Chapter 1287: The Very Lively Library
“Recently, the Interstellar Alliance busted a major criminal syndicate suspected of crimes against humanity. According to reports, the syndicate tampered with the genes of aliens and staged an entire planet as a television production in a bid for attention. The planet has now been rescued, and police are conducting further investigations.”
Following this, the salvation squad visited the Interstellar Alliance as representatives of Heavensea Planet and received a warm welcome.
Lu Yang had been in the Interstellar Alliance for five days. He noticed that promotional posters of the salvation squad were plastered all over the streets. They were far more famous than he had anticipated.
Once the public learned that The Legend of Heavensea Planet wasn’t a fictional drama but real-life events, their adoration for the salvation squad only grew.
What surprised Lu Yang most, however, was the emergence of his own fan club.
Back in the cultivation world, he had been widely known as a righteous figure with many admirers. But the cultivation world was conservative. No one would have marched through the streets holding banners with his name.
Here in the Interstellar Alliance, they dared.
Handsome looks, a mysterious identity, a champion of justice—these factors combined made Lu Yang the latest sensation across the Interstellar Alliance.
Every time Lu Yang considered that similar scenes could be playing out on other planets, his eye twitched. Although he enjoyed the spotlight, having so many people obsessed with him was still somewhat unsettling.
He cast aside these distracting thoughts and walked into the library. He had spent the past few days in the library studying the history of the Interstellar Alliance.
Even an abridged history of the alliance filled entire shelves. In short, the alliance was the product of a great fusion of civilizations from various planets. It began with only twelve members.
As more life-bearing planets were discovered, they joined the alliance in pursuit of development. Over time, the alliance grew into the colossal entity it was today.
However, Lu Yang found no records of the Zhutian Civilization, likely because their spacecraft had yet to reach this region. Naturally, there were no records of the Blue Planet’s civilization either.
Lu Yang couldn’t help but say, “The Interstellar Alliance’s technology is truly advanced.”
“They’ve built devices to capture solar energy and are undertaking large-scale stellar engineering.
“They have also created brain-signal simulation technology so that mechanical bodies transmit tactile sensations perfectly to the brain, though the cost is exorbitant and beyond the reach of ordinary citizens.
“Their most powerful weapon is a star-annihilating cannon that generates high-energy particles capable of piercing a stellar core.
“And there’s the quantum computer with high-speed computation, as well as the Ether computer that can calculate everything given sufficient input data.”
The Everlasting Immortal Fairy sat on the bed, swinging her little feet back and forth, utterly baffled by what Lu Yang was going on about.
Capturing solar energy? The Radiant Sun Creed can do that easily. Isn’t simulating brain signals just illusory arts? And that Ether computer Xiao Yangzi keeps praising rubs me the wrong way.
“Hmph. It’s nowhere as sharp as this immortal’s mind. I can deduce Dao Fruits. Can that Ether computer do that?” If Xiao Yangzi doesn’t give me a satisfactory answer, I’ll ignore him for a year—no, that’s too long—a month—that’s also too long...
Fine, I’ll ignore him for a whole day! That will drive him crazy!
Lu Yang quickly offered a placating smile to pacify the Everlasting Immortal Fairy, whose displeasure was written all over her face. “Of course, of course. How could such a contraption compare to you, the Immortal Fairy, whose wisdom can comprehend the ages?”
“Hee hee, you’ve got a good eye. I forgive you.”
Lu Yang shook his head helplessly and continued studying the Interstellar Alliance’s culture. He pulled out a folded map from an astronomy book. It depicted the part of the universe the alliance had explored.
The Everlasting Immortal Fairy commented disdainfully, “They’ve only explored this much? That’s at most a corner of the universe. Any territory of the Heaven Mandate Immortals and the others is larger than this.”
Lu Yang wanted to ask how large the Everlasting Immortal Fairy’s territory had been, but on second thought, for his own safety, he decided not to ask any questions that could prompt her to scratch him.
“The map is already large enough.” Just this single star chart made the trip worthwhile. Along with the Interstellar Alliance’s multifarious technological products, it would be enough to transform the cultivation world.
A chip the size of a fingernail slipped out from between the pages. Lu Yang picked it up and examined it against the light, but couldn’t discern what it was for. He was about to put it back where he had found it when he heard the sound of an explosion nearby, followed by sirens and the panicked cries of civilians.
A luxurious sports car had crashed into the library. A bloodied young boy climbed out of the wreckage.
Several more vehicles plowed into the library. Squads of heavily armed robots alighted, seemingly here to apprehend the young boy.
Through the gaping hole in the hall, one could see complete chaos outside, apparently the result of a high-speed chase between the young boy and a robot army.
The young boy stumbled forward, with a hail of gunfire behind him. It looked extremely perilous. But the young boy was lucky. Bullets whizzed past him, none hitting him.
The people of the Interstellar Alliance didn’t have the habit of reading paper books, so the library had few visitors. Sensing danger, they fled for their lives.
Lu Yang felt that he had to leave with the others. The reason was simple—the young boy was running toward him.
With a quick stride, he slipped into the gap between two bookshelves. Then he watched as the young boy took a quick stride and darted in right beside him.
The two stared at each other.
Lu Yang. "!!!"
Bro, why did you come over here?
“Get down!” the young boy suddenly shouted and tackled Lu Yang to the ground.
Machine-gun bullets swept over their heads, penetrating several rows of bookshelves. One could imagine that even if the young boy hadn’t tackled him to the ground, Lu Yang would have been perfectly unscathed.
As he dropped to the ground, the young boy rolled and tossed out a bomb. It exploded with a boom, temporarily stunning the robots and freezing them in place.
The young boy turned to Lu Yang with a solemn expression. “Don’t think we’re safe. That was my last pulse bomb. They’ll only be immobilized temporarily. To get rid of them for good, we have to find the chip my grandpa left here!”
Lu Yang figured that since the young boy was so capable, he probably didn’t need his help. After all, I’m here to travel.
Seeing that Lu Yang had no intention to help, the young boy said gravely, “The place is already surrounded by the robot army. Neither of us can escape. Our only option now is to find that chip! Do you want to know why we’re being hunted down? It’s because my grandpa discovered that artificial intelligence is plotting to overthrow human rule!”
Lu Yang pulled out the fingernail-sized chip from the book again and asked, “Is this what you’re looking for?”
The boy excitedly took it and examined it, only to hand it back in disappointment. “This isn’t it. The chip should have Grandpa’s mark on it.”
Lu Yang was even more perplexed. Then where did this chip come from?
Suddenly, another explosion sounded from the other side of the library. A dashing young girl stumbled in, also with pursuers hot on her heels.
She had sharp eyesight. Even through the smoke and dust from a distance, she could clearly see what Lu Yang was holding. Her eyes lit up, and she excitedly exclaimed, “That’s it! The evidence of the conglomerates’ illegal stellar development is right there!”
Lu Yang was speechless. Maybe I shouldn’t have come to the library today?
