Chapter 736 - 737: Risking Life for Money
Lin Kuang frowned and glanced at his phone. The screen showed another unknown number, different from the last one. He answered again, "Hello?"
"Hello, Mr. Lin. I am the head of the Wumi Building in New York. My name is Zhang Tianshun," a respectful voice said from the other end of the line.
"Ah, Mr. Zhang," Lin Kuang nodded. "Is there any progress?"
"Yes, we’ve found something. I have all of Song Yao’s information right here. Should I send it to you now?" Zhang Tianshun asked.
"No need. I want you to check something else for me: who she has been in contact with recently, and if any of those people are connected to the Fan Family. That’s what I really want. Find that out for me; I hope to have an answer as soon as possible," Lin Kuang said.
"Understood. Please wait a moment. I’ll have someone investigate immediately. I’ll call you back as soon as we have news," Zhang Tianshun replied quickly.
"Alright. Thank you for your trouble, Mr. Zhang. I’ll be waiting for your call," Lin Kuang said. Zhang Tianshun agreed, and they both hung up.
After ending the call, Lin Kuang walked back into the office. Inside, Song Yao and Lin Guo’er were discussing company business. Lin Kuang said nothing, simply taking a seat to the side to wait for Zhang Tianshun’s call.
Soon, it was time to leave work. The three of them packed up and left the company.
"Ladies, allow me to treat you to a welcome dinner tonight," Song Yao said with a smile as they stepped out of the building.
Neither Lin Kuang nor Lin Guo’er objected. They got right into Song Yao’s car and followed her.
Just as Lin Kuang settled into his seat, his phone rang again. It was Zhang Tianshun. Lin Kuang quickly answered, "Hello."
"Mr. Lin, we’ve found something. A little over ten days ago, Song Yao was in contact with an American named John, who is the Fan Family’s head of operations in New York. We also discovered that a sum of tens of millions of US dollars had appeared in her account out of nowhere," Zhang Tianshun reported quickly.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang sneered internally. So Song Yao really is the problem!
"Good, I understand. Is there anything else?" he asked.
"Yes, one more thing. Just a short while ago, the Fan Family’s people in New York began to move. They’re all rushing to the Warner Capital Hotel, seemingly preparing for something. According to our intelligence, the Fan Family wants to deal with you. I believe their current actions are also targeted at you," Zhang Tianshun added.
Lin Kuang’s eyes narrowed slightly. The situation had become crystal clear. The Fan Family had laid an ambush at the Warner Capital Hotel, and Song Yao was taking him and Lin Guo’er to dinner. If he wasn’t mistaken, she was taking them directly to that very hotel. Once there, the Fan Family could make their move, and Song Yao’s mission would be complete.
It seems the whole story about suppressing the company was just a ploy to lure me to New York. Song Yao took their money to lead me straight to the Warner Capital Hotel. That’s pretty much the long and short of it, Lin Kuang thought.
"Alright, I understand. How strong are they?" Lin Kuang asked.
"Their leader is a master at the Three Flowers Gathering at the Top stage. There are also two masters at the Skyline stage," Zhang Tianshun reported.
Lin Kuang’s brow furrowed. As he was now, he was no match for a master of the Three Flowers Gathering at the Top; he had no chance of winning.
It looks like the Fan Family really wants to annihilate me in one fell swoop this time! Tsk tsk, a master of the Three Flowers Gathering at the Top, you say? You’re just destined to come up empty-handed today, he mused.
"Alright, Mr. Zhang, I understand. Let’s leave it at that for now. I’ll call you if anything else comes up," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
"Of course. If you need anything, just give the order. We still have some people available here," Zhang Tianshun offered.
"Okay. Goodbye for now," Lin Kuang said with a smile, then hung up the phone.
Looking at Song Yao in the driver’s seat, Lin Kuang asked with a smile, "Ms. Song, are we going to the Warner Capital Hotel?"
"Yes, that’s right... huh? You... how did you know that?" Song Yao stammered as the realization hit her. Her charming face turned deathly pale, her eyes wide with panic.
"I have my methods, so of course, I would know. Not only do I know you’re taking us to the Warner Capital Hotel, I also know about John. And I know that a few days ago, a sum of several tens of millions of dollars suddenly appeared in your account. Am I right, Ms. Song?" Lin Kuang said, his smile unwavering.
At his words, Song Yao was completely dumbfounded. She slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road. She never expected Lin Kuang to uncover so much so soon after his arrival! In that instant, she knew she was completely exposed. The plan she had arranged with John had totally collapsed.
With that thought, Song Yao gritted her teeth. She suddenly whipped out a delicate handgun from under her seat and pointed it straight at Lin Kuang’s head.
"Lin Kuang, you forced my hand! You made me do this!" Song Yao’s voice trembled as she spoke, and her hand was shaking, a clear sign of her inner terror.
At that moment, Lin Guo’er also understood what was happening: Song Yao was the mole! Lin Guo’er wasn’t a fool; how could she not understand by now? Seeing Song Yao pull out a gun, however, still gave her a fright, and her pretty face turned ashen.
"Song Yao, put the gun down! Killing someone is illegal!" Lin Guo’er couldn’t help but cry out.
"Illegal? Haha, Ms. Lin, don’t be so naive. I’ve already broken the law! I thought that once I delivered you two to the Warner Capital Hotel, I’d be clear of all this. But this Lin Kuang managed to uncover so much... it’s truly astonishing. Since things have come to this, I’ll just have to send you on your way. Ms. Lin, don’t blame me. If you have to blame someone, blame Lin Kuang. It’s your own fault for coming with him," Song Yao said with a cold laugh. Her beautiful face twisted into a ferocious expression, no longer lovely, but frightening.
"People will truly abandon their moral compass for profit. Does someone like that even deserve to be called human? Song Yao, tell me, do you?" Lin Kuang said coolly, unfazed by the gun pointed at him.
At his words, Song Yao’s distorted expression grew even uglier. "Lin Kuang, spare me your sermon! What do people live for, if not for money? John gave me fifty million US dollars! Do you have any idea what that means? It’s enough to last a lifetime, even several lifetimes!"
