Chapter 1240: Brother’s Decision
The waves of post–college entrance exam celebrations kept rising one after another, but Zhou Chengchen didn’t join them, because Sheng Family’s Sheng Yanxiao was about to go to the U.S. for professional corporate training.
He was the heir of the Sheng Family; this was the responsibility he ought to shoulder.
The Sheng and Zhou Families had always gotten along well, and Sheng Yanxiao had deliberately waited until Zhou Chengchen and Zhou Qi finished the exam before leaving. Now, naturally, Zhou Chengchen was doing family activities.
There was a freshman class gathering, but Zhou Chengchen didn’t go. She’d long been used to being a loner at school; aside from a very few friends, there really wasn’t much sense of class camaraderie for her.
By comparison, of course the family side was more important.
Although the grades weren’t out yet and she hadn’t filled in her application, Zhou Chengchen had already set her sights on Q University. She had confidence in herself; it shouldn’t be a problem.
As for Zhou Qi, he shocked everyone. After coming back from dinner at the Sheng Family’s, he very solemnly told the Zhou Family that he wanted to postpone entering university; he wanted to form a team with An Rui and let his youthful blood boil on the esports stage.
You could say the result was unexpected, but thinking about it carefully, it also made sense.
Zhou Qi had always loved games—no one didn’t know that.
As the eldest young master of the Zhou Family, he had every condition needed to be a rich, idle playboy, but he wasn’t. He didn’t like luxury cars, didn’t like luxury watches, and didn’t like a life of debauchery.
For him, the biggest expense was nothing more than computers, keyboards, and mice.
It was just that when Zhou Qi said this decision out loud, it still left everyone stunned.
For all the Zhou Family’s open-mindedness, on some points they were no different from ordinary people.
Video games, sure, playing them was fine, but dropping out of school for them—that was just too much. What’s more, Zhou Qi had the Zhou Group resting on his shoulders.
Though their family had never said the company must only be passed to sons and not daughters, Zhou Chengchen had always been their little princess, held in everyone’s hands. Leaving aside whether she had the ability to stand on her own, even if she did, how could they bear to let her?
To inherit a group, and a huge one at that—if you just wanted to muddle along, then fine; plenty of family businesses declined that way.
But if you wanted to keep developing it, that was absolutely no easy task.
How could such a heavy burden be put on Zhou Chengchen?
But when father and son came out of the study, there was a hint of relaxation on Zhou Qi’s face. Zhou Chengchen hurried up to him. "Bro, Dad agreed?"
Zhou Qi didn’t have that prematurely mature steadiness of Sheng Yanxiao, but when he got serious, he really did have a bit of a dashing young-hero vibe.
Only right now... Zhou Qi cocked an eyebrow in a show-offy way. "Of course. Your brother never fails."
Seriously, what the hell are you so smug about? Can I punch him?
Zhou Qi’s face was full of smugness, but Zhou Chengchen could see that their father’s expression still wasn’t great. She could guess that for her father, what weighed more was fulfilling a father’s wish to support his son’s dream.
Expecting him to wholeheartedly give his blessing—it probably wasn’t realistic.
Zhou Chengchen followed Zhou Qi into his room and saw that he’d already turned his computer back on, seemingly about to queue up another game. She asked, "Bro, how did you talk Dad around?"
Zhou Qi smiled at her, the swagger from just now gone. He glanced at the night outside the window, his expression uncharacteristically serious. "Cheng Chen, I actually know my responsibilities and obligations. I will take over the company. I won’t let that burden fall on you."
Zhou Chengchen was a little dumbfounded. This sudden seriousness—she really wasn’t used to it.
