Chapter 239: Little Sister Wants To Stay
Obviously I had to call our mother and tell her that Hui Zhen was actually working here in the end.
There was no way I was going to put myself in the line of fire of our mother’s ire for her.
Needless to say, she wasn’t exactly happy to hear that my sister basically tricked her into thinking that this was just a normal part time job at some normal company.
Still... She relented and decided it was better for her to be here than somewhere else and just told me to look out for her and keep her out of trouble.
I guess the fact that it’s still technically a desk job was what convinced her to let it go instead of chewing my sister out.
I agreed with her on the fact that it was better for her to be here at least so I decided I wouldn’t give her too hard of a time and just accepted this as the new reality.
Although she did say that she wanted to have a talk with her at home after this.
My gaze drifted down to the sister that was currently hugging my waist and looking up at me with a pleading gaze, having already dismissed her clones earlier.
I sighed, "Mom said that you can remain working here."
She immediately jumped up in celebration, "Yessss!! See? I tell you liao, Gor Gor!! She’ll say ok one!"
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, you can say that now, but just wait till you get home. I’m not following you back to get scolded by mom."
She gasped, as though only just realising that she was definitely going to get lectured once she got home and there was no way of avoiding it.
"Wahhhh!! I douwan!! Gor Gor! Let me stay here for a few days!!" She whined, going back to hugging my waist and shaking me.
"No. Do you even have extra clothes here?"
"Yes!! They said I could stay here during my work so I even brought along some of my stuff to store them here! I can stay over the weekend and go back home during the weekdays for school! And I’m also applying for off campus lessons since I can also use this as part of my curriculum as long as I write a report on it! So I can even stay here longer when it’s not exam season!"
I see she really thought this out seriously huh... I suppose that’s something expected from her since she doesn’t do things by halves, especially things that she has put her mind to.
I huffed, "Just do what you want... But if mom asks me to take you back home, I won’t be shielding you from her."
"Ehhh... Good enough lah. I’ll do my best, Gor Gor!"
I’m not sure what she wants to do her best for but ok? As long as she keeps herself out of trouble I guess...
I patted her head, "Keep out of trouble, ok?"
"Aiyah... You the boss right? Even if I get into trouble, I can just come find you for help, right?"
I bonked her on the head, "Don’t rely on nepotism. To the public, I’m just a normal Guardian here, got it? You better not be spreading this around as well."
"I know lah, don’t worry, Gor Gor. Even if I tell people, they also won’t believe me."
"That’s not the point and you know it."
"Mmm... Can I at least tell people you are a Guardian?"
I considered it for a moment before shrugging, "I guess it’s kind of public knowledge at this point so that should be fine... Again, don’t rely on me to get you out of trouble just because of that, ok? I cannot play favourites here."
She grinned at me before leaning forward to lower her voice in a conspiratory whisper, "Does anyone else know or not?"
I understood she was asking if anyone aside from her knew that I was actually the Mortal God and not just a Guardian.
I nodded, "All of my Guardians know. The other staff doesn’t know though so they would probably know me as a Guardian but the Mortal God’s real identity is a secret to them."
She made a motion of zipping her lips, "Don’t worry Gor Gor. I’ll just tell people I have a really amazing Gor Gor working here!"
"Mor... Ahem... Qing?" A voice came from behind.
I turned to see Jia Lian standing behind me, the other girl looking a little unsure of herself.
I waved at her, trying to be as casual as possible, "Hey, what’s up?"
Jia Lian’s eyes darted to my sister for a moment before shifting back to me, "Who’s that?"
I didn’t get to answer as Hui Zhen stood in front of me with her chest thrust out, "I’m the cute little sister! Hello!"
Jia Lian blinked at her before shifting back to me again, asking if that was true silently.
I gave her a nod, "As much as it is unfortunate to admit it--"
"Oi!!"
"-- But she is my little sister. I didn’t know she had found a job here and I only just found out about this myself."
Jia Lian nodded in understanding, "I see... Umm... Hello. I’m Jia Lian. I’m colleagues with your brother."
She stuck out her hand in greeting towards my sister.
Hui Zhen didn’t waste a second as she smirked and shook Jia Lian’s hand, "I’m Hui Zhen! I’m the cute little sister of my Gor Gor!"
"’Gor Gor’? Hehe... I never really thought I would see people calling their brothers like that," Jia Lian giggled.
"Because my Gor Gor is awesome, ok?" She huffed.
Jia Lian shared a look with me, though I know she wanted to ask me something but I wasn’t sure if she was trying to check if my sister knew about my Mortal God background or if she was trying to check if my sister knew anything about our... Relationship.
Either way, I decided it would be a good idea for her to think that she doesn’t know about either of those things and shook my head slowly, making sure my sister doesn’t see it.
Jia Lian smiled and turned back to Hui Zhen, "Mmm... He is indeed quite awesome as you say. He is quite incredible in what he does."
Err... Jia Lian? Why are you saying it like that? This actually sounds really suspicious from an outsider’s point of view, you know?
Hui Zhen froze for a moment before her lips curled up into a smile, "Oh? Really? So you know how awesome my Gor Gor is?"
"Of course. I witnessed it first hand after all."
Unexpectedly, Hui Zhen wrapped her arm around Jia Lian’s and started giggling, "Ehehehe! Then you must tell me everything leh!! My Gor Gor always don’t want to tell me stuff one!"
Jia Lian seemed surprised by her but recovered quickly and nodded her head, "Of course. Shall we go somewhere else more comfortable? I can tell you everything."
"Ooohhh! Let’s go!"
I watched as the two girls suddenly walked away in confusion, not understanding what happened to lead to that.
Before I could wonder what I should do here, another figure emerged from the shadows of a pillar.
"Aiyah... Who was that, Gor Gor?" Hui Zhen asked, revealing that she had hidden another clone of herself there.
She didn’t look too bothered and was smoothening out her clothes before she skipped over to wrap her arms around my waist again, looking up at me innocently.
I raised an eyebrow at her, "Didn’t she tell you? She’s my colleague, so she’s a fellow Guardian. And before you ask, yes, she knows who I really am. As I said, all my guardians do."
"Mmm... You sure can trust her or not? She look very sus leh..."
"You’ve only literally just met her, sis... What the heck are you talking about?"
"I dunno, just feeling lor. I think she trying to get in your pants."
I managed to keep my poker face intact and rolled my eyes at her, "If she is, isn’t that a good thing? Like that our mother wouldn’t need to worry about me being single anymore."
"Hmph. That doesn’t mean you just take anyone hor. Must at least have standards."
"Her standards are still better than yours."
"Oi!! How can you say that! I so cute and innocent!"
I flicked her on her forehead, "Sure, try saying that after you just tricked her into thinking you’re going to listen to her when you’ve merely just led her away."
"Wahhhh!! But I’m still listening to her though! Just that most of my attention is here! Also... I so long never see you liao, of course I want to spend more time with Gor Gor lah!!"
I turned back to look at the empty lobby pointedly, "You’re just trying to use me as an excuse to slack off from work because you know your boss can’t scold you for spending time with me."
She stuck out her tongue and looked away while making a "Teehee" sound.
Whatever... I guess I can indulge her a little...
