Chapter 74: The Siblings’ Plan
Ye Lingrui nodded.
"Your wife’s condition is mostly stabilized now, and the baby should be able to hold on for a few more weeks after she drank the medicine we just gave her earlier," he continued.
Upon hearing that, Ye Jincheng keenly caught the keywords in his explanation. "Ah Yu still needs more treatment, right? What do I need to do?"
It was already a miracle that there was a possibility he and his wife could save the baby. Even if it was just a gamble, he was willing to take it and do his best.
"We need more herbs in order to strengthen the baby in her stomach. The only way we can get them is from the market..." Ye Lingrui trailed off.
There was no guarantee that the nearest market would also have a pharmacy with a lot of herbs, especially the ones they need.
Ye Jincheng’s heart sank. He already guessed it wouldn’t be easy, but the situation seemed to be quite hopeless now.
Even if they found a pharmacy, they wouldn’t be able to pay for the herbs. He could work but the baby’s condition wouldn’t wait until he earned the money.
"How long can the baby hold on?" He asked seriously, trying to calculate his chance.
Ye Lingrui had calculated it. "Around a little over two weeks. During that duration, she also still needs to take the prescription I will provide later."
"The herbs are quite common and easy to find. I will show you the characteristics of the herbs, Cousin."
Ye Jincheng clenched his fists, and he finally sighed.
"Husband..." Song Yulan called out tiredly. She was already yawning, obviously too sleepy to continue to stay awake. Occasionally, she would also let out a hiss in pain.
He stroked his wife’s hair. "Ah Yu, go to sleep. I will try my hardest for our baby. You have to be strong too..."
Seeing her pained expression, Ye Lingrui offered to give her a safe dose of sleeping powder and Ye Jincheng agreed. He wanted his wife to have a peaceful sleeping time.
"I will call Xiumei and Xiulan to help your wife clean up," Ye Lanxi suddenly said and bolted away after finding a reason to run away from the awkward situation.
He really wasn’t experienced in consoling sad people like Ye Jincheng, so he thought it was better for him to remove himself from the scene for fear that he might say something wrong.
It was hard to control his own mouth sometimes.
While the twins were keeping watch over his wife, Ye Jincheng went to find some paper and ink for Ye Lingrui. The latter wrote the prescription for him.
After inhaling Ye Lingrui’s sleeping powder, Song Yulan breathing became much more steady. Not long after, Xiumei and Xiulan also arrived; they helped Ye Jincheng to change his wife’s dressing.
"Cousin, is there no other way to save the baby besides getting the herbs from the pharmacy?" Ye Jincheng asked in desperation. "Can’t we find them in the forest?"
Ye Lingrui and Ye Lingyue exchanged glances. The former could see the eager look on his twin sister’s face.
"Actually, we have been thinking of something..." Ye Lingrui began. "Cousin, we are planning to go to the nearest market."
"Some herbs your wife needs only grow in certain provinces, so it’s impossible to find all of them alone in the surrounding area." He added.
Ye Jincheng’s eyes widened when he heard his words. "Lingrui, is what you said really true?" His eyebrows knitted together. "But... isn’t the nearest market still requiring a week of journey to arrive there?"
He nodded. "Your wife’s condition is another strong reason why we must go."
Ye Lingyue blinked and before Ye Jincheng could open his mouth, she told him. "Cousin, you don’t need to go with us."
Upon hearing that, Ye Jincheng’s face fell, and he clenched his fists. "But I must go... my wife... perhaps I can get the herbs in another way if it’s not money."
He could work or do errands in the pharmacy.
She tilted her head. "That’s not what we meant. Did you forget that my third brother mentioned we also go there for your wife, Cousin?"
"We will try to find the herbs that she needs," she said in a firm tone.
Ye Jincheng stared at Ye Lingyue, slightly taken aback at how eloquent she had become. For the past week, he had known that she was gradually recovering, but he didn’t expect the improvement to be so fast.
"You just need to focus on taking care of your wife. This is the time when she will need your support the most," Ye Lingrui added from the side.
With the siblings’ persuasion, Ye Jincheng finally nodded, thanking them profusely. He was genuinely touched.
It was the second branch again who immediately came to rescue their small family.
"Shall we move Elder Sister Yulan to a new home," Ye Lingyue reminded him.
He suddenly remembered his plan. "Is it going to hurt Ah Yu if we bring her away?"
The movement might cause her pain.
"We can make a simple stretcher for her," Ye Lingrui immediately thought of a solution.
After that, the siblings prepared to make a temporary stretcher from the wood they had collected before.
"Cousin, you should bring your wife to our second branch’s home first while you prepare for the house you two are going to occupy together," Ye Zhiqiu suggested.
He came over to the first branch’s house following his younger siblings as soon as he heard what happened. Concern was visible all over his face.
Ye Jincheng didn’t want to trouble his second uncle’s family and his cousins. Unfortunately, he had no other choice, so he had to take the offer for the sake of his wife’s wellbeing.
He hadn’t had the time to clean a house yet, and if he randomly occupied one, the dirt in that place might further worsen his wife’s condition.
During the dinner, Ye Lingyue nudged the brave soldier beside her. Ye Lanxi stiffened and glared at her.
Then, he opened his mouth. "Mother, Father, us siblings except Eldest Brother are planning to go to the nearest market."
