Chapter 63: [63]: The Chained God’s Wrath, Chains of the Abyss

The holographic timer floating in Levi’s peripheral vision ticked down relentlessly.

[03:00]

Levi didn’t stop swinging. His 176 Speed made his arms a total blur. He carved into the massive obsidian ankle of Valdor The Chained over and over again, dropping the World Boss’s massive health pool right down to exactly 1,000,000 HP.

The second the health bar hit the one-million mark, the entire dynamic of the fight violently shifted.

Valdor didn’t just stagger this time. The fifty-foot titan stood straight up and threw its arms wide open. A deafening, metallic shriek echoed across the Searing Crater. The massive, glowing magical chains binding the boss’s arms and chest suddenly began to crack.

With an explosion of liquid fire and dark magic, the chains completely shattered.

A massive system warning flashed aggressively across Levi’s vision.

[Warning: Valdor The Chained has entered Phase Two.]

[Attack increased by 20%.]

"You have got to be kidding me," Levi grunted, dodging backward to avoid the falling chunks of broken chains.

Valdor’s base Attack was 2,500. A 20% increase meant the boss was now hitting for a staggering 3,000 Attack! If that thing touched a normal player, their avatar would probably be deleted so hard they’d have to reinstall the game.

Valdor didn’t bother using its fists anymore. The boss raised both of its newly freed hands toward the smoky sky. The dark magic that had been binding it surged outward, forming dozens of massive, jagged iron chains floating in the air.

[Warning: Valdor is casting Chains of the Abyss.]

The giant chains didn’t just drop randomly. They moved like heat-seeking missiles, instantly locking onto Levi.

Levi checked his mana pool. He was sitting on fumes. Between spamming Phantom Step to dodge the magma waves and keeping Hollow’s Guillotine active to shred the boss’s armor, his 560 Max Mana was completely tapped out.

"Not today," Levi said.

He reached down to his quick-belt, popped the cork off a top-tier Greater Mana Potion, and chugged the bitter blue liquid. His fuel tank instantly shot back up to a perfect 560/560.

The first Abyssal Chain shot down from the sky, aiming directly for his skull.

"Phantom Step!"

The massive chain slammed into the iron platform exactly where he had just been standing, completely shattering the thick metal grates.

He reappeared five meters to the right, but he didn’t even have time to breathe. Three more chains whipped toward him from different angles.

He burned another 20 Mana. He blinked again.

The fight turned into a frantic, apocalyptic blur. Levi was teleporting wildly across the platform, his 176 Speed pushed to the absolute breaking point. He weaved his avatar between the massive iron links, sliding under one chain and popping back up to sprint past another.

He couldn’t just play defense. The timer was still ticking. He needed to keep his damage output going.

He dashed right under the boss’s legs.

"Hollow’s Guillotine!"

He swung the Gold-tier scythe upward, letting the 3.5 multiplier and his absurd 2,980 Total Attack carve into the titan’s thigh. The 20% armor-shred debuff refreshed, dropping Valdor’s Defense back down to 960. He weaved his basic strikes constantly, letting the massive 2,020 damage numbers fill his screen.

But dealing with the homing chains while managing his DPS rotation was too much to juggle perfectly.

A fourth chain whipped around the boss’s ankle in a blind spot. Levi couldn’t trigger his Phantom Step fast enough. He threw his shoulder up, twisting his torso to avoid taking the hit straight to the chest.

The heavy iron chain grazed his left shoulder.

The VR pain engine flared to life, sending a massive, blunt-force shockwave through his entire virtual body. The impact threw him sideways, his boots skidding across the hot iron floor.

The system calculated for the hit instantly.

Valdor’s new Attack was 3,000. Because Levi managed to turn it into a glancing blow, the incoming damage was cut in half, dropping to 1,500.

Levi’s Defense was sitting at 128.

[-1,372]

Levi’s health bar plummeted from a perfect 2,060 down to a miserable 688 HP.

"That actually hurt," Levi hissed through his teeth, stumbling slightly as the hit-stun animation resolved.

If he took one more hit like that, he was dead. The 5-minute Diamond buff would be entirely wasted, and the server would get wiped.

But Levi didn’t panic. He didn’t run away to drink a health potion. He relied entirely on his completely broken weapon passive.

He sprinted right back into the boss’s hitbox. He swung the Sovereign’s Deathknell in a wide, horizontal basic attack.

[-2,020]

The 10% Lifesteal passive triggered the exact millisecond the scythe connected.

A bright green [+202] floated up from his avatar. His health jumped from 688 to 890.

Because his Agility was sitting at 156, his attack speed was a total joke. He didn’t just swing once. He brought the heavy blade back around in a continuous figure-eight motion. He landed three more basic strikes in the exact same second.

[-2,020] [-2,020] [-2,020]

[+202] [+202] [+202]

His health bar instantly violently spiked from 890 right back up to a perfect 2,060/2,060.

"I am a literal vampire," Levi laughed loudly over the sound of the crashing chains. "You can’t out-damage my lifesteal!"

He completely ignored his health bar after that. As long as he didn’t take a direct, unmitigated hit for 3,000 damage, he was functionally immortal.

Up on the crater’s rim, the surviving players weren’t just watching anymore. The sheer scale of what was happening had completely broken their brains. Several players from the top guilds had pulled up the game’s built-in recording feature and were live-streaming the fight directly to the real-world internet.

Gideon, the massive tank player from Ironclad, was sitting on a rock, staring at the boss’s health bar.

"He’s healing himself," Gideon said, his voice completely flat with disbelief. "The boss just hit him for over a thousand damage, and he healed to full in one second. He doesn’t even have a cleric."

"Look at his damage numbers," Ovidia muttered, standing next to him. Her arrogant sneer was completely gone. "He’s hitting for two thousand a swing. The suppression penalty isn’t even applying to him."

Millions of people in the real world were currently watching the stream. A completely unknown solo player wearing pitch-black armor was treating a Level 40 World Boss like a training dummy. The chat logs were moving so fast they were just a solid blur of text. People were accusing him of being an admin, a hacker, or a rogue developer.

Levi didn’t give a damn about the internet. He was completely dialed in.

The grueling combat loop continued. He recast Hollow’s Guillotine exactly every five seconds to make absolutely sure the 20% armor-shred debuff never dropped off the boss. He burned through mana potions, spammed Phantom Step to avoid the homing chains, and hacked relentlessly at the titan’s obsidian legs.

The physical exhaustion inside the NerveDive helmet was reaching critical mass. His real-world chest was heaving. He was sweating so much it was starting to sting his eyes. But he didn’t miss a single beat.

Valdor’s health bar was melting under the 8,000 DPS onslaught.

800,000. 500,000. 300,000.

The holographic timer floating in his vision ticked down mercilessly.

[00:45] [00:40] [00:35]

At exactly [00:30], Valdor The Chained stopped attacking.

The massive chains floating in the air completely dissolved into smoke. The boss’s health bar hit exactly 200,000.

The titan raised both of its massive arms, ignoring Levi entirely, and let out a roar that physically pushed the clouds of smoke away from the center of the crater.

The final phase had just begun.
