In truth, Rose Shaw wasn’t short on admirers, but her heart had already died because of Christopher Sterling.

Rose Shaw pulled away from Melody Monroe’s embrace and went to the bathroom to wash her face. By the time she came back out, she had already composed herself.

Aside from her red, swollen eyes, which were impossible to hide, her demeanor was no different from usual.

Rose Shaw sat down across from Melody Monroe, pulled out another cigarette, and lit it.

"I’ll never fall in love with anyone else."

Melody Monroe froze.

’She could feel it—the sheer depth of Rose’s feelings for Christopher Sterling. How could a love that profound ever be transferred to someone else?’

’Until the day she died, Rose was still hoping that the man she loved would give her just one more glance!’

’In the original novel, Lana Sheffield was the one who caused Rose Shaw’s death.’

’Because Christopher Sterling did end up getting involved with Rose Shaw, and there was no way Rose could ever refuse him!’

’How could Lana Sheffield possibly tolerate Rose Shaw?’

’And yet, the ending was a "happily ever after" for everyone else.’

’The original novel’s heroine—Rose Shaw’s only relative—forgave the person who caused her death.’

’Christopher Sterling forgave Lana Sheffield, too.’

Rose Shaw’s fate was a tragic one. The more Melody Monroe thought about it, the more her heart ached.

"Rose, no matter what happens, your life is your own. You have to live for yourself," Melody Monroe urged gently.

"My life was over a long time ago. Now, I’m just a walking corpse. With him, I felt alive, like I had fresh blood in my veins. Without him, I don’t even know who I am anymore."

Melody Monroe opened her mouth, but no words came out.

"Come on, Rose. I’ll drink with you. Let’s not go home until we’re drunk," Melody Monroe said, raising her glass.

"You? You want to drink me under the table? Save it. You know you’ll have an allergic reaction before you’ve even had that much!"

Melody Monroe looked a bit awkward. "It’s not that bad, is it? You’re exaggerating!"

Rose Shaw smiled, raising her own bottle to tap against the one in Melody’s hand. "I’m feeling much better already. I’ll drink my way, you just pace yourself."

"Alright." Melody Monroe lifted the bottle and took a swig.

...

Tommy organized the documents and placed them on Evan Fairchild’s desk.

"President Fairchild, here is the acquisition contract for Bloomwell, along with internal files on the company. The director of Bloomwell Corporation, Eve Scott, is waiting outside. Would you like to see her?"

"Send her in."

"Yes."

Eve Scott, the executive director of Bloomwell, held thirty percent of the company’s shares. The remaining sixty percent was now in Evan Fairchild’s hands, while the last ten percent was spread out among smaller shareholders.

Eve Scott had single-handedly founded Bloomwell over thirty years ago. The company’s body washes and shampoos were top-tier brands that had even broken into the international market and were being exported overseas.

However, a lack of familiarity with overseas markets had led to funding issues, which was why Eve Scott had signed the acquisition agreement.

Currently, Bloomwell’s products with the best market feedback were in the shampoo and hair care category.

Tommy led Eve Scott into Evan Fairchild’s office.

’He honestly never understood why President Fairchild wanted to acquire this company! They had never ventured into this industry before!’

Eve Scott’s expression faltered the moment she saw Evan Fairchild.

’Evan Fairchild was so young!’

She had only heard rumors. Evan Fairchild’s age was a mystery—some said he was in his thirties, others claimed he was in his forties.

"Hello, President Fairchild." Eve Scott extended her hand.

"Have a seat." Evan Fairchild pulled something from a drawer and placed it on the desk. "Take a look at this."
