Chapter 214: We’re Going To A Rift For ’Fun’
So I asked Diana what she had in mind and her response was to get us permission to go hunt in a rift nearby.
Well... Not really permission... More like she just grabbed someone and told them that we were going there and they should prepare for it.
I got to see just how much influence a Mortal God could have as people scrambled to arrange for our transport and security at this last minute decision of ours just to make it happen.
There were absolutely no excuses or questions coming from the staff, they just had to do whatever they needed to make sure it happened no matter what.
By the time we made our way to the front door of the hotel, there were three cars waiting for us, presumably one of each of us.
I noted there were none for the Guardians though I suspect it was more because they could only arrange for three cars to wait here in such a short time and had to bring up the others later. So they decided to let the Mortal Gods of the group have them first.
Diana sniffed at the cars, "The three of us will just use one."
The drivers looked at each other and so did our Guardians.
Unsurprisingly, Olivia lifted her hand to protest but she wasn’t the only one as a person from each of the other Mortal Goddesses’ group also raised their hands to protest.
"Please reconsider, Mistress!"
"My Lord, I advise against it!"
"My Goddess, please don’t go alone!"
All three of us turned at the same time to look back at the person who protested, then turned to look at each other at the exact same time as well, making it look like it was completely scripted.
The three of us couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at the fact that each of us had an overprotective Guardian in each of our own groups.
"It’s fine Olivia."
"I’ll be ok, Rahayu."
"No need to worry about me, Liyana."
The three women looked at one another, sharing the same exasperated gaze that the other two also had.
The three of us entered the same car at the front with me seated in the centre while the other Guardians had a quick discussion on who would take the other two cars while the others would have to wait for the next batch of transport to arrive.
I didn’t really pay attention to them as the two Mortal Goddesses had gone straight to rubbing my thighs again, these two insatiable women taking advantage of me every moment they could.
I wondered if being a Mortal God also increased your libido as well?
The Guardians surprisingly made their decisions pretty quickly and climbed into the two cars behind us.
That was when I realised that all of Siti’s and Diana’s Guardians had climbed inside the two cards but my Guardians were all left outside.
I was wondering why they would do that when I figured out they must be expecting me to open a teleportation door when I got there for them so they might as well just wait here.
That was what I thought until Leena strutted over to the back behind the last car and everyone else followed her.
Wait... There’s no way right?
I watched with morbid fascination as Liliac took out one of her plants from within her robe and did something to it to create a platform which Leena picked up to place on her back.
Kris climbed on top first before the rest of my Guardians slowly moved to settle themselves a little awkwardly on the platform on top of the centauress’s back.
You guys got to be kidding me right? Are you really going to just gallop through the streets of Sydney like that?
You know what? Don’t answer that question...
At least the two Mortal Goddesses were occupied with other things and didn’t even notice that there was a centauress at the very back with eight people on her back clinging on a wooden platform...
I would have burst out laughing if it wasn’t for the fact that those were my Guardians and I was worried about their safety.
I could see in the rearview mirror the driver of our car just staring at his side mirror with eyes as wide as saucers, clearly not expecting to see a sight like this in his lifetime.
He eventually shook his head to clear it before he put the car into drive and started pulling the vehicle out of the driveway.
Our little convoy then started its journey, leaving the hotel and heading towards who knows where.
I realised I never really asked where we were heading to but... I guess it didn’t matter since it would be a rift anyway and we would be at a completely different place once we jumped in.
The evening traffic was quite packed but it seemed like they had cleared the road using a police escort ahead of time so we weren’t stuck in it.
This is definitely one perk of being a Mortal God that I would not want to give up.
The drive only took us about ten minutes before we reached a park that was near the edge of the sea, where it had been walled off by the authorities, no doubt due to the portal that was inside.
We stopped right outside a checkpoint with a crash barrier set up and a rather gruff looking police officer stepped out to walk over to the driver window, our driver rolling it down to talk to him.
The police officer looked quite pissed as he shone a flashlight directly at our driver.
"D’ya even know where ya are, mate? If ya do then bugger off!"
Our driver grimaced visibly before leaning over the side of the window to whisper to the officer, though I could still hear him from here over the hum of the car’s engines.
"I’ve got three Mortal Gods in the back seat... They want to visit the rift here. Open the damn barrier you twat."
The officer stiffened and slowly bent down to peer into the back seat from where he was standing.
Neither Siti nor Diana were bothered and were just sitting beside me like nothing weird was happening.
The officer slowly straightened up and I’m pretty sure I heard him gulp before he started going over to the control room to lower the crash barrier.
Our driver also let out an audible sigh before he put the car in drive and drove past the checkpoint.
I would have liked to see the look on the officer’s face when he saw Leena trot by with my Guardians on top of her.
The car eventually comes to a stop at a cul-de-sac beside an empty building which I assumed was a former residential building but was vacated because of the presence of a portal here.
The driver quickly gets out and opens the door for us, letting Diana step out first before I climb out after her.
He then opened the door on the other side which allowed Siti to step out and, without waiting for anyone else, the two of them started walking towards the edge of the part where it meets the sea.
Since they knew where all the things were, I followed after them and there was another checkpoint where barriers had been erected to block off a perimeter around the park and a pair of police officers immediately walked over to intercept us.
They were clearly upset that what looked like civilians had somehow trespassed into the area before they froze up upon seeing Siti and Diana walking towards them casually.
One of the officers immediately pulled his colleague away and they scampered off without a word.
I guess these two were quite well known here already.
We turned around the corner and I found the portal shimmering in the middle of a patch of grass with several cameras pointed at it to monitor it.
"Why hasn’t this one been cleared yet?" I asked aloud.
Diana chuckled, "This one’s just a Danger Level One rift. They’re using it as a training ground for new Vanguards and also to mine Mana Crystals. It’s not really a hard rift to deal with so we can have some fun in there."
I think only Mortal Gods would consider heading inside a rift ’fun’... And I can’t even tell what kind of ’fun’ she had in mind when she said that.
Either way... I turned back to look at our Guardians who were gathered behind us, all of them showing a different look on their faces at the sight of the portal.
None of them were afraid though, which was unsurprising considering the role that they had signed up for.
Right... Honestly, I’m not even surprised that I’m suddenly heading into a rift with my Guardians right now... The surprising thing was having the other two Mortal Gods dragging me to accompany them to do it...
I guess I’ll get to see how they work though.
