Lesson 26: Confrontation: Previous

After dropping off Priest Bassani, next to Ray was Ashley, who stopped thinking and stood still.

"I'll take those two to the temple. Ash, can you hear me?

Ashley has been stunned for a while, but finally restarts on his call.

And right now, I don't understand what was happening in front of me, and I ask questions as I can think of, with a quick mouth like I can't imagine from my normal girlfriend.

"What's that about now? I said I'd be watching you in silence, but are you okay? I don't think Bassani can be trusted. What are you thinking? Are you okay with going to His Excellency the Baron..."

"You can't answer that much if you ask me at the top. I can trust Bassani... maybe. It looks like Bishop Azaro is giving me a hard time, and he thinks of me as a holy knight, or better than a bishop, from the headquarters of the Order."

"But aren't you the Holy Knight? Don't you trick him into becoming a problem later?"

"Ash, I've never called myself a saint. On the contrary, I didn't even say a denominational official."

"But as far as I could tell, it just sounded like denominational officials were talking to each other. Sure, didn't you say" we ”?

"I did use the word" we ”. But in this case, I used" we ”to mean people living in this world, and I didn't say a word that it was in the interest of Light God."

"Kee, isn't that a trick? Um, as far as I do remember, maybe so. But wouldn't it be awkward if Bassani reported it later?

"Right. But at least I think his current status would be fine. Besides, I don't know how he misunderstands it, but if he accidentally talks about the Holy Knight on a secret mission, he'd think he'd lose credibility within the Order... I'm a little unsure here..."

"Well... Tomorrow, no, we'll talk about it after we welcome you this morning. At least we're done investigating the grave vandalism...... you're already a dustpan, talk like this. Ordinary crusades are easier for me."

Ashley was thinking as she stared at Ray, who was struggling to pull off the executor.

(Ray says it's okay, but is it really okay? The Baron can be trusted to some extent. But if you decide to do damage to the city of Morton, you have the ruthlessness to cut us off easily... and so does Phototheism. Priest Bassani could have fooled him. But if this is passed on to the Church headquarters, it will be awkward... more so Bishop Azaro. That fanatic can't just disappear in silence. I can't say where, but it's dangerous... do you realize that, Ray...)

She braces her belly that she has no choice but to run out, even as she is in fear.

Laughing at Ray as she clapped her shoulders, she drew the two executors with him to the temple.

The executioner's foot wound healed with the healing magic of Ray's light, but to avoid escape, he re-tied it with a rope again and left it in the warehouse with an ape.

He recovered the body of another executioner who was further murdered and asked Chief Hales to mourn him.

Tell the Chief Cleric that the real culprit of grave vandalism is Phototheism, that the culprit wants to keep it here until Phototheism arrives, and that we will respond when Phototheism comes to the dispute again.

"Are you sure? I'm sorry to bother you, Ray, and Ashley, and I'm not asking you to do that."

"No, let me finish. This will also protect ourselves."

When Ray answers that, Ashley also says,

"I'm fine. Ray just overdid it this time. So this guy takes responsibility. That's all."

In response to her like that with a laugh, Ray was in protest with a laugh just like "it won't be there".

The chief cleric was also caught laughing, and three laughs were echoing in the temple late at night.

The next morning, Ray and Ashley woke up at the temple where they were working in the morning.

In the temple, I hear prayers of content thanking me for the evening that brings me rest and rejoicing that I have been safely welcomed into the morning.

As the two rubbed their sleepy eyes, when they rose, it cleared up nicely outside, and the young clerics had already worked in the morning, cleaning the garden and watering the flowerbeds.

Chief Hales said he would prepare breakfast, so we get to the table with the clergy.

The meal was temple-like and qualitative, but the flavour was good and satisfying.

Having a cup of tea after dinner, Ray was thinking about Light Divinity.

(It's peace itself here, but why try to annoy these serene people? I don't understand it at all...... Priest Bassani, I guess, isn't so poisoned yet, but I wonder if it's the fate of religion. When power is concentrated, the original purpose of faith is distorted to go… There must be a confrontation today with that Bishop Azaro (fanatic). I still have to hit the play today for that...... I have something mentally tough, this is it. I was just a high school student until a while ago...)

Even though Ray started it himself, he was a little afraid of confronting Bishop Azaro, a fanatic. But whatever I am, the words that ridiculed Ashley come back to life and burn my fighting spirit again.

(My first lover I've ever had... embarrassed to put it into words... if it's to protect that lover, I can't help but be a little impotent. If it comes down to it, you and I can just run away. Bishops in local cities should not be able to turn their backs on anything... maybe...)

Ashley sees how Ray thinks,

(Are you reflecting that I did a little too much last night? But why would Ray be so upset when it comes to light theism, Bishop Azaro?

She didn't really care that Bishop Azaro cursed her.

If you stand on the battlefield, with all that cursing and other everyday tea meals, you don't care about one thing at a time. Also, if a woman is a mercenary, even if it's not on the battlefield, a lot is often said.

For that reason, I had no idea what Ray was burning his anger at.

(Certainly Chief Hales and the clerics here are all good people. I know well that I want to say a word to the Light Divinity that disparages these people. But do we need to put ourselves at risk for the people we just met yesterday?

If Ray listens to that heart voice, he'll be pretty disappointed, but fortunately, her heart voice is not audible to him.

About two hours after breakfast, 9: 00 a.m.

It's getting noisy out there in Russia.

Looking outside, dozens of the faithful, led by Bishop Azaro, were stuffed outside the gate.

"Those who believe in the Dark God (Noctis), the hand of the devil! The corpse-eating ghost Ghoul showed up last night, preventing the dead from sleeping, I hear. From now on, we mourn the dead. The devil's men must leave now!

When Bishop Azaro shouted so, the followers behind him likewise said, "Step aside from the devil's hand!," or "the corpse-eating ghosts!" and so on.

Ray heads to the gate in slow stride.

Ashley was following me just as slowly back there.

As he walked, he was checking to see if there was a Priest Bassani. And the priest was not on this occasion.

Ray howled,

(It was troublesome to have Priest Bassani, but I haven't brought him here as expected. Bishop Azaro would only want to stand out for himself. Besides, if the executor had missed his escape, he would think it would be troublesome to have a liaison priest...)

Ray stood before Bishop Azaro and addressed the Bishop.

"Chief Azaro (...) Lord. Who told you the grave was vandalized last night? No one should have gone to the police today, though. And no corpse-eating ghosts have appeared. Because we were watching, no doubt about it. Besides, this investigation into grave vandalism ended last night. If you don't trust me, do you want to check the orb with your guild?

Instead of ”bishop," he dared inquire under the official name ”clergyman."

And poke at the fact that Azaro can't possibly know.

"Hey, what... my denomination has definitely confirmed. Or it's no use hiding it! The adventurer charm isn't perfect!

Azaro is clearly upset, but he tells the followers behind him with vigour not to spread the upset.

"Really... that's crazy. Where did you hear that? We were late last night and I was going to go report to the Adventurer Guild now...... strange isn't it? Or did he, the corpse-eating ghost, tell you? You have an unusual acquaintance."

Azaro turns bright red on Ray's hard words.

When Azaro tried to argue, Ray started talking ahead of time. He interrogates Azaro in a tone as if to impeach him.

"Chief Azaro! Come on, why don't you tell me the truth! Didn't you try to discredit the Temple of Darkness! Grave vandalism was a man of man. One killed, but two captured. And he testified that he was commissioned to do grave vandalism! In fact, there were no corpse-eating ghosts! Still insisting we still have a corpse eater!

Surprised by the suddenly unusual tone of Ray, both Azaro and the followers behind him become quiet.

Azaro returned to me,

"Do you intend to denigrate our Light Divinity by making such a falsehood! Let me show you proof that we're involved!

Ray looked at me as a snack, turning it into a tone of ridicule,

"Until just now, who was impeaching the Temple of Darkness without proof? Have you even forgotten a few minutes ago?

And towards the followers around us,

"Are you guys the same back there? If Bishop Azaro (...) is convicted, I'll make a complaint that you are both guilty of the same crime! That's okay."

The followers behind the words suddenly shut up.

They just want to curse from a safe place. All I have is a desire to curse and relieve stress at someone I'm not fighting back.

Such is their attitude changing to Russia when they hear that they may be guilty. If we thought we were in a safe place, we'd be surprised to see the fact that it was actually a dangerous place.

Several men yell, "Never mind, we will follow the bishop," but the vast majority of the people were looking at each other. Some of them even have the expression that they have believed the Bishop's words but have been betrayed.

"Then, everyone, you can charge me with the same crime as Bishop Azaro! I'm bringing the killer in now. And, as it were, we'll head to your lord's hall, but we'll have those with the bishop with us."

He returns to the temple in a slow pace.

The people left are anxious about how he looks with that confidence.

When one man walked away saying that he had remembered an errand, the faithful disappeared so that his teeth could fall out.

All that remained in that place, where the faithful were gone, were Bishop Azaro and officials of the Light Divinity in cleric clothing.

Azaro, looking at the people leaving early enough,

(The faithless... so this country (Lax) must do more to preach. The people in the Holy Capital don't know that. But there was an error in Bassani's report? There was something somewhat defiant about it, but I never made such a mistake... okay, either way, there's no proof. I don't like leaving the ruling to the Lord in the way of faith, but I can't plead not guilty without proof. On the contrary, I will sue you for this one being charged with innocence......)

Ray and Ashley brought the two executioners back to the gate.

"Oh, that's a lot less. Are you the only one in the Lordship's Hall with a temple official... then we'll go, but please don't let the killer or us get our hands on you. You can't kill him by mistake in a counterattack."

Azaro sends a glance at the words, but says nothing and walks away from this place first.

After greeting Chief Hales, the two took an executor tied to a rope and went up the hill.
