Chapter 75: Going to the Market
Ye Zhiqiu’s mouth twitched.
Why are his younger siblings deliberately excluding him? However, upon thinking of the troublesome trio, he suddenly was glad that he wasn’t included.
Because... they would definitely push him out to deal with their parents.
Just look at Ye Lanxi’s constipated expression; he was definitely filled with fear right now.
"Going to the market? Why?" Ye Chengde sent the three of them a scrutinizing look, especially his sons whom he thought had led his daughter astray.
Seeing the look of disapproval on their father’s face, Ye Lanxi let out a sigh and began to explain the reason, making sure it was thorough and made sense.
"... last and the most important reason, my cousin’s wife is in desperate need of medicine right now. We can’t just sit idly by when our relative is in trouble, Father."
Once he finished telling their parents the reason, he glanced at his two siblings who were nodding in agreement but were still keeping quiet.
Shen Jingyi frowned.
She had heard about Song Yulan’s condition and even had inquired with Ye Lingrui about it. Compared to the first branch’s people, naturally she cared about her own biological children more.
They lived in such a barren area that she didn’t doubt that robbery happened every day. If they really went, they would undoubtedly encounter such people.
Even with so many guards, these desperate criminals still dared to try their luck on the exile party before. She couldn’t imagine if it were only three people and all were her children.
"Father, Mother, we have a lot of means to keep ourselves safe..." Ye Lingrui added. "I can make some powder to keep whoever dares to target us to suffer."
Ye Chengde and Shen Jingyi were also aware that their third son possessed some skills. They just didn’t know that if they were related to poison, they were mostly Ye Lingyue’s handiwork.
At this moment, Ye Lingyue also spoke. "We can protect ourselves..."
They turned to her.
The doubt in their eyes was quite apparent as they stared at her, making her feel rather helpless. Indeed, skills like hunting and her agility didn’t equal physical strength.
Seeing Ye Lanxi’s gloating look, she became a little angry and continued. "Father, Mother, I am not as weak as I look. Second Brother has been teaching me a lot of things!"
It was Ye Lanxi’s turn to panic a little. Why did her last sentence sound so ambiguous? If there was anything he could teach her, it wouldn’t be related to good things.
"What did you teach Yue’er?" Ye Chengde scrutinized his second son.
Ye Lanxi gritted his teeth inwardly. "Some martial arts skills for self-defense..."
They didn’t expect Shen Jingyi’s next words. "Can you show us?"
He was taken aback, and then turned to Ye Lingyue worriedly. He had just said it to convince them and didn’t expect them to ask for the proof.
Looking at Ye Lingyue’s thin arms, he didn’t even know whether she could take one of his punches...
Even if he withheld his strength, Shen Jingyi would be able to tell it straight away, but if they didn’t prove it, their parents might not allow them to go to the market.
"Father, Mother, sooner or later, we will need to go to the market to get supplies, why not now? We can help a relative as well," Ye Lingrui said.
Shen Jingyi let out a breath. "Then, Yue’er isn’t allowed to go."
A crack instantly appeared on Ye Lingyue’s face. If she wasn’t allowed to go, how can she stockpile supplies in her storage space?
She suddenly became incredibly anxious. "Mother, I will also go..."
"Yue’er, the road to the next county is dangerous," Shen Jingyi said, eyes full of concern.
"I can protect myself, Mother," she said desperately. Then, her eyes lit up and she turned to Ye Lanxi, whose face suddenly became full of alarm. "Second Brother, let’s show Father and Mother what you have taught me?"
Ye Lanxi’s face stiffened. "Yue’er..."
"Let’s do it!" She grabbed his arm, not letting him utter any words of protest.
The living room was wide enough because they had taken most of the broken furniture out. The small twins liked to eat in their bedroom while Ye Jincheng was taking care of his wife in their room.
Before they started, Ye Lingyue turned to Shen Jingyi first, her eyes flashed with cunning like a mischievous fox.
"Mother, if I have sufficient defense skills, can I go with my Second and Third Brother?" She asked hopefully.
Ye Chengde immediately exposed her. "Isn’t Yue’er also trying to get us to agree to let the three of you go if your Mother agrees? We haven’t talked about this properly yet."
Despite his words, he actually smiled. His daughter seemed to have truly recovered, seeing that she was almost the carbon copy of Ye Lingrui when it comes to tricking them.
Ye Lingyue blinked innocently and coughed, "Father, how can it be..."
In order to help his sister, Ye Lingrui also interrupted them. "Mother has agreed, so let’s start."
Shen Jingyi was a little stumped. She only nodded a little when she suddenly heard her husband’s words, but he actually noticed that little detail.
Of course, they actually didn’t want to let Ye Lanxi hurt their daughter; they just wanted them to give up, and yet, they actually agreed. Shen Jingyi was a little worried, but she promised herself she would interrupt them before something went wrong.
Ye Lingyue nodded and urged Ye Lanxi. "Second Brother, let’s do it. Don’t hold back at all."
There was excitement brimming in her eyes, causing him to send her a deep look.
They both prepared their stance, and Ye Lanxi quickly sent a punch with a quarter of his strength first. To his surprise, she could easily handle it.
Ye Lingyue didn’t evade his punch at all; she actually grabbed his fist and stopped it in the air.
"Second Brother, did you hold back?" She raised her eyebrows.
The siblings ended up going at it for another half an hour. Shen Jingyi had to separate the excited two little wrestling seals before they destroyed the furniture around.
Ye Lingyue could actually take Ye Lanxi’s attacks as his strength increased to seventy percent. Above that, she would already guess the devastation his strength might cause and always evaded it.
However, such a skill meant that she was already quite good at what she was doing.
"When did you teach Yue’er?" Shen Jingyi asked Ye Lanxi in puzzlement. "She is already so good at self-defense. Mother doesn’t know you are such a good teacher."
Ye Lanxi was also a little stumped, because he actually never taught his sister at all. He glanced at Ye Lingyue who gave him a meaningful look and turned his face away.
"Mother, I taught Yue’er during the time we went hunting... I was afraid we might encounter bad people or dangerous wild animals, so I thought it would be good if she could protect herself better," he explained.
After he said these, he inwardly patted himself on the chest proudly. He was so smart he could think of such a reasonable explanation on the spot.
Shen Jingyi nodded, but her face was still full of pondering.
"Mother, we will sleep early and prepare today," Ye Lingrui said, causing his parents to be surprised. "We will depart tomorrow."
"So soon?" Ye Zhiqiu, who hadn’t said anything since the start, asked in surprise.
Ye Lingyue nodded. "Sister Yulan’s condition won’t be able to wait for too long. We should do it as soon as possible."
After they said that, they excused themselves and went to their bedroom to take a rest. Meanwhile, Shen Jingyi also was anxious about preparing for their necessities.
Her children were so stubborn that even a bull wouldn’t be able to pull them back. Based on their temperament, even if they weren’t allowed to go, they would still sneak out later.
So, it would be better if she also made preparations for them.
Early in the morning, the three woke up quite early and immediately prepared their necessities, wrapping them in a bundle of cloth.
They would walk on foot since they don’t have any means of transportation yet. Ye Lingyue realized how agonizing it could be if they were to do that under the scorching sun, so she was considering buying a donkey or an ox in the market.
"Cousin, please be careful and keep yourself safe. Our family is indebted to you," Ye Jincheng told them emotionally.
They nodded, and after receiving their parents and eldest brother’s lecture, they were ready to go.
Ye Lanxi let out a huge sigh. "I thought they were going to lecture us for days to stop us from going."
On the way, they actually met Steward Du who put on a disdainful look at them. Only when they were getting closer did he change his expression.
"Young Masters, Young Miss, where are you all going to go?"
