Chapter 49: The Warmth of the New World
Maya was the first to wake up.
Accustomed her entire life to getting up before dawn to stoke the fire and begin heavy daily chores, her body responded out of habit. However, when she opened her eyes inside the cabin, she didn’t feel the freezing air that usually bit at her bones, nor the harsh winter chill.
On the contrary, she felt warm. A soft, comforting heat enveloped her beneath the blankets.
Maya lay motionless for a moment, her eyes fixed on the wooden ceiling. Everything experienced over the last few days seemed, for a second, like a distant fantasy or an illusion brought on by exhaustion. She had a hazy memory of the night before: the steam rising toward the stars, the soothing heat of the water, the laughter, the overwhelming pleasure, and finally, the feeling of being carried gently in Kellar’s strong arms. She remembered how he had laid her down so softly on the bed and how, before lying down beside her, she had seen him lighting that stone structure he called a "fireplace."
She turned her head on the pillow. In the dim light of the room, tiny flames still danced lazily inside the fireplace, casting warm shadows across the polished wood and keeping the entire house at a cozy temperature.
Beside her, Kellar slept peacefully, his face showing a serene composure that contrasted with the overwhelming power he possessed. A little further away, Mila and Meli rested curled up together, breathing.
Maya’s chest tightened—not from pain, but from an emotion so intense it brought a silent tear to her eye. Her whole life had been a constant struggle against the cold, starvation, and the fear of death. She had accepted her fate as a widow condemned to fade away in tribal misery, until he showed up. The man who claimed to come from another world had not only rewritten her fate, but had given her back dignity, pleasure, and a sense of safety she never believed she deserved.
Feeling grateful and alive for the first time in years, Maya smiled to herself. She leaned over Kellar and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, careful not to wake him, as she watched the fire dance in the fireplace with the certainty that she was no longer trapped in a dream, but in her new reality.
Meli, who had woken up a few moments later, kept her eyes half-closed, looking at the young woman curled up on the other side of Kellar. In her mind, thoughts similar to Maya’s were swirling.
She knew firsthand how brutal it was to be a widow in the tribe and the crushing burden of supporting her young daughter entirely alone. She remembered the years of anguish watching Mila grow up: a proud girl who refused to look for a husband just to depend on him, repeating over and over that she would fight for her own life before begging or becoming a mere shadow of a man.
Mila’s indomitable attitude had been born as armor against the constant contempt of the other children in the village. Unlike the other young women of the tribe, Mila never allowed herself to be trampled on; she answered every strike with a strike of her own. At first, her stubbornness allowed her to stand up to boys her age, but as they grew older and their bodies began to display the blessing of the Bear God, reality hit her without mercy. Sidelined purely by biology, any boy in the village could easily overpower her using sheer brute force.
Meli remembered with a ache how many times she had to tend to the wounds and bruises of that rebellious girl who refused to bend her knee.
And now, there she was. That same indomitable girl who had suffered so much was sleeping with a relaxed face, resting against the chest of the man she had chosen. The same young man whom the entire village used to mock: that slender boy with red hair and green eyes who, lacking the bulky build of the other warriors, had been an easy target for intimidation.
Yet, that same boy had shut every mouth in the village. Without needing the massive physique everyone was so proud of, Kellar had taken the spot of undisputed champion in both System trials, proving absolute superiority.
A deep sigh of peace escaped Meli’s lips. The sting of worry that had haunted her for years as a mother finally vanished. Her daughter hadn’t just found a man capable of protecting them and treating them with devotion, but an equal—a formidable warrior whom Mila could admire and love without ever having to surrender her pride.
Mila was the last to wake up. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she felt was the cozy heat filling the room and the solid warmth of Kellar’s body pressed against hers beneath the blankets.
She gazed at his sleeping face just a few inches away. To her, Kellar was no longer just the slender boy she used to see around the village; he was her champion, the invincible man who had displayed brutal strength without needing a bulky physique, shutting down every single warrior who had ever looked down on them. Watching him sleep so peacefully, knowing the ferocity and devotion he harbored beneath, filled her chest with burning pride.
For the first time in her life, Mila didn’t feel the need to be on the defensive or prove her worth to anyone. Beside him, she didn’t have to fight for her dignity; he respected her, desired her, and made her feel whole.
With a satisfied smile, Mila slid her hand under the sheet. She traced down Kellar’s firm abdomen until her fingers found his still-relaxed, warm cock. Wrapping her hand around it, she began caressing it softly, feeling it start to stir under her touch.
Knowing she had her man right where she wanted him, surrounded by the warm haven he had built for them, Mila sighed with devotion, ready to welcome the new day.
