Episode 65: The Holy King's Army Comes Out

Around 3pm on August 5th.

Half a month has passed since I left Ezarrington.

Initially things were going well, but the streets were overflowing with Imperial Army heavy units and didn't go as far as they thought. Still, it was a lightly dressed horseback ride and proceeded about thirty km (Kimmel) per day, reaching the intermediate town of Fosdale.

In the meantime, there has been no major trouble and nothing like using the Lockhart family name has happened.

Fosdale is a fortified city, but it is different from the standard fortified city called the imperial style.

The standard fortified city is surrounded on one side by a Kimmel and a ten-metre (melt) high wall, no moat has been built, but Fosdale is a large fortress surrounded on one side by a three-kimmel wall and a moat about ten melts wide. The walls of the castle are littered with towers, with the strong impression of a battle castle.

It is for historical reasons that Fosdale is such a robust fortified city.

This hits the border with the central region, and when you cross the Foss River west of town, it becomes a vast meadow area. For this reason, during the expansion of the Empire, it was a land of repeated death fights with nomads and man-made (Centaur) tribes, a horseback riding nation.

Even though the Empire was the most militarily proud period of expansion, the Imperial Army continued to be pushed by horseback riding nations as soon as they entered the meadow zone. For this reason, they used natural elements to create robust fortifications and outmaneuver the horseback riding nation's offense based here.

Nowadays, both nomads and humans are respectful to the Empire, and no function as a castle fortress is required. In addition, the Standing Army also has only about a thousand Fosdale regiments, making it a peaceful land that is only hitting the periphery's policing.

The Rays crept through the huge castle gate in Fosdale.

There was an imperial-style township spread there, but the figure of the people who live is very different from that of the southern part of the empire, and other than Luna, he wanders his gaze with intrigue.

"You're totally different from what you're wearing."

At the end of Ashley's gaze there was a young man in a horseback riding nation costume who wrapped cloth around his head like a turban and put a vest on colorful larger clothes in blue and red.

"That's amazing. I don't think it's an empire."

"Right," Stella replies to Ray's sentiments, "but she looks around as intriguing as he does.

Even she traveled through various lands during her slavery years, for the first time in the Mid-Empire.

"You smell unusual."

There was a distinctly different scent of spice around the Imperial City. It emanated from a stall sticking out on the road, which was also freshly exotic.

"Shall we see town later," Ray invites Ashley and Stella.

"I'm going to be in Nojuku tomorrow, so you should take a rest today."

I remember Luna smiling and drawing attention, but also being excited when she first came here, and didn't say it strongly.

Upon arrival at the inn, Hamish Markat gives instructions to everyone.

"Beginning tomorrow, we'll be camping! Check the horses, procure food, split the information gathering ahead of us and go! It's free time after that! You can stretch your wings, but don't take your wings off too much."

I hear and cheer that the mercenaries who grew up in the northern kingdom of Lax can leave the exotic city of Fosdale.

When the Rays finished taking care of the horses, they rolled out to the city.

By the time the Rays arrived in Fosdale, the Fourth Corps of the Imperial Army had arrived at Lark Hill, the main impulse in the western part of the Empire.

The Legion Leader is Count Adolf Rednap, who is also the housekeeper of the Duke of Ezarrington family, who took over the position of Legion Leader six years ago when the Duke of Alexis Ezarrington took office as Chancellor.

Behind him was Lucien Ezzarington, the second son of his home, following him. Lucien is a young man who has just turned twenty and is in the position of deputy commander of the Legion.

"Sir Legion Commander, where do you think the Holy King's Army is?

Lucien asks questions as he walks within the castle of Lark Hill.

"Probably, but I was wondering if it was around the time I left Paxlumen. Remember, the enemy is dominated by infantry, but for light clothing, the speed of travel is faster than you think."

Adolphe keeps Lucien's education together.

"So you think we should come around here by the end of the month?"

"Right. Then there is the possibility that the Third Legion, the Seventh Legion, will not make it. With that in mind, we have to decide on future policies."

"Are you saying we have to stop the Holy King's Army, which is said to be 200,000 just for the Lark Hill Regiment and the Fourth Regiment!

"You will. It would be helpful if the Third Legion alone were ahead of us, but it would be a critical place."

The Lark Hill Regiment is a defensive force here in Lark Hill, only two thousand men in size. Combined with the Fourth Regiment 20,000, it will only be 22,000, which is nearly ten times the difference in force.

Lucien had his face drawn to that fact.

"I'm not worried because Luke's peasant militia is the main force. I guess the only concern is that the Deputy Legion Leader of our Legion has too little experience. If the Deputy Legion Leader is solid, I can lead the cavalry and kick it."

The deputy commander of the Fourth Legion is Calvin, the second son of Uncle Rednap. A soldier who will be twenty-eight this year, not as inexperienced as Adolf says, but this will be the first time in terms of commanding an army and fighting.

What Adolf said is not grand language. Luke's peasant militia is just a miscellaneous soldier wearing crude spears and worn out leather armor, and not comparable to soldiers from a well-trained Regular Corps of Empires. Also, the Commander of the Holy King's Army is of low quality and, whatever the defensive battle, not capable enough to carry out an invasion operation.

Adolf had not spoken, but was feeling slightly uneasy.

(I've sent in all this great force this time of year. It's too creepy to use drugs that are “the blood of God of Light (Lucidus)”. Maybe there's some way... well, there won't be any miracles of God...)

Lucidus' blood is a kind of psychotropic drug that eliminates fear by taking it and turns it into a temporarily powerful soldier. The effect expires in a few hours, and after use there is a strong sense of vanity, making it difficult to use.

He knew the rumor that the priests of the Light Divinity were circulating “the miracle of God," but did not actually think that a miracle would happen and that it was a camouflage of some sort.

Upon confirmation of his defense policy at Lark Hill Castle, Adolf unleashed a scourge on Lukes.

But the scouts were hunted by Luke's trump card, the Beastman Slave Squad, and many did not return.

Adolphe gets emotions that resemble warfare on that fact.

In battlefields deep within enemy countries, scourge hunting by slave troops had been carried out, but never near the border.

(Not like before. What happens...)

While feeling anxious, Adolf orders the strengthening of his defensive facilities and is corrupt in building a complete system.

■ ■ ■

Time goes back a little.

August 1st.

A major outing ceremony was taking place in Paxlumen, the holy capital of Luke's Holy Kingdom.

There were as many as 150,000 soldiers in Paxlumen. With more citizens of the Holy City, there was no place to go in the Holy City, and soldiers were gathered in the suburban meadows.

On a platform about five m (melt) high stood the Archbishop General Bernardino Rolfo and Augustino, the Holy King, who consolidated himself in brilliant armor.

"Soldiers!

Rolfo's voice echoes the plain.

Behind him were about twenty light divine priests, kneeling and casting spells as they prayed. They were using one of the collective magic, the magic of loudness.

"The time has come! Finally, our God, the God of Light (Lucidus), has sent down a temple to destroy the wicked!

So I said, "God!!" "The voice goes up. This was planted by the priests, whose voices soon subsided.

"Follow the divine commission and drive away the heathens who call it the Caerm Empire! The Messenger of God will appear and empower the devout believers!

"" Ooh!! "" cheers up.

Keeping it down by opening both arms keeps the speech going again.

"This time as many as 200,000 devout sons of God go to jihad. This is comparable to the time of the founding of the Holy Kingdom. In other words, it will recreate the battle that drove our heathens out!

So I raise the volume of my voice.

"Praise God! Exterminate those who cannot believe in Lucidus, the only absolute God! Let's say it again! This is jihad! Obey God's will!

When Lorfo finished his speech, he told the plains, "" Kill the heathen! "" The call echoed.

It lasted more than three minutes and the soldier's excitement had reached its climax.

So the Holy King Augustino leaves one step ahead. And raise your arms to quell the excited soldiers.

"The rest have decided to take the lead in this jihad! As sons of God, just like you all!

"" Hail, Holy King!! "" cheers up.

Calming it down again,

"I'm optimistic about the rest. The Archbishop sent down the temple. Nothing to be anxious about! This battle was promised victory! Follow me! To make the world of God! Follow me! To bring peace to the world!

The soldiers are enthusiastic about the words of the Archbishop and the Holy King. But the charisma between the two didn't make them do that.

Besides those who use the magic of loudness, there was another group of people who use magic. It was cleverly placed, and the soldiers lay bare and invisible from the priests.

Those were the magical users of the dark attributes that are considered heretical in this country.

Dark Attribute Magic is said to be the evil magic used by the Demon Nation and is not inherently used in Luke's Holy Kingdom. However, as represented by the collar of slaves, Luke had not abandoned the usefulness of dark attribute magic.

For this reason, it will not appear on the table as a top-secret unit under the direct command of the Archbishop, and until now, it will only be used in the Chamber of Secrets, and will never be used in such a large-scale event.

This time they were used because they were in the trust.

Standing on Rolfo's dream pillow, Lucidus not only allowed dark attribute magic to be used for victory, but suggested it be used aggressively. Lorfo used the dark attribute magician without questioning the word of God.

But not all Holy Kingdom officials were enthusiastic.

Officials of the Holy King's Palace, the administrative government, were looking at this sight in a far-sighted fashion.

The officials, who are also realists, were experiencing a difference in national power from the Caerm Empire, and thought that no matter how the commissioning came down, they could not win the empire.

For this reason, although I did not stand out and disagree, I plan to do savotage in various ways and delay the opening of the war.

But it did not come true to stop the outrage of invasion of the Empire, as the Holy King, the head of the Holy King's Palace, was actively in favour and more heartfelt officials were being expelled in a coup d 'état seven years ago.

At the end of the Holy King's speech, the Holy King's Army began marching.

Many carriers accompany the infantry, the peasant militia, because it is dominated by a huge quantity of supplies to operate such a large army.

Still, the daily travel distance continued northwards at a sufficiently fast rate as an infantry at 25 km (Kimmel).

For this reason, on August 15th, he arrived in the northern city of Abadzac.

That number was in excess of 200,000 because of the addition of new soldiers along the way.

Where a war had become inevitable, the officials of the Holy King's Palace took all possible measures to win. One of them was the massive input of the Beastman Slave Squad.

He had lost many beastly slaves in the battle seven years ago and had not yet fully recovered, but he mobilized even young slaves still in training to thoroughly hunt for scouts near the border. As a result, the Imperial Army was unable to know the status of the Holy King.

Two hundred thousand large armies were approaching imperial territory.
