Chapter 416 - 391: Highest-Level Authority Holder
’Who could it be?’
’The so-called Undersea People?’

Shen Feng had heard Witch Tower say that when the war between humanity and the World Beasts reached a fever pitch, just as all of Earth’s continents were about to be submerged, a small group of people chose to withdraw from the conflict. They adapted to the environment and went to live under the sea.
It was said that these people went all-in on the underwater survival tech tree, even altering parts of their own genes. They also built some extremely pressure-resistant undersea Shelters, becoming the legendary Undersea People.
The survivors of Water World, including the Minstrel, Witch Tower, had mostly only heard legends of the Undersea People; none had ever seen one in person.
’Could these Undersea People have used humanity’s former cities to establish a new civilization?’
Shen Feng was puzzled, his curiosity thoroughly piqued.
’But no matter how I look at it, that doesn’t add up. After being submerged, these underwater buildings would have long since become dangerously unstable structures. It’s a miracle they haven’t already collapsed under the immense water pressure—how could they possibly be reused?’
With this thought, Shen Feng swam directly out of the cockpit of the Oglala Mad Horse War Armor and headed down toward the submerged city of San Francisco.
His flashlight was completely dead, and the Energy Concentration Cannon he had been using for light was now extinguished. The entire seabed was pitch-black, with only a single point of light from a building in the undersea city standing out like a beacon, guiding Shen Feng forward.
From above, he could faintly make out the silhouette of San Francisco. Swimming down into the city now, he felt a surreal sensation, as if he were flying down from the sky.
As he drew near the illuminated building, his surroundings became a little clearer.
The city’s billboards had not yet completely faded, and cars were still parked on the roadside. All sorts of human-made objects rested quietly, as if everything had been frozen in time.
On some of the large rooftop billboards, there were posters for *Pacific Rim 18*. Apparently, the appearance of the World Beasts had led humanity to re-evaluate the film *Pacific Rim*, making sequels all the way to the eighteenth installment.
Other billboards featured campaign posters for President Trump, who had been re-elected for six consecutive terms under the wartime system. The list went on.
If not for the thick layers of seabed silt and the marks left by marine life, one might have thought the city had simply fallen asleep for the night, ready to reawaken the next day.
Shen Feng quickly drifted before the window of the glowing building. He pulled a dagger from his waist and held it before his chest. At the same time, he put the Quantum Force Field Core back in his mouth to prevent its faint blue glow from attracting any hidden enemies. Only then did he carefully inspect the window.
The entire building was somewhat pyramid-shaped—a unique design. It was clearly much sturdier than the surrounding structures and even had a distinct cast-metal shell.
Aside from the light shining from the small window not far ahead, all the other densely packed windows of the building were completely dark, like the cells of a dead beehive.
Shen Feng seemed especially tiny before this edifice; only the soft glow from the window ahead offered any reassurance.
After a moment of observation, Shen Feng made a quick judgment. ’This building is probably some kind of research facility. Its unique design is clearly meant to withstand powerful impacts.’
’At the very least, it was built after the World Beasts appeared.’
’And that glowing window must belong to some kind of special lab.’
After all, he had seen plenty of places like virology labs before and was quite familiar with this type of construction.
’The light has a similar feel to a Fusion Reactor.’
’For it to still have power after so many years underwater, the only possible sources are tidal energy or a Fusion Reactor.’
At this thought, Shen Feng immediately swam forward, came to the window, and peered inside.
To his surprise, he saw a drainage tunnel. It was completely free of seawater and looked exceptionally dry.
The soft light was coming from the other end of the tunnel.
The exterior was a special, pressure-resistant glass. It seemed whoever designed this building had already anticipated that it would one day sink to the bottom of the sea.
’This stuff is definitely way stronger than bulletproof glass. Ordinary explosives probably couldn’t even scratch it. The dagger in my hand is useless.’
Shen Feng took the Quantum Force Field Core from his mouth, preparing to use meditation to shatter the glass.
However, he was in a high-pressure, deep-sea environment. If he were to use the Quantum Force Field Core to turn the glass into a fragile quantum state, the immense pressure would cause water to rush in and destroy everything inside.
As he was struggling with this dilemma, a green light suddenly flashed from within the window, scanning his pupils and face.
The next moment, the sturdy window before him trembled slightly, then suddenly swung inward!
Seawater surged in. The powerful suction created by the pressure difference immediately pulled Shen Feng inside, flooding the tunnel.
The glass door behind him immediately swung shut. He heard the RUMBLE of drainage, and the water level in the tunnel dropped rapidly. Soon, the seawater was completely evacuated. Hot air then gusted from vents, quickly drying his body and making him feel much more comfortable.
He glanced around, taking in his surroundings, when another green light swept over him. A synthesized electronic voice spoke:
"Identity and authorization confirmed... Highest-level clearance holder. Full access to all facilities granted."
Hearing these words, the question in Shen Feng’s mind was instantly answered. A smile played on his lips as he strode forward.
He was the highest-level clearance holder for this facility, so the identity of the building’s creator was self-evident.
It was his other self from the Water World Apocalypse.
The Shen Feng who had led a fleet loaded with Super Hydrogen Bombs through an undersea Wormhole to the World Beast Star Realm.
This was why the glass door had suddenly opened and let him in.
After all, he had built this place.
Although he had met other versions of himself from Parallel Worlds during other apocalyptic missions, Shen Feng had never expected to intersect with his "self" in Water World in this manner. Unable to hide his excitement, he quickly reached the exit of the drainage tunnel.
The sealed door at the end of the tunnel swung open, and the synthesized electronic voice sounded again:
"Welcome back. It has been two hundred thirty-nine years, fifty-seven days, thirteen hours, forty-two minutes, and fifty-one seconds since your last departure."
Shen Feng nodded slightly and strode through the passageway. What greeted him was a space resembling a command center. It was surrounded by rows of electronic screens that were still running and flashing; some seemed to still be calculating numbers, while only a few were completely black and dead.
In front of these screens were several large chairs. Seated upright in them were human skeletons.
It was as if it had all happened yesterday.
