Lesson 60: Candidate for squire

The night of March 2nd.

He also stopped his enthusiasm outside the temple and is now back in the quiet capital as usual.

The Rays were finishing dinner and enjoying their time slowly. After Luna's speech, which took place this afternoon, I made preparations starting tomorrow, but that is also over in the evening, and so far I have nothing but to rest my body.

The only ones with Ray are Ashley and Stella, and the Unos in the Beastman Slave Squad. Luna, son of the moon, went to her bedroom after her speech to rest her body.

Though I had dinner with him, he's been back in his bedroom since then.

However, that was not because he was ill. After recovering late at night, Luna was fine for less time to rest.

So much so that he said he was doing better than usual, especially after his afternoon speech, that he was convinced that Elis Nortia and Varma Niska had gained strength from the gods. But he's worried about the aftermath of Ray's near taking over his spirit by the godless Vanitas, and he's resting just in case.

"Tomorrow you will finally stand before the Ghosts."

When Ashley said that as she shrugged, Ray replied with no feelings, "Right."

"But are you sure it's okay? Surely as far as listening to Luna today, I think the ghost tribe will be convinced too...... don't we have to think about Vanitas doing something again?

"Right. Whatever it is, I don't think you can be alarmed because you're God. But I don't think there's anything I can do to worry about it right now."

Stella could only nod, "Right," too, to Ray's answer.

"Here's the plan ahead, let's check it out again..."

That's what Ashley said and started talking about the course of action after tomorrow.

"It's tomorrow night against the ghosts in Rowni. It's probably late at night. So as Luna successfully persuaded me, it would be March 4th the next day. The mountain road leads to Zalesche about 500 km (Kimmel). We have to watch the 15th as we use carriages and horses. Three hundred and fifty kimmels to Toa for persuading the ghosts in Zaleshe. Even if you proceed with a horse, it will take ten days. Not so far."

The two snort loudly at her words.

"That means we can't arrive in Toa as early as April. It's already been two months since we left. By the time I get back to Toa, it's three months. Fathers will have already left the fort. Will it be all right to go back from Sochius' side to such a place?"

Her concern was that the Markat Mercenaries (Red Arms) were leaving Fort Toa. Originally, the Markat mercenary regiment went from Periclitle to Fort Toa by Demonic Crusade Agreement, but the Great Ghost, already the main force of the Demonic Army, has returned east and has no reason to remain at Fort Toa.

Hamish Markat would try to stay for a reason, but he thought there were cost and contract issues and in the middle of February he was leaving for Fonce, the king's capital of the Kingdom of Lax, where he was based.

In other words, I am concerned that if we return from the land of the demons known as the Eternal Darkness (Kwaedam Tenebre), where there are no allies in Fort Toa and no one has ever returned, we will be detained as spies and executed at worst.

"Would it not be better for the Uno lords to be a preaching order and secretly enter the kingdom of Kaum from Leriche"

"Don't think that's hard. We're leaving from Toa. If you go back in secret, that's what makes you suspicious. Well, I suppose one of the Unos has to go to the preaching."

That's what Ray says and smiles at Nicole.

"That far ahead, let's leave it now. I guess we should think about it when we leave Zalesche."

"You sure do. He seemed too anxious about tomorrow to look ahead."

Ashley was feeling anxious inside. Because there is no end to the anxiety element as to whether we can persuade the angry ghost tribe, whether we can safely return to the west as we were able to persuade them, or whether we can never be suspected of doing so.

(If the enemy is a ghost tribe, you don't have to think that far. But the enemy is an evil god. It can manipulate people's minds, too. I don't know what to do...)

I was Ray who responded in a way that didn't feel right, but I had the same concerns as her. But I'm breaking it off that there's nothing I can do at this point right now.

With the subtle air flowing, I could hear knocking on the door.

Uno told Ray, "It's Lord Varma. One of the people is accompanying him," he eared, and as soon as he heard "It's Varma".

When Stella opened the door, a single human woman stood with Varma. The woman is in her late thirties and wears cleric clothing that feels slightly simplistic. It didn't feel like a beauty, but it had a soft atmosphere and seemed even more thoughtful.

"This is Ione, the one who plans to accompany your son. I'm a cleric apprentice, but as a healer I have quite an arm. Of course not at Lord Ray's feet."

The woman, called Ione, bent her hips wide and showed the greatest respect.

"My name is Ione. In the temple we are able to help the priest with a slight force"

I'm slightly nervous about serving my moon son directly, but I haven't lost my composure in front of Ray. Ray started asking questions thinking this woman seemed okay.

"I'm sorry to be rude, but let me check a few things out. First of all, do you have any experience in combat?

Ione nodded with a constant grin and answered in a clear tone.

"Before I helped the clergy, I was a healer touring the countryside, so I have experience fighting demons. Of course, we didn't fight aggressively in the vanguard."

Ray nods to the answer and moves on to the next question.

"So do you know what the level is now? What is your level of magic and martial arts?"

"Magic has forty-three tree attributes and forty-two water attributes. I'm not very good at martial arts, as long as you're embarrassed, but I'm at level twenty with sticks..."

Ashley felt slightly uncomfortable listening to Ione.

(This is a level where you can do enough in the Mercenary Corps (Red Arms). I can't imagine such a healer at martial arts level 20... from the looks of it. Are you wearing cats or were you in a land so dangerous......)

I decided to confirm that.

"I can use martial arts, but I don't think healers like you will go through battles often."

Ione never stopped laughing even at Ashley's impolite inquiry.

"Near the capital is safe, but when you leave the capital, demons attack you frequently. The villages where we go around were poor and we didn't get many escorts..."

In her description the security around Luberna is relatively good, but when twenty kimmels leave, various demons appear. A demonic healer like the Moon Demons and Wing Demons would be accompanied by adequate escorts, but not enough escorts for her, who was nothing more than a man of what belonged to the Temple of Darkness. For this reason, he explains that he needed to protect himself and learned to stick.

He added that he could ride more horses and was used to camping.

"Okay. There is no obstacle to behavior in the land where demons come out, and first, it is very comforting that healers will join us. I'm in favor of Mr. Ione joining us, but what do you think of Ash and Stella?

Ashley answered his question first.

"I have no reason to disagree, either. If you were going around the village, you would also have knowledge as a pharmacist. My only concern was that I had to rely on Ray's magic. Even though that's healing magic, it reduces his burden. And if Lord Varma had chosen, there would be nowhere to include us."

Ray nods contentedly, gazing at Stella.

"I... let me think a little more. What Ray and Ashley say is best, but there's something to hook up with..."

"Is there something wrong with me......" Ione nods. The grin that had floated until earlier had disappeared and had turned into a similar expression to grief.

Stella hastily denied her opinion.

"It doesn't mean you have a problem...... Ah! Yes. Have you already met Mr. Luna?

Ione gives Stella the look of consternation she called “Mr. Luna," but immediately says, "You just made it happen. For me, it was the happiest moment since I was born…" he had a tranced look.

Ray saw the look on his face and understood that Stella cared.

"I don't mind while you're in Sochius, but if you're going to get that attitude after you cross Fort Toa, you can't allow me to accompany you"

"Where shouldn't I be?," he argues in a slightly stronger tone.

"It could threaten Luna's safety. Lord Varma, you know what I'm talking about."

Varma instantly understood his thoughts.

"Being the most important person in Sochius means you think you are the most hateful person for the countries of the West...... it was certainly a blind spot. Though apprenticeship, I thought that if you were a priest in the Temple of Darkness, you deserved to serve your son..."

Ray and Stella were concerned that Luna was supposedly the son of the moon. I have explained to Randal Ogburn, a defensive commander in the upper ranks of the Mercenary Corps of Markat and Periclitle, but I do not use the term Son of the Moon for anyone else.

At the time, he himself did not understand what the Son of the Moon was like, so there was no perception of being the most important figure of the Demon Nation. One way or another, he explained that he was a sacrificial man.

If Ione were to enter the West in his present state, there would come out those who wonder why Luna, who is but an adventurer, could be so fu "unkempt". And if Ione were exposed as coming from eternal darkness (Kwaedam Tenebre), Luna would find herself in a dangerous situation.

"But if I say that, does Lord Stella and Lord Uno's attitude toward Lord Ray also look unusual?

Ashley answers Varma's question on Ray's behalf.

"Ray is thought to be some knight collapse. Besides, it is famous in the Kingdom of Lax and Periclitle as the" White Master ”. Then there is no discomfort in having a squire. But Luna's not. An adventurer, a young adventurer who is not a famous adventurer. I say myself that I was born in a poor village. If someone with such an attitude as Lord Ione attached to her, there would be a few who would be suspicious."

Ione's expression becomes even more cloudy in their conversation.

"So what should I do... How can I earn the honor of serving your child..."

Listening to them, Ray was worried about what to do.

(I think Mr. Ione is a difficult person to obtain. But you wouldn't be able to tell “Son of the Moon” to hang out with Frank. For example, I just have to give you some reason. That's a hard reason...)

I will put that into words, thinking about why I take an excessively respectful attitude.

"If Mr. Ione can't change his attitude towards Luna, I think we just need to make a case for it. For example, her parents helped her..."

"That's impossible. For it is more credible that Luna herself helped Lord Ione. This neighborhood gets totally made-up... but I don't even feel like it involves how we get into Toa"

Stella suggested in Ashley's words, "Would it not be better if this story were joined by Mr. Luna as well?"

"Right. It also involves her origins, so you should think about it together. Lord Varma, is Luna still awake? If you're awake, I'd like to tell you this story."

I leave the room saying Varma will check on me. Ione left behind had his grin disappeared when he came in and he leaned down with a sad look on his face.

Although the Rays sympathize, they can't find the words to hang.

Varma came back in about five minutes.

"Think it's quicker to come with me," Luna showed up from behind.

At that moment, Ione lays flat on the floor. With a bitter smile about the condition, Ray explained the situation to Luna.

"... I think it's even hard to get into Toa when it's like this"

At first, Luna had the look of being incomprehensible, but immediately understands the situation.

"Right... that was a blind spot. Sure, if it was like this, they'd be suspicious."

"I wish there was some reason. Just like Stella did to me. I can't think of a convenient reason. I thought you might have some good ideas."

Ray told me so, slightly confused, but I immediately began to think.

"It's hard. The people who helped me were aristocrats, but I've never been called upon to be like you... yes! I don't know."

That's what I said and started explaining.

"All you have to do is call me as well. This man has been abducted from the west. And they helped me after they helped me. So I consider myself a benefactor of my life, too. Well, then, don't you think it's weird?

"You're anxious to be able to match Tsujitsu," Ashley said, but Luna was talking to Ione regardless.

"Ray here is my ally. That's who the gods sent in to help me, too. Are you listening to that?

Luna was very naturally speaking in an orderly tone to a woman who was not strange to say her own mother. It's unthinkable when she was in Japan, but it was normal for her to change her attitude depending on her identity in the environment she grew up in in this world. He was further brought to Sochius before being treated as a superior, and seemed to acquire it naturally.

"No. I heard from my hometown... to help your son from the gods..."

Ione stares at Ray with a stunned look on his face.

"So consider it the same as me. Of course, treat Mr Ashley and Mr Stella the same way, as I treat them with respect. Do you understand?"

"It's not like your child... if that's your child's will, I just obey. Dear Ray, Dear Ashley, Dear Stella, Regards"

Ray is smiling bitterly at Luna's persuasion, which can also be described as forceful.

"Now, with the setting that Mr. Ione was caught during a previous ghost invasion. Ash, I wonder if there were any villages around Toa that were wiped out during the Battle of Acree Chain."

"Many villages should have been wiped out or abandoned during that battle. I don't even know his name."

"If a lot of villages are missing, you can't even have a village with the right name. Because Acree Chain is twenty years old, I don't think anyone remembers the names of all the villages..."

Ray's contemplated scenario was that Ione was from a small village that had been wiped out, and although captured by a ghost tribe nineteen years earlier, he found himself a healer and was put to work without being seedbed.

Rays, who headed to rescue Luna, stumbled upon her and rescued her, returning with her. If the orb showing her identity were to have been lost when she was abducted, it would not be questionable if she did not have the orb of the Kingdom of Kaum and had Sokius' things.

"... Mr. Ione was helped by us, but if we took care of a lot of things during our escape, we wouldn't be uncomfortable together. I don't know if it's like this."

"That's Ray," Luna laughs teasingly at Ray's thoughts, but Ashley and the others were frightened and lost their words.

"Don't be so thoughtful. Sure, Tsujitsu is easy to match, but with my head, it's finally coming along... well, Ray, I can't help it."

Varma was also stunned, but after muttering to herself, "That's just someone called the White Army Master.

"I was wondering if that would be okay with me, too. I hope Ione doesn't have to borrow later... Ione, did you understand what Lord Ray is talking about? It's important to your child's safety. If you have any doubts, let me be clear now."

That's what I say and look at Ione, but did Ione get carried away by the high-ranking spellman of the Moon Demon clan, Ione has no words coming out.

"We still have a long way to go, so it doesn't have to be right now," Ray laughs.

Ione could only answer to disappear "yes".
