Chapter 1641: Let’s Remarry
"Carlotta." Nathan Mills watched her accept the roses, and he secretly let out a breath of relief. This meant she was trying to accept him, right?
At least she wasn’t as resistant as before; back then, whenever he called Janelle, she would snatch the phone right out of his hand.
Tonight, their relationship had taken a big step forward.
For Nathan Mills, the tension that had been building up all day eased a lot; he sat down beside her.
With just a little bit of distance between them, Carlotta Sterling didn’t show any sign of rejection.
"I know...it was my fault that this moment got delayed until now." Nathan Mills was deeply remorseful. "There were countless times I wanted to go to Korland to find you two."
Her chest tightened; waves rose in Carlotta’s heart.
All these years, she’d been waiting for him...so much so that she never even changed her phone number.
"But back then..." Old Mills thought of the past, and his mood inevitably grew heavy. "Back then, even though I’d already bought the plane ticket and thought about a lot of things, in the end I still couldn’t take that step."
Why was that? As a woman who had waited so long, she really wanted to know the reason.
Nathan Mills gave her an apologetic look. "Because I felt that the way I was then...I couldn’t give you a better life."
Their eyes met; his guilt made her feel even worse. She forced herself to push down the emotions churning in her heart.
"So all these years, I’ve been working hard—working hard to run the company well, working hard to improve my temper and personality, and I even studied cooking."
Carlotta could feel how serious and earnest he was tonight. Listening to his familiar voice, meeting his gaze, memories suddenly surged like a tide, filling her heart with a genuine warmth.
All the barriers vanished in an instant.
"Carlotta, I won’t say a bunch of useless stuff. Let’s start over. Let’s get remarried!"
Nathan Mills mustered his courage and looked at her with deep affection. "Let’s be a little braver, a little more mature, and not miss each other again."
"Nathan..." Carlotta was very moved; there were so many things she wanted to say in this moment, but she felt her vision start to blur with gathering mist.
The emotions in her heart piled up..."I..."
"Carlotta." Afraid she would turn him down, Nathan Mills couldn’t help but hold her hand, looking at her with both sincerity and courage. "We’re never going to be younger than we were yesterday. Give me a chance. From now on, for the little things, you can throw all the tantrums you want; for the big things, you can stand behind me."
It was that line that completely broke through the defenses of the heart Carlotta had been guarding for so long.
She tried hard to suppress the swell of emotion inside, but a crystal tear still slipped out by accident.
"Don’t cry." His heart ached terribly. He took the roses from her hands and set them on the coffee table, then pulled her into his arms. "I get how you feel. Come here, let me hold you. Don’t cry."
Nathan Mills didn’t feel happy at all; he felt his guilt was immense, and he couldn’t bear to see her shed tears.
"Nathan..." Proud Carlotta wrapped her arms around his waist, her voice trembling. "Nathan..."
The warmth budding in her heart finally let Old Mills feel her in his embrace, and emotion and tears flooded out together.
Right then, the two of them in the theater were nestled together, wrapped up in tender affection.
Janelle leaned against Trevor’s shoulder, and Trevor popped popcorn into her mouth one kernel after another, just like he was feeding a little pet of his.
It was a love story tinged with regret; two people who had once been in love ultimately missed each other because of all kinds of misunderstandings.
Watching it left Janelle Mills in a bad mood, a bit melancholy and depressed.
After they walked out of the theater, Trevor said to her, "We need to learn from other people’s experiences. From now on, no matter how much we argue or fight, neither of us is allowed to bring up breaking up."
