Chapter 1483: Rules Of Martial Classes
I looked at the three boys who were blocking my way with narrowed eyes, "What do you want?"
The guy standing in front of me grinned and eyed the egg in my hand, "You can’t be serious right? Do you think this place is some kind of playground or something? What even is that thing?"
"What? Do you have a problem with me carrying this around?"
"Yeah. This place is for people who are serious about learning the art of the sword, not for people to play around with carrying stupid rocks. I’ve seen you around the academy carrying that thing like it’s some treasure of yours. You’re an idiot, aren’t you?"
I eyed the other two guys who were also blocking the doorway, both of them also smirking at me with their hands resting on their sword pommels.
Seriously? I’m pretty sure such things aren’t allowed in this school right?
No wait... Since this school prioritises merit over everything else... They might actually see anyone who gets suppressed by a couple of nobodies as weak and side with them instead.
I feel like this might be a problem as it might turn people into bullies but... If that’s the case, I should be able to do this.
I held onto my egg with one hand and punched him in the gut with my other fist, watching with satisfaction as the guy doubled over and fell to his knees.
The other two guys looked at their leader go down, their eyes widening in surprise before they turned back to me with anger plastered on their faces.
The one on my right tried to draw his sword so I kicked the side of his knee, causing him to buckle and lose his balance which ended up sending him tumbling to the side and banging his head against the doorframe with a loud thud.
The other guy tried to rush at me to grapple me but I just side stepped the attempt and gave him a slap across his face.
He too, got launched back towards the door and cracked his head against the doorframe before falling back on his haunches comically.
The guy whom I had first punched in the gut managed to recover, surprisingly.
He tried to give me an uppercut which I dodged by weaving to the side and he quickly followed up with an attempted left hook which I also dodged by leaning back.
He tried to swing his other fist at me again so I lifted up a foot and planted my heel against his chest before kicking out, sending the guy skidding back to crash into his two cronies.
I watched in satisfaction as they fell back onto the ground with the leader landing on top of them before I lowered my foot back on the ground.
I didn’t feel the need for me to show them any face so I stepped past the doorway and literally walked on top of them as I entered the classroom.
It seems like there were already students here and they had witnessed me beating these three guys up, most of them immediately averting their gaze when they saw me looking in their direction.
Come on, why are you guys scared now? Didn’t I do everyone a favour by beating those bullies up?
Wait... Don’t tell me these guys are like some heirs of a certain noble family and because I beat them up, they’re going to send more guys after me now?
...
Ah well, too late to worry about that I guess~ I’ll just have to beat everyone that comes after me~
I decided to take one of the seats at the front, ignoring all the stares and the trio of boys that were still collapsed in front of the door.
A few more students came in and they hesitated when they saw the three boys collapsed at the door but they still stepped over them and entered the hall like this was something expected around here.
It didn’t take long for a female Meslatar wearing an azure robe on her shoulders appeared at the door, presumably the professor of this class.
As if to confirm that assumption, she had a sword tied to her waist and a greatsword slung on her back as well.
She stopped and looked down at the three boys who were still groaning on the floor, her face tilting to the side like she was looking at some kind of puzzle.
She stepped over them before looking up at the rest of the class and pointing at the three guys, "Who did this?"
I decided there wasn’t a point hiding it so I just raised my hand to own up to it, careful not to drop my egg.
Am I in trouble?
The professor narrowed her eyes slightly at me before her lips curled up into a wide smile, "Nice."
That was all she said before she turned back to the three boys on the ground and made a face, "You three... If you’re just going to lay there and groan like a bunch of idiots, I’d rather you just get out of here and head to the infirmary instead of disrupting my class."
Oof... Harsh.
The leader of the trio groaned and pushed himself up, his goons also getting up on shaky legs.
Oh come on... I even held back, you know? I didn’t hit you guys that hard... You guys are really just being way too dramatic about it.
We watched as the three of them stumbled towards three empty seats that were as far away from me as possible.
The professor waited for them to settle in their seats before she turned her attention back to the rest of the class, her lips showing a rather refreshing smile which was quite unexpected.
"Good morning everyone! Welcome to Intermediate Swordsmanship class! I shall be your instructor here! You can call me Instructor Piertra! Nice to meet all of you!" She announced, even giving all of us a friendly wave.
She honestly gave off the friendly girl next door vibes which was quite surprising because I was expecting the Martial instructors to be drill sergeant types.
She even did a hop as she made her way over to the podium before turning to us again.
"All of you here are already accomplished in sword fighting to a certain degree so you have come here to get even better! You might also be wondering why we are here in a classroom instead of out on a training field, correct? Since you must be thinking that you can only learn on the fields of battle!"
A quiet murmur spread throughout the classroom as most of my classmates agreed with that sentiment.
"That’s what the training field outside the class is for!" Instructor Piertra continued, waving her hand in the direction of the field that the building was built around. "We also have an even bigger field where practical lessons are held, but Martial skills are more than just swinging a sword around without a thought! There are also the theoretical aspects to swordfighting that will help you improve your own sword skills!"
I heard a few groans coming from the other students behind me and if the instructor heard it, she did not show it as she hopped off the podium and skipped over to the board.
"Don’t worry! The theory part will only occupy a small section of the class schedule! We’re only here today for introductions but every other class afterwards, we will start at the training ground and then come back here to rest and discuss the art of the sword! We’re not cruel, after all! We know you still have classes after this so sending you all off after an hour and a half of physical exertion would do no good for any of you either!"
Good point... It may not be a problem for me but I’m pretty sure normal people would be exhausted and they would most likely just fall asleep or be unable to concentrate for their next lesson if they were sent directly off after a class like this.
Although... The next thing on my schedule was lunch time so it didn’t apply to today’s class at least, but I guess they also gave buffer time so students could go and shower and bathe to freshen up if they wanted.
The Instructor then hopped off the podium and she still showed us her refreshing smile, "Now! This is the part where I tell all of you that we only accept excellence! Anyone who is weak is not worthy of teaching! That’s why..."
She snapped her fingers and a magic circle behind her that was imprinted on the wall lit up, projecting a sort of screen in front of it that showed the names and a picture of whom I assumed was everyone in the class.
This seemed to be a ranking of sorts and everyone had a rank and a number beside their names.
I noted that mine was currently in first place where I had the number two thousand one hundred and fifty while everyone else had two thousand. The last three on the list, which I realised were the three boys I beat up, were stuck with a thousand, nine hundred and fifty points.
"Weakness in this class will not be tolerated! So any sign of weakness gets your points deducted and strength gives you points! If your points reach zero, you’ll be kicked out of this class! Isn’t it exciting?"
...
She really said all that with a smile on her face...
