Chapter 232: This Is How You Solved It?
"Tell me who hit you. Don’t be afraid. I’ll handle this."
"I’ve already handled it."
Evan Fairchild walked into the living room, sat on the sofa, and made a phone call.
Two minutes later, his phone rang again.
Evan Fairchild intentionally put the call on speaker. Melody Monroe listened to the report on the phone—it was an exact, word-for-word account of what had happened that afternoon!
After hanging up, Evan Fairchild looked at Melody Monroe. "This is what you call ’handled’?"
"I..." Melody Monroe stood before him like a child who had done something wrong.
"Why didn’t you come back? Ian Monroe and I were both waiting for you. Was it because you didn’t want him to see you like this? But why didn’t you contact me?" Evan Fairchild’s tone was tinged with anger again.
’This woman is trying to drive me insane!’
Before Melody Monroe could say a word, Evan Fairchild’s voice rang out again. "You’re terminating your contract with Stellaris tomorrow!"
"No!" Melody Monroe immediately shook her head.
"You still can’t bear to terminate your contract with Stellaris! What is it about Stellaris that makes you so reluctant to leave!"
"Mr. Fairchild, this is my own business."
Evan Fairchild suddenly stood up. Melody Monroe took a step back, bumping into the purse she had left on the TV stand. The purse fell off the stand, its contents scattering all over the floor.
Evan Fairchild’s eyes fell on a handkerchief on the floor. He walked over and picked it up.
The object seemed somewhat familiar to him.
He had met Christopher Sterling once, and the memory was a vivid one.
"Is this Christopher Sterling’s?"
Melody Monroe looked at the handkerchief and suddenly found Evan Fairchild’s gaze terrifying.
"Is it or isn’t it!" Evan Fairchild demanded loudly.
"Yes!" Melody Monroe nodded. ’I was going to throw it away, but then I forgot and ended up bringing it back in my purse.’
"So this is why you don’t want to leave Stellaris?"
Melody Monroe looked at Evan Fairchild, and it finally dawned on her. ’He’s misunderstood my relationship with Christopher Sterling!’
Evan Fairchild threw the handkerchief to the ground and turned to leave.
Hearing the heavy slam of the door, Melody Monroe flinched.
A minute later, Melody Monroe suddenly ran out after him. By the time the elevator arrived and she got downstairs, she couldn’t find any sign of Evan Fairchild.
Staring up at the boundless night sky, she took a deep breath. Tears welled in her eyes, but she tilted her head back, forcing them down.
’What good would it do if I caught up to him?’
’What good would it do even if I explained everything clearly?’
’It might be better this way...’
’Let him misunderstand.’
’That way, our relationship won’t spiral further out of control.’
Melody Monroe went back upstairs, only to find the door locked! ’I must have been in such a hurry to chase after him that the wind blew the door shut!’
She quickly felt her pockets. Thankfully, her phone was still there.
’The landlord should have a spare key. The only question is whether they’re in Rockwellburg.’
But she had no other choice. She could only try.
Evan Fairchild had just driven away when his phone rang. The ringtone was different from the usual one. He immediately took out his phone and saw that, sure enough, the call was from Melody Monroe.
The anger in his heart instantly subsided a little.
But then he had another thought. Melody Monroe had no idea this number was his, and she had even thrown away the number he’d given her before.
These days, they only contacted each other through WeChat.
Melody Monroe waited anxiously. Just when she thought the other person wasn’t going to pick up, the call suddenly connected.
"Hello, I’m your tenant, the one from Golden Garden."
"Mm."
A deep, low response came from the phone.
