Chapter 1230: This Winter Really Is Cold
It wasn’t caused by the cold; it was clearly from running.
Xi Siyan paused for a moment, immediately took out the key from his pocket, and went inside.
Right after, he went to the bathroom, filled a basin with water, and wrung out a warm towel.
"Want to wipe your face?"
Zhou Chengchen took it and slowly wiped her little face, which had already become numb from the cold. Xi Siyan, however, had already pulled her to sit down, squatted down, and took off Zhou Chengchen’s shoes and socks, putting her feet into the warm water.
The water wasn’t actually hot, but Zhou Chengchen’s feet were so cold that it felt scalding at first touch. Her fingertips barely touched it before she pulled them back immediately.
"Hot!"
Xi Siyan looked up at her, held her feet in his embrace with his own body heat for a while, and then put them in the water again: "Better now?"
"Mm."
This wasn’t the first time. Remembering the words she blurted out last time, Zhou Chengchen’s cheeks felt a bit warm, but on the surface, she remained calm.
"Where did you go? Brother said you left after taking a call. Weren’t we supposed to have dinner together?"
Xi Siyan’s actions paused as he washed Zhou Chengchen’s feet but quickly resumed normally: "Something came up."
"What was it?"
Xi Siyan didn’t answer immediately, seeming to think for a moment before speaking: "Went to see my mom."
Zhou Chengchen was taken aback but didn’t say anything more. She already understood the relationship between Xi Siyan and his mother.
He didn’t resent her, just felt distant, while she for him had no care, only basic decency.
This wasn’t a good topic. Zhou Chengchen didn’t continue asking and changed the subject: "What shall we eat tonight? I’m starving."
"What do you want to eat?"
Zhou Chengchen initially wanted to say "what you cook," but quickly realized Xi Siyan might not be in the best mood now; she didn’t want to trouble him. She pouted slightly: "I want barbecue, let’s go for some barbecue."
"Alright!"
Once they had warmed up, bundling up tightly again, Zhou Chengchen’s boots, soaked from the snow, were dried by Xi Siyan with a hairdryer before they headed out.
They casually found a nearby place that looked decent and sat down.
Zhou Chengchen couldn’t resist asking about Xi Siyan’s exam, receiving a positive answer, so she didn’t press further.
The two of them entirely forgot about Zhou Qi and An Rui still being around, warmly finished their barbecue, and Xi Siyan saw Zhou Chengchen into a taxi.
Only after watching the car leave did the warmth in Xi Siyan’s eyes completely fade away.
He lied to her.
Or rather, he didn’t tell the whole truth.
He did meet Zhang Yi today, but in fact, he went to the Xi Family.
After leaving the exam hall, as soon as his phone turned on, he received a call from Zhang Yi and then went with Zhang Yi to the Xi Family.
This was the second time in his life entering the Xi Family’s door.
Unlike before, this time he was not chased out with curses but respectfully invited in.
Everyone in the Xi Family greeted him politely and courteously, even Zhang Yi walked with his head held a bit higher.
The reason... The Xi family’s daughter, his half-sister from a different mother, fell seriously ill and needed a bone marrow transplant. Seeking him was to test for a match.
Xi Siyan took a breath of cold air, hands in pockets, slowly walked back.
This winter, it’s really cold.
