Chapter 231: Last Ditch Attack?
We were brought to another hotel which was more like a couple of semi-detached houses that was converted to a resort near Bondi beach.
The houses were painted with rather glaring colours and it felt like a crime in and of itself to see them painted in such colours.
There were four of these houses with three of them being used by each Mortal God and the last one being occupied by a support team consisting of our representatives and security personnel.
Thankfully, I got the house that was painted white instead of the lime green or the pink one... Not that I really had a problem with it of course, just that I’d rather not.
The place was definitely not as luxurious or classy as the hotel since it’s really just a normal house with most of the rooms turned into bedrooms and a common living room with a back garden.
There were five bedrooms in total with one ensuite bedroom that was given to me while my other Guardians split themselves up with the other rooms.
One of the bedrooms featured two bunk beds which the guys took over and the girls split up into pairs for the other three rooms.
We’re not expecting to stay here for long since we only need to make sure that the League of Mortals aren’t planning any other assassination attempts before we decide to leave the country.
The first night there passed quite uneventfully.
And by ’uneventfully’, I meant that Olivia, Ava, Jia Lian, Leena, Siti and Diana all came over to my room to have a sleepover.
Which ended up in a group orgy in my soul space where I basically pleasure them the entire night until they were satisfied.
On the plus side, we would basically be allowed to go out and explore the city if we go incognito so we don’t need to worry about being stuck here, or inside my soul space.
Incidentally, we had arrived under the cover of being work colleagues here for a vacation so we just needed to act that part while we were interacting with each other in public.
One of the biggest bummers here was that none of us were expecting to hit the beach so no one brought any beachwear for a day at the beach.
Still, that didn’t stop us from just taking a stroll along the coast while dressed in casual clothes right before sunrise.
I sure hope our massive group of almost twenty people don’t attract too much attention... Especially since our group has so many other worlders...
Yeah, I’d rather not think about it... Because I’m pretty sure this group sticks out like a sore thumb and anyone who is at least smart enough would probably figure out that this group was definitely not normal.
If there were any people related to that terrorist group, they would probably have us flagged within the day so I don’t even think this plan of hiding us would even work.
The thing was... I have a sneaking suspicion that that was precisely what they were after because I noticed that the neighbours around us had suddenly disappeared in the morning, like they had all collectively decided to vacate their homes all at the same time.
I have no doubt it’s due to the Rift Management Bureau knocking on their doors and relocating them somewhere else in case this area becomes a warzone.
So maybe they placed us here expecting the terrorists to hit us again and laid a trap to get them all?
At least, that’s what I hope they were trying to do...
Maybe that’s why they spent so long talking to my Guardians yesterday so that they are aware of the plan or something while Siti, Diana and myself are kept out of it.
I’m not sure why exactly they would do that but I’m going to assume that it’s probably something like all of them figuring out that involving the Mortal Gods in this would endanger us or this was something that was beneath us.
Or... Maybe even both, I dunno.
I could think about all the conspiracy theories for this arrangement but right now... I just want to enjoy the beach and my downtime where I didn’t need to sit at a table and listen to some politicians yap about political agreements.
I stood at the edge of where the sea washed on the shore, looking out into the distance as the sun started to rise from the horizon and paint the sky with the warm colours of dawn.
To my left and right were the two Mortal Goddesses and right behind me were my Guardians, all of us just basking in the warmth of the morning sun as it appeared over the sea.
This feels nice. No politics, no rifts, no Anomalies...
I sucked in a deep breath and smelt the salt of the sea, something that I have come to associate with Diana since that’s also what she smelt like, ironically.
"This is nice," Siti muttered, mirroring my thoughts.
Diana nodded, "Agreed. We should do this more often. You know, you two should come and visit or something. It’s more fun when there’s more people around."
I was just about to open my mouth to speak when the sound of screeching tires came from behind and all of us turned to see several cars speeding through the carpark above the beach.
The lead car rammed through the guardrails separating the beach from the asphalt, allowing the rest of the cars behind it to fly through behind it.
Are you seriously kidding me right now?!
The passenger window of the lead car winds down and a guy pops out from it, sitting on the edge of the frame to raise his hand where a ball of fire was beginning to gather in his palm.
That was when a whistling sound could be heard from the side and a rocket came flying straight towards the lead car, exploding against it and sending the vehicle careening off to the side, flipping it over and over as it rolled on top of the sand.
I looked to the side to see the suit wearing dudes appear from their hiding spots, one of them still holding on to a smoking RPG launcher which he tossed aside to pull out a rifle from behind him.
A few of the cars continued to try rushing towards us while the others peeled away to head towards the group of suit people.
Fortunately for us, they don’t really get very far as one after the other, their cars lost their momentum and their vehicles grinded to a halt in the sand, their wheels doing nothing but churning up dust clouds while in the sand.
All of our Guardians moved as one, showing that they were definitely expecting something like this to happen since they were surprisingly coordinated with each other even though Siti, Diana nor myself had given them any orders.
The three of us just watched as our Guardians arranged themselves into a defensive formation in front of us while the people in the car climbed out.
Some of them were also carrying guns and they started firing at the suited guys while the others were unarmed and clearly power users.
The ones that looked unarmed started running towards us, one of them even flying up into the air before attempting to dive bomb towards us.
He didn’t really get very far because Leena took out a machine gun and fired at him, riddling him with bullets and showing that he was not bulletproof as he fell out of the sky to crash onto the ground.
The others behind him weren’t dissuaded by their comrade literally crashing down in front of them and continued to charge at us.
I think they figured out that they had been led into a trap and decided to just throw everything they had at us while hoping to somehow succeed anyway.
"Were you two aware of this?" I asked, leaning over to them.
The two Mortal Goddesses shook their heads, joining me to watch our Guardians hold their ground.
One of them tried to shoot a lightning bolt at us but Olivia countered with her own lightning bolt, completely consuming his lighting and striking the guy and the three men behind him in the blast.
Shadows and what looked like water spikes exploded out from the ground to pierce through some of them while metal balls and what looked like seed pellets flew towards the terrorists as well.
One guy suddenly expanded himself into a hulking mass of muscles and tanked through the hits but both Jia Lian and Dan leapt out and smashed their shields against him, stopping him in his tracks.
Liliac threw something to him and vines sprouted out around him to hold him in place, restraining him completely.
Kris then jumped out and raised his sword in the air before plummeting down like a comet, slicing his greatsword through the muscled guy and decapitating him.
And as though waiting for that moment, a hole opened in the air and an actual comet came flying through, courtesy of Ava’s magic.
All of us watched as the large rock smashed into the group of terrorists, flattening the survivors and turning them into meat paste.
Great... So... I hope that was the plan?
