Chapter 218: A Theme for the Night

The clock embedded in the wall hummed softly as the numbers flipped over to two in the morning. Jannah was curled up on her side, deep in a restless slumber, when a hand gently shook her shoulder.

"Wake up, little physician," Dorrent’s low baritone rumbled through the quiet, dark room, carrying a quiet edge of suppressed energy. "It’s time. I’m ready to take you out on a date."

Jannah let out a miserable, breathy groan, burying her face deeper into the plush pillow. "Go away, Dorrent..." she muttered sleepily, her voice thick and raspy. "It’s past two in the morning... Are you insane?"

"I promised you a date, and I never break my word," Dorrent delivered firmly, grabbing the edge of her blanket and pulling it back just enough to expose her upper body. "Get up."

Irritation flared instantly in her chest. Jannah violently snapped around onto her back, ready to unleash a barrage of bitter curses at him for waking her up in the middle of the night. But the second her eyes landed on the towering figure standing beside the bed, the harsh insults completely froze in her throat.

Dorrent was not wearing his usual tailored suits. He wasn’t even wearing his casual silk button-downs.

Instead, he was dressed in a pair of sweatpants that hung dangerously low on his hip bones, revealing the prominent, cut lines of his V-taper. Hugging his broad torso was a form-fitting, sleeveless black tank top made of thin, rib-knit cotton. The tight fabric clung ruthlessly to his body, emphasizing every single ripple of his massive, sculpted chest muscles, his bulging biceps, and the thick, vascular veins coursing down his long arms. The low-cut neckline exposed a vast, broad expanse of his chest, showcasing his golden-toned skin and the hard, terrifyingly masculine structure of his frame.

Jannah’s breath hitched. Her eyes widened, staring unblinkingly at the raw, unrefined, and ridiculously athletic vision standing before her. She had never seen him dressed like this—so effortlessly casual, yet radiating such a feral, overpowering physical appeal that it felt almost illegal.

A sudden, intense wave of heat rushed straight from her core up to her face, turning her cheeks a fiery, burning crimson. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird.

Damn!... Jannah screamed inwardly, her mind frantically spiraling as her eyes involuntarily traced the cut of his shoulder muscles down to his broad chest. Curse this insufferable monster! How the hell can a person look this infuriatingly hot in a damn tank top?!

Dorrent’s sharp eyes caught every single nuance of her reaction. He saw the way her irises dilated, the way her pupils swept helplessly over his bare shoulders and chest, and the telltale flutter of her rapid breathing. A slow, supremely arrogant, and wicked smirk curled up the side of his handsome face.

"Admiring your husband, little physician?" Dorrent purred low, his voice carrying a dark, amused rumble that sent an unwanted shiver straight down her spine.

The sound of his voice snapped Jannah right out of her hypnotic daze. Realizing she had been caught dead-staring at his body like a starved fool, her blood boiled with embarrassment. She quickly sat up, pulling the blanket around her chest to hide her burning face as she glared up at him through her lashes.

"Why the hell are you dressed like that?!" Jannah hissed angrily, her voice trembling slightly from her racing pulse. "Are you going around trying to show off your body to the entire city?! Have you lost your mind?!"

Dorrent chuckled smoothly, taking a slow step closer to the edge of the bed. He tossed a luxurious gift box on the bed.

"Stop complaining when you were practically drooling over me just a few seconds ago," Dorrent mocked lightly, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Open it. It’s for you."

Jannah’s jaw tightened, her pride flaring up twice as hard at his teasing tone. "You can go out completely naked for all I care, Alpha Grefo!" she snapped back bitterly, shoving the blanket aside. "Let people look at you however much they want! See if I give a damn!"

"I won’t do that," Dorrent countered calmly, leaning down slightly so his shadow completely enveloped her frame. "Because I only like you to see me naked. Not any other person."

Jannah’s tongue froze. Her face burned so hot she felt as though her skin might melt right off her bones. The explicit, nonchalant certainty with which he uttered those absurdly possessive words made her heart do a violent, traitorous somersault.

She quickly looked down at the box on the bed to escape his intense gaze, clearing her throat to hide her flustered state. "Who the hell goes on a late-night date dressed in sweatpants and a tank top anyway?" she muttered defensively. "It’s ridiculous."

"It matches the theme and the place I am taking you to for our date," Dorrent explained, his baritone dropping into a quiet, mysterious register. "Now stop wasting time and check the gift."

Jannah scoffed, her fingers reaching out to unlatch the box. "I hope it’s not some ridiculous, embarrassing gift..." she grumbled under her breath.

She lifted the lid. Inside lay a piece of clothing crafted from a rare, liquid-like deep emerald silk, accompanied by a pair of delicate, custom-designed leather flat shoes.

Jannah reached down and lifted the dress out of the box, holding it up before her eyes. The moment the fabric unfurled, her brow furrowed in horror and bewilderment.

It was undeniably expensive, a masterpiece of high-end tailoring—yet structurally, it looked like an absolute disaster to navigate. The dress was a intricate mesh of crisscrossing silk bands, hidden internal stays, complex side-zippers, and delicate back-ties that intertwined in such a complicated manner that it looked entirely impossible for a person to put on alone without an army of assistants.

Worse yet, the fabric was impossibly thin, feeling like a whisper of air between her fingers.

Jannah looked from the complicated silk disaster in her hands up to Dorrent’s unyielding face, her jaw dropping in sheer disbelief. "Do you honestly expect me to wear this?!" she demanded, holding the dress out toward him.

"Yes," Dorrent replied smoothly, resting his hands casually on his hips.

"It is way too thin!" Jannah yelled softly, her eyes flashing with indignance. "How am I even supposed to fit into something this narrow?! It looks like it was made for a doll!"

"Come on, Jannah," Dorrent reasoned, a subtle smirk playing on his lips. "It stretches. It’s designed to mold specifically to the wearer’s exact frame."

Jannah turned the dress around in her hands to inspect the rear, only for her eyes to widen in shock. The entire back was completely non-existent. The dress plunged into a sweeping, dangerous drop that stopped well below the small of the back, held together by nothing more than thin, micro-silk strings meant to tie around the spine.

She shoved the dress back onto the bed, staring at him with pure fury. "There is NO WAY in hell you expect me to wear that out!" Jannah declared firmly, crossing her arms over her chest. "It is going to completely outline every single curve of my body! I don’t like that!"

Dorrent’s eyes darkened slightly as he scanned her rigid posture. "You have a great body, Jannah," he said softly, his voice carrying a thick, possessive weight. "Showing off a little bit of what belongs to me is not a bad thing."

Jannah scoffed loudly, her temper flaring. "Oh, really?! If you want me to show people my body so damn much, why didn’t you just bring me a bikini instead?!"
