Chapter 155: A Reliable Dad
"President Fairchild, Ian isn’t very familiar with this place. He’ll get used to it slowly. Please let me stay with him for tonight, alright?"
Evan Fairchild’s expression immediately softened at the sound of her gentle voice.
"He can sleep by himself tomorrow."
"I’ll take Ian to get some rest now." Melody Monroe stood up, pulling Ian with her.
Claire Walsh immediately led the way.
Melody Monroe held Ian’s hand as they walked up to the second floor.
"This is Master Hale’s room, and this one over here is your room, Miss Monroe. Please let me know if you need anything else, and I’ll go prepare it."
"Okay." Melody Monroe nodded.
"I won’t disturb you any further, then."
Melody Monroe led Ian into the room by the hand.
’The room was huge, bigger than their entire rented apartment combined.’
The blue color scheme was cheerful. The room was carpeted, with a large floor-to-ceiling window on the left and a walk-in closet and bathroom on the right.
"Do you like it here, Ian?" Melody Monroe asked, crouching down to face him.
Ian Monroe shook his head. "Ian likes being with Mommy. Mommy won’t leave Ian, right?"
"Of course not. Ian is Mommy’s treasure. How could Mommy ever leave you?"
Hearing his mother’s answer, Ian Monroe felt a little more at ease.
"Let’s go take a bath first, okay?"
"Mhm."
Melody Monroe opened the closet, and her mouth fell open in surprise at the sight of it, filled to the brim with clothes. She took out a few pieces to look at them. They were all in Ian’s size!
’Did Evan Fairchild have someone prepare all this?’
’Looks like he isn’t such an unreliable father after all. Even though he’s childish enough to bicker with Ian, he secretly arranged everything perfectly. To think he’d even prepare all this for Ian.’
’They had left in such a hurry today. She had been thinking they would just have to make do for the night and that she’d go get Ian’s things tomorrow when she had time. But now, it seemed that wouldn’t be necessary at all.’
The bathroom was spacious, with a large, round bathtub. Melody Monroe filled it with water and lifted Ian into it.
There were also some small bath toys on the side. Melody Monroe picked them up and put them in the water to play with Ian.
"Ian, Ian, hello! I’m a little yellow ducky! Look how fast I can swim!"
Watching the little yellow ducks bobbing in the water, the tense expression on Ian Monroe’s face finally gave way to a hint of a smile.
"Here! Take this one." Melody Monroe handed one to Ian.
As Ian took it, the duckling’s beak suddenly squirted a stream of water onto his face.
"Hahahaha, did that scare you!" Melody Monroe couldn’t help but laugh at Ian’s adorable expression.
Seeing his mother laugh, Ian’s smile grew even brighter.
Evan Fairchild stood outside the door. Hearing the laughter from within, the corners of his lips slowly curved upward.
He was about to push the door open and go in, but he stopped himself.
’If he went in, this beautiful scene would surely come to an abrupt halt.’
...
After his bath, Melody Monroe sat Ian on a stool.
Ian was wrapped in a bathrobe, still clutching a little yellow duck. Under the warm yellow light, the cherubic little boy looked so soft and delicate.
Melody Monroe took out a hairdryer and began to dry Ian’s hair.
"Mommy, how long are we going to live here?" Ian tilted his head up, his big eyes shimmering with a captivating light.
Melody Monroe was stumped by the question. She opened her mouth to speak, then hesitated, not answering directly.
’She needed to think carefully about how to answer.’
’Ian was a reserved child and didn’t often express his feelings. Aside from how he acted like he and Evan Fairchild were mortal enemies upon meeting today, she had never seen Ian show such strong emotions.’
’Ian seemed to have only just started to relax. If she said the wrong thing, she was afraid it would just weigh on his mind again.’
