Chapter 240: Utterly Deranged
"Have you made a decision about the renovations for the Jansburg house?" Evan Fairchild asked suddenly.
The question jogged Melody Monroe’s memory. "Hang on a second." She turned, walked back into the house, and came out with a file she had put together.
She’d spoken with a few renovation companies and gathered some information, but she hadn’t made up her mind, preferring to wait for Evan Fairchild to make the final call.
Evan Fairchild sat on the sofa, flipping through the materials as his brow furrowed.
’Why are there so many options?’
"Which style do you like best?" he asked Melody Monroe.
"I think, since it’s your house, it should be decorated to your liking. If you don’t like any of these styles, we can look at others. I have the companies’ contact info, so I can ask them to send more proposals whenever."
"You probably like this one the best, right?" Evan Fairchild said, pointing to one of the designs.
Melody Monroe glanced at it, a little surprised. ’How did he know this was her favorite?’
It was a modern take on a classic Chinese design, exceptionally elegant with a quaint, antique feel.
Her last visit to the private kitchen’s estate had made her realize she was drawn to that kind of classical serenity—a grand, yet fresh and refined, aesthetic. This was, without a doubt, her favorite.
Even though it was a traditional Chinese design that used solid wood, it didn’t feel heavy at all; it was actually quite stylish.
Watching her expression, Evan Fairchild set the materials aside. "Let’s go with this one."
"Do you like this one too?"
Evan Fairchild nodded. "Tommy is still in Jansburg. I’ll have him oversee it and get the renovations done as soon as possible."
"I’ll contact Tommy, then."
"Let’s have dinner together tonight. How about we take Ian to a movie?"
Ian: ...
’Mr. Fairchild is completely out of his mind!’
He quickly looked up at his mom, opening his mouth to say something before stopping himself.
Melody Monroe thought about it. It was true she had never taken Ian to a movie. She looked over at Ian, and just as she was about to speak, Evan Fairchild’s voice cut in.
"Don’t worry, I’ll book the whole theater."
"Ian, do you want to go to the movies?" Melody Monroe asked him.
Evan Fairchild’s gaze also landed on Ian.
Faced with both of their stares, Ian, though extremely reluctant, slowly nodded.
Evan Fairchild picked up his phone and made a call. "A private VIP booking at Starlight Cinema. Nine-thirty tonight."
He had just hung up when Melody Monroe asked hesitantly, "Nine-thirty... isn’t that a little late? Ian is usually asleep by then."
"He doesn’t have school tomorrow. And it’ll be less crowded later."
Melody Monroe didn’t argue.
’But something feels off.’
Ian looked at Evan Fairchild, the corner of his mouth curling into a faint smirk. ’Booking the whole theater but worried about the crowds? Hmph! Using me as an excuse... Mr. Fairchild is so shameless!’
"So, what does your work schedule look like?" Evan Fairchild asked.
"I just have these next two days off. After that, things are going to get busy."
"That busy? You’re not planning to make time to get your driver’s license?"
"I’m afraid I won’t be able to find the time. Getting a license seems like such a hassle." Melody had never tried, but it seemed like more than half of her college classmates already had theirs. Others were either taking lessons or planning to.
’Can’t find the time? You’ll have time soon enough,’ Evan Fairchild thought to himself.
"There are still some groceries left. How about we just cook something ourselves tonight?" Melody Monroe asked softly.
Evan Fairchild had intended for them to eat out.
’Cooking two meals in one day... won’t she be tired?’
But when he remembered the taste of her food, he no longer wanted to go anywhere else.
"Okay."
