Chapter 1643: Stay with Me Tonight
She quickly opened the red envelope in front of him and took out a card, looking at him somewhat surprised, "What are you doing?"
Nathan Mills said to her, "This is all my personal money, and I’m giving it to you to manage from now on."
"I won’t accept it." She hurriedly put the card back into the red envelope and returned it to him as if it were scorching hot, "This is unnecessary. Even if we’re planning to start over, I hope we remain independent individuals. I don’t want anything from you."
Hearing what she said, Nathan Mills felt disheartened and looked at her in frustration, "Carlotta, you don’t understand my intention. I can only feel at ease if I give you this money. I’m not doing this just to please you; I know you don’t lack anything."
"..." Carlotta Sterling blinked and looked away, still resistant inside.
"Just accept it. The password is your birthday. You can choose not to spend it, but you have to keep it." He placed the red envelope back in her hand again, "We’re planning to get remarried, so why keep such distance?"
Her attitude made him anxious, as if he was about to lose something.
Carlotta realized he was sincere and knew that if she didn’t accept it, he would be too anxious to sleep and his mind would race.
Under Old Mills’ persistent persuading, she finally reluctantly accepted it, "Then I’ll keep it for you, but I won’t touch the money inside."
Nathan Mills didn’t pressure her; everything needed to be done step by step.
By this time, both of them were starting to feel sleepy.
They really talked a lot tonight.
And Old Mills never mentioned leaving, nor did Carlotta issue an eviction order. This was his house, after all.
"I think..." Nathan Mills glanced toward the yard, speaking up, "Janelle and Trevor won’t be coming back tonight, right?"
Although Carlotta didn’t allow cohabitation before marriage, tonight she actually didn’t hope they would return.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Nathan Mills tentatively spoke again, "Maybe I should... stay with you tonight? The electricity has been quite unstable lately, and there was another blackout in Area B last night due to maintenance."
He knew she was afraid of the dark, the kind of person who needed a nightlight on even while sleeping.
Carlotta looked a bit embarrassed and avoided his gaze, leaning forward to pick up her teacup, silently sipping some slightly cold Pu’er tea.
And Nathan Mills understood her pride; her heart was no longer against him, which made him quite happy.
"Carlotta, it’s getting late. Shall we go upstairs?" Old Mills tried asking, his observing gaze always on her face.
Carlotta had become much softer, putting away all her previous sharpness.
"Mm." She responded softly, setting down her teacup and getting up to head upstairs.
Old Mills was simply overjoyed inside! But of course, he didn’t show it too obviously and got up to follow her up.
On a small hillside in a certain park.
Trevor hugged Janelle from behind, and after a kiss, they nestled together watching the romantic fireworks.
One blossom exploded after another, becoming more and more brilliant.
"Janelle, come home with me tonight? Let’s not disturb Old Mills and Sister Sterling." Trevor suggested, "You see, your phone hasn’t rung at this hour, which means they’re not really expecting you back, and maybe they don’t want you back either."
"Stay at your place?" Janelle Mills turned her eyes to look at him.
"Yeah, I have a lot of guest rooms at my place; you can choose whichever you like." He respected her a lot and had no ulterior motives, just wanting to give the elders some space.
