Lesson 10: Into the Land of the Devil Nation

Tria 3026, early morning of January 20th.

Ray Arklight consolidates himself in his gear for cold protection and stands in front of the gates of Fort Toa, where light snow strikes - an important defensive stronghold between the Kingdom of Kaum and the Devil's Land of Kwaedam Tenebre.

He is followed by Ashley Markat, besides Stella, by five of Luke's beastly slaves Uno, Seyce, Ocho, Nuebe and Diez, as well as two more Derve and Lauri, captives of the Little Ghost tribe.

Hamish Markat, Alberic Auger and other key faces of the Markat Mercenary Corps (Red Arms) had come to drop him off.

"Go with care. Don't push it."

Ray nodded at Hamish's words,

"Yes. I will definitely be back. Okay, I'll be there."

Yes, I answered well and left.

The Rays proceed cautiously through the mountains of Aquila, alerting to the scourge of the demons.

He thought he was on the lookout because the Demonic side was informed of the presence of the front-line stronghold, the village of Leriche, and a way out to the west.

Uno and the Beastly Slaves guard their surroundings, while going down a different route than last time - a route straight north and not northeast - down the mountain path. It takes time to cross the steep valleys and ridges, although it was a few elites. It proceeded approximately fifty km until the village of Leriche reached its visible position, but three days had already passed since its departure.

Fortunately, few demonic raids were alarming, to the extent that the hungry wolves appeared several times, which did not constitute any obstacle to them, the elite ones.

But in the harsh cold mountains, I couldn't get a satisfactory rest, and Ray, who was mentally weak, was even less likely to open his mouth because of his fatigue. Furthermore, the fatigue colors of Lauri and Darvé, the physically inferior ghost tribes, were also intense among this member.

On the evening of January 22nd, Ashley proposes a reconnaissance to the village of Leriche.

"Why don't we let Lauri or Derve infiltrate the village tomorrow night? If you know what's going on with the enemy, you won't be able to do anything about it."

Ray thinks a little, but I can't think together.

"I guess it's dangerous. If you know someone, they'll be suspicious right away..."

Ashley shook her neck to the side,

"Are there nearly a thousand villagers alone? And now there's a massive follow-on force. I don't think he's likely to be blamed."

Listening to the words, Ray meditates his eyes and summarizes his thoughts.

(Maybe Ash is right. A small ghost tribe has a large number of people, and is unlikely to be blamed. The only purpose is to know if Luna is in the village, so it shouldn't take that long. Maybe we can figure it out if we get Uno and the others to back it up...)

And I realize that she cared about her health.

(Tomorrow night means you can rest all day tomorrow... you made me care...)

He slowly opens his eyes.

"Right. Let's rest here until tomorrow evening. When it's night, we'll have Lauri and Darvé, and Uno and the others scout."

If I were you, I'd just like to see Luna's location as soon as possible, but I was aware that I couldn't afford that right now.

(At this rate, the ahead is considerate. You won't be able to sleep on the bunk (bed) not only in the mountains, but also after entering the Devil's Land... it's only been three days. It will take at least three months. My strength, no, do I have the strength...)

When you start preparing for your rest, Uno kneels before Ray.

"I'd like your permission to scout Leriche..."

The suggestion was to check the location and alertness of the village in preparation for tomorrow's infiltration.

"If it's me and Dies, I was wondering if there's less fear of finding them if they're disputed in the shade of night. By the end of the day, you'll have an extraordinary chance of success tomorrow."

Ray thought Uno's suggestion was reasonable, but it's not easy to judge in a fatigued situation.

He was worried about what to do, staring at Uno and Diez.

(Neither Uno nor Diez seem so tired...... but aren't you really tired? If you can't...)

Ashley felt that Ray was troubled by the

"Lord Uno is a man who can manage himself. He says the Uno is fine. Why don't you let me handle this?

Ray nods at the words.

(Surely a real professional shouldn't be forced in these circumstances. Because if you can't do it here and fail, everything goes crazy. Then let me take care of it......)

"Now, Mr. Uno, Mr. Dies, please. But don't just push it."

Uno responds with one knee on his knees "as you please" and bows his head. And soon disappeared into the darkness.

■ ■ ■

Time goes back to January 18, four days ago.

Varma Niska of the Moon Demons avoided the ambush of the Mercenary Corps of Markat (Red Arms) and joined the Ghost Corps of Leriche Village.

The unit that joined us was a mixed unit of the Little and Medium Ghost tribes led by Einar Slangs. Nestri Kronvar led the Great Ghost Troops ahead to chase the Marcut Mercenaries, and Ray's trap has left them unable to rendezvous because of heavy damage.

She was feeling the tension breaking apart she was straining.

(Finally, I was able to join my countrymen. Still, in a dangerous mountain, but hundreds of warriors are protecting me... for now, I'd like to lay down on the bedside...)

Luna, the son of the moon, who was about to be distracted by the liberation of his own hard work, but seemed anxious beside him, enters his eyes and regains his temper.

(I need to think more about your son than about myself. Your son should be anxious. I'm worried about your gaze from the warriors... and I don't have a companion here to use. Don't let me distract you......)

In the village of Leriche there were only three magicians, or magicians, of the demonic system - the Moon Demons, the Winged Demons and other winged demons. Besides, the Winged Demon "Lesser Demon" is a family member, and there is not even an Imp.

This is because most of the demonic spellmasters were summoned to Luberna, the capital, to perform a great deal of magic, such as the wing demon and the summoning ritual of the little demon. The summoned wing demons, but because they were put into the eastern part of the Kingdom of Lax, a manoeuvring operation, they were not put into the side of the Kingdom of Kaum except the wing demon led by Varma, and there are no wing demons in the village of Lelice at present.

The wing demon summons cannot be done alone unless she is a good spellman of the Varma-class Class, and there are only about ten spellmen as good as she is, even in Sokius as a whole.

It carries out massive transfer magic in order to carry out yet another surprise attack on eastern Lax. Sent with this transfer magic were Balthazar Owomoela, the Great Haunted Operator (Tamer), and Yurki Bindler of the Middle Haunted, who were the secrets of the devil's side jumping across the giant Aquila Mountains.

This transfer magic, but uses the immense magic formation of the temple in Luberna to transfer people to the opposing magic formation. For this reason, it can only be sent unilaterally from Luberna, but it is very effective for ambushes like this one.

This time we are also sending in the Big Ghost tribe and family orgs, which are transferring a significant number of people. For this reason, it could not be sent in at once and the transfer had been carried out over several degrees. Still considerably burdened, it was squeezing in numbers, winged demon spellman Asla Volti and family wing demons and little demons flew over Aquila without using the magic of transfer, the Middle-Ghost only forwarded Tamer, and the Orcs were sourcing locally.

This transfer magic consumes extraordinarily more magic than normal magic. So much so that more than ten high-ranking magicians have been told that they need to continue sending magic over several days. It was further said that the load on the spirit was greater than normal magic and that it would take more than six months for it to fully recover. For this reason, many of the magicians had not yet been able to return.

If there is another reason why there are few demons here, it can be mentioned that the demons wanted to smoke demon spellmen. Since the founding of Sokius, the relationship between ghosts and demons has felt like a passive alliance, which has been one of the causes of the low number of demons in the village of Leriche, the stronghold of ghosts.

When Luna felt the gaze of a ghost tribe and looked anxious, Varma said, "Don't worry. Because there is no harm done to your son," he says gently.

Luna nodded small, but despair was spreading in her heart.

(You are finally taken to the land of the devil... I don't know how many there are, but if there were so many... I can't do it no matter how much Saint (Hikari) you are...)

Still, Luna swears to her heart that she won't give up.

(I don't know what's waiting for you, but you can't give up. I'm sure the Saint is trying to help me. Maybe there was an army just now to help me......)

Furthermore, he thought that he could not die easily.

(... Death here won't tell the Saint. If I were to die, I'd have to make sure he got that... well, I'd have to get away with it on my own. If he was killed on the way out, that information should be passed on to the outside...)

Varma kept telling her, unable to take into account Luna's heart.

"... Leriche is not a big town, but there are decent houses and plenty of food. Thank you for your hard work so far, but you should be able to rest tonight..."

Luna said, "Right. I'm really tired," he clouds his expression. That was an act to buy me some time.

Varma and the others entered the village of Leriche on the afternoon of January 18th.

The village of Leriche was so peaceful that it did not seem to be at the foot of the dangerous Aquila Mountains.

It uses terrain like a small basin to prevent raids from dangerous demons. Sometimes the basin has stream-rich water with small rivers and relatively fertile land in the Aquila Mountains, with agricultural land that cuts through the surrounding forests.

Just in the middle of winter, we don't see farmers working on farms, but we see villagers working on waterways, etc. They were not demons, but mostly people and beasts.

Leriche is a village originally created by the fleeing people of the West.

The village was formed and lived secluded for decades or so, but was accidentally discovered by the Demonic Army and incorporated into Sochius. Initially the villagers feared about the demonic tribe, but they started a ghost tribe with a horrible appearance, and the demonic side welcomed the villagers warmly into their country. Initially they were rebellious villagers in their minds, but gradually accepted them because the tax burden was lighter than they thought and the presence of even more demonic armies drastically reduced the damage caused by demons. For villagers who have gasped and fled to high taxes and impossible mentoring, Sokius became the second motherland.

That being the case, the villagers were warmly welcoming Yesperi Mayuri and the other run-down Great Haunted Warriors who defended Luna.

(How come... the Demons, the Ghosts aren't enemies? Even though the people in this village only look like ordinary humans and beasts......)

Luna was confused.

For the people of the West, including her, the Demons were an abominable opponent. Information was circulating that the demons who invaded the eastern part of the Kingdom of Lax - a kingdom north of Periclitle - attacked a nearby village and grabbed young women to create an orc that was a family member. Orcs were also summoned by the Middle-Ghost manipulators (Tamers) who were actually sent in by transfer magic.

When this information came through, the disgust of young women towards the demons, especially ghosts, grew very strong. Luna also hears stories of young women being forced to become pregnant by demons and being killed even more tragically, and hates ghosts as well as orcs and goblins.

After acting with Yesperi and others, we found that all ghost tribes were rational “people," not “ghost-like" races, but still the disgust planted once did not disappear inside.

Upon entering the village of Leriche, Einar Slangs of the Little Ghost tribe, who is in charge here, came to greet him. He had a brief face-to-face rendezvous, but he wanted Luna, the son of the moon, to see him again because he had returned to a safe base.

"I'm in a good mood for you, son of the moon..."

I was uncomfortable with a goblin-like face Einar speaking out nicely, but I felt like a competent official for the occasional look on my face.

(The same goes for Yesperi, but this guy's not as barbarian as they say. If so, I might have a chance too. Son of the Moon seems to be close to God, and if you can use it well...)

Luna was listening to Einar's mouth, thinking about it.

Einar on the other hand, but was disappointed to see the Son of the Moon.

(That's not as divine as the Moon Demons say. How much more pierced is Varma next door... more than a thousand compatriots scattered just to grab such a little girl...)

I didn't represent that in any way on my face, and I kept grinning. However, that grin only made Luna disgusted.

When Varma, who was next to Luna, sent a glimpse that felt less annoying, Einar bowed her head, "... sorry for the long time,"

"I was so excited about your son's descent. Now that you're tired, let's show you where to stay."

He guided himself to a private house near the house where he was taking command.

A two-story building on a triangular roof, but fairly well built for a peripheral village, with smoke rising from the chimney.

Once inside, two young women of a human race were holding back, and when they admitted what Luna and the others looked like, they bowed their heads deeply.

Einar pointed to the two of them,

"This is Ellie and Paula, who will take care of your child. Being a village daughter in the countryside, we may not be able to forgive you."

Ellie is a tall girl to lose weight, fifteen or six years old. He had a frightened look on his face, which was blurry but noticeable.

The other Paula is a girl of the same age, but she is quite short and adorable like a small animal. She was more curious or her big eyes were moving restlessly.

Varma told them, "This is Luna, son of the moon. Don't be rude," he introduced Luna,

"I will ask the two of you to work as your son's maid for the time being. If you have any questions, whatever. Ask me immediately."

I ordered the two of them in a slightly stronger tone.

I hear that I have a samurai attached to me, and Luna is discouraged.

(If only Varma could have poked a gap... maybe they'd stick together nicely...)

Regardless of Luna's thoughts, Varma has called out.

"We still have time before the sun goes down. Why don't you come take a bath?"

"Hot tub? Do you have a bath!

With the exception of special areas in this world, it seldom means that other than royalty and senior nobility bathe. The effort and cost of preparing water is a wall, but the very fact that the term bathing in the village on this periphery comes out is surprising.

Luna herself, at the time she regained her memory, was stressed that she could not wash her body, but grew up in a poor village called the village of Thysek, so she began to give up naturally. But then it was in an environment where I could bathe, making it easy for me to live for nearly a month and not even wipe my body satisfactorily, and I overreacted to the word bath.

"Yes. There is a spring in the village with boiling water. This tub is made of stone, but you can use enough water…"

Varma's explanation continued, but Luna was in a state of "hot springs or..." not here in her mind.

"Lord Einar has my recognition, so would you like to come?

He was abducted and exhausted by a dangerous trip in the woods, but the fact that he was stinking for Luna, a young woman, was intolerable.

For that reason, I had to swallow Varma's suggestion, which is an abominable opponent.

Taking Erie and Paula, appointed as samurai, Luna and Varma headed to the hot spring on the north side of the village. It was close to the mountain hem and was equipped with a small shed to be used for the strip yard and a blindfold fence.

There was no shadow near the hot spring to see if Einar, the commander, was well instructed. But he was aware that Varma had multiple signs dozens of meters away.

(Exactly. There's no drain. It's easy for the little ghosts to be carefree at times like this. If you were a Middle-Ghost, you would have placed soldiers nearby without thinking...)

Hot springs are close to rock baths like those found in Japan. There was some wild secret water fun with some crude handkerchiefs aside.

Trying to get some hanging water, the two samurai tried to help, but Luna turns it down and washes her body in mind.

(Terrible stuff. I can't help it because I haven't been able to wipe my body for nearly a month, even when I was in Tisek village I wiped my body every day...... but I want soap. The scented soap I used to use...)

Next to her there was a figure of Varma cleansing her body in the same way. Look at the wings of black wings of the same color as the beautiful dark hair, clear white skin, limbs with feminine soft curves and exhale.

(This guy looks more like the son of the moon. Oh my god, my hair is damaged, my face is tanned...)

With that in mind, slowly immerse yourself in the hot tub and exhale heavily.

(It feels really good. It feels like I'm back. It's not a wild boarding house today, and I can have something normal for dinner... I may not have a good chance of getting away with it, but I need to get some health back... I need to make good use of my current situation to do that...)

He was solidifying his resolve, looking out at the grey skies where the snow glistened.
