Chapter 1235: Rumors Resurface
The second semester of senior year is always filled with tension and busyness. As the college entrance exam approached, countdown boards for the exam were hung up in every class.
The students in the competition class, whether they’d already secured a recommendation quota or not, all entered full-on prep mode.
Competition kids’ grades are mostly solid; even if someone is extremely lopsided in their subjects, their overall scores might not be stellar, but they definitely still count as good students.
So the school mostly hoped they would all take the college entrance exam to boost the school’s overall performance.
In April, Liu Xiaoyu went to take Q University’s special math exam. He took a week off to focus on preparing, and on the first day he came back, he put a big apple on Xi Siyan’s desk.
On that simple, honest face was a bright smile that Xi Siyan had never seen before.
Xi Siyan looked at the apple and smiled too. "You passed?"
Even though Liu Xiaoyu’s smile was bright, his personality was still shy. A bit embarrassed, he scratched his hair. "The results aren’t out yet, but I feel like I did really well."
On a normal day, Cheng Chen would absolutely have mocked him with a "Classmate, careful, that might just be an illusion," but facing Liu Xiaoyu, this pure big guy, she couldn’t say it. So she took the apple he handed over and "crunch" took a bite. "Congrats, congrats, you’ll definitely pass."
Then she heard Liu Xiaoyu speak up, incredibly awkwardly: "I haven’t washed that apple yet."
Cheng Chen immediately spat the apple out of her mouth. "Damn, Liu Xiaoyu, you trying to poison me?"
An unwashed apple at worst just gives you a stomachache. Cheng Chen was clearly only joking.
He’d taken the special exam, and Liu Xiaoyu was very confident in himself, but that thing only adds points; in the end it still comes down to the college entrance exam score.
After joking around with Cheng Chen for a bit, he hurried off to memorize vocabulary.
Liu Xiaoyu’s science subjects were very strong; his shortcoming was severe. With less than two months left, he poured most of his energy into that weak spot.
Time quickly moved into mid-May. B City, which usually starts heating up in May, seemed especially considerate of all these exam-takers this year. It was already mid-May, yet the weather was still quite nice, not really hot.
Staring at the countdown board in the classroom, Cheng Chen also picked up the pace of her revision.
Maybe it was because the closer the exam got, the more nervous everyone became, and the more nervous they were, the more likely they were to gossip, creating this vicious cycle. Rumors that no one had mentioned for a while resurfaced—about Xi Siyan and Guo Yue.
Quite a few people claimed they’d personally seen those two hanging out together all the time and whatnot.
There was of course another reason everyone was so into spreading it: Cheng Chen and Xi Siyan were a couple, and that was no secret at school. Some people said they were jealous, but mostly it was that mix of envy and jealousy.
Now that this rumor popped up, and given that Cheng Chen, to people who weren’t familiar with her, always seemed hard to get along with and not very likable, naturally there were plenty of people who wanted to see her make a fool of herself.
Cheng Chen heard a lot of those rumors, but never took them to heart, because she and Xi Siyan met every noon. She could feel that Xi Siyan was still that same Xi Siyan; he hadn’t changed at all.
Besides, this was the final sprint before the college entrance exam. Their future was about to be right in front of them. She absolutely did not have the luxury of wasting time gossiping along with everybody.
She trusted Xi Siyan, and trusted even more in the future they were about to have.
So even when Liu Xiaoyu nervously came to ask her if something had gone wrong between her and the God, Cheng Chen didn’t take it seriously.
