handed the phone back to Melody Monroe. "I’ve also taken you on as my apprentice. This way, you’ll level up faster. We can dissolve the master-apprentice relationship later."
"That’s great! Thank you, Mr. Langdon!" Melody Monroe opened her character profile and her jaw dropped in surprise. Zane Langdon had upgraded her gear too. Her previous Soul Level set was already impressive, but now she had a full Divine Level set!
"This... This is..."
"Consider it a gift for becoming my apprentice."
"Thank you, Mr. Langdon!" Melody Monroe didn’t play coy and thanked him right away.
Jasper Rockwell, chewing on the stick from the lollipop he’d just finished, watched them. "Have you two considered my feelings at all? Becoming master and apprentice so quickly? Why not just get married while you’re at it!"
"Is there a quest bonus for that?" Melody Monroe immediately asked Zane Langdon.
Jasper Rockwell: ...
"You get access to exclusive dungeons and double XP from grinding mobs," Zane Langdon replied.
Jasper Rockwell: ...
’I really want to slap myself!’
Melody Monroe still didn’t have the nerve. Even though it was just a game, she felt like she was taking advantage of her idol.
"Master and apprentice is good enough," Melody Monroe said with a smile at Zane Langdon. "From now on, I have a pro master to carry me."
"Then let’s get the dailies done first." Zane Langdon glanced at Melody Monroe’s phone. "I’ll go pick up the quests. Wait for my party invite."
"Okay." Melody Monroe nodded at once.
"What about me?!" Jasper Rockwell felt like the world was full of malice.
"Do whatever you want. You’re a P2W whale; you don’t even need to do quests," Melody Monroe retorted. Seeing the invite on her phone, she tapped it immediately. "Mr. Langdon, I’m in."
"Okay, hold on. I’m changing my gear."
Then, Jasper Rockwell saw Zane Langdon switch to a limited-edition skin!
’Holy crap! It’s blinding!’
’That was a set he couldn’t get even by throwing money at the game!’
And then he saw the mount—the only one on the entire server. The lollipop stick in his mouth—dropped!
"Whoa! That gear is so cool!" Melody Monroe exclaimed sincerely.
"With your skills, you’ll have all this eventually." Zane Langdon’s voice was gentle, like a flowing stream—utterly soothing.
Melody Monroe realized she was developing a serious case of hero worship for Zane Langdon. Now that they were partied up, Zane Langdon took her directly to the master-apprentice quest NPC. ’This is it,’ she thought, ’hitching a ride on a pro’s coattails and getting carried all the way to an easy win.’
The scene on Jasper Rockwell’s phone suddenly grew quiet. He was standing there all alone.
