After getting the Card, the group happened to return to the school through the back gate.

Chen Chong planned to drop their things off at home, then go check on how Shen Xinrou’s consultation room was coming along, and finally, pay a visit to the Fishing Club.

"Ah Jun, did you say the people from the Fishing Club didn’t tell you any specifics when they were looking for you?"

Chen Chong asked on the way to the faculty apartments.

Xu Jun nodded. "Yeah. They just said they’d run into some trouble recently and wanted our help. I asked what it was about, but they said we’d talk in detail when we met."

"Oh, right. They also said they have some fish and that if we wanted to trade, we could do it then."

"Alright. We don’t have much else to do today anyway. Let’s drop our stuff off, check on the situation on the first floor, and then head over."

The group went straight upstairs.

First, they put down everything they were carrying. The dead wild rabbit and a dozen or so birds were tossed into the cellar, and the crate of fish was carried over to the fishpond.

After sorting fish a few times, even Xu Jun and Jia Wen, who didn’t know much about fish species, could now handle the screening process on their own.

Soon, most of the crate of fish was divided into several buckets.

One bucket contained omnivorous, herbivorous, and filter-feeding fish suitable for the fishpond, weighing about twenty-some pounds, which they poured straight in.

Another bucket held loaches, crabs, and carnivorous fish, which would be tossed into the mud pond later.

The last bucket was for dead fish and those with obvious injuries that were unlikely to survive. These could be used for cooking or feeding the wild ducks.

Gazing at the fifty-square-meter fishpond, Chen Chong was filled with emotion.

After several rounds of trading for and releasing fish, and after the natural culling process, there were now about one hundred and fifty pounds of fish in the pond.

While it didn’t look like that much, this was already the most resource-rich area in their home.

The initial ecological balance of the fishpond was slowly taking shape. All it needed was more fish to truly thrive...

"Let’s go."

The group carried the buckets to the living room.

They emptied one bucket of fish into the mud pond, fed the wild ducks, and then prepared to leave.

Before leaving, Chen Chong made a point to check on everything.

The eagle egg still showed no signs of movement. A warm red light shone on its shell, its internal changes a mystery to all.

The mud pond, like the fishpond, was mostly still. The creatures within were almost invisible; apart from the easily spotted river snails, the rest were either hiding in corners or buried in the mud.

The wild rabbit and ducks were very active, eating the fish and cut grass Chen Chong had just given them.

In the farmland, the tomato and chili seedlings had grown taller. This time, he was sure it wasn’t an illusion—they were genuinely bigger.

The fruit on them was beginning to show a visible tinge of red, a sign they were ripening.

Over on the other side, the few fruits on the Fog Fruit tree were even redder, with only a little green remaining.

If all went well, they would be edible tomorrow or the day after.

Then there was the field planted with sweet potatoes...

One by one, green shoots had broken through the ground and appeared above the soil.

Although they were still small and weak, that splash of green was incredibly eye-catching.

All fifteen sweet potatoes had sprouted; not a single one had failed.

The farmland’s inherent nutrients and growth-acceleration effect made the crops grow far faster than normal. Other than daily watering, they didn’t require much attention.

Chen Chong smiled. Everything at home was developing in the right direction. From nothing to something, it was a world away from the barrenness of the beginning.

Although all kinds of resources were still pitifully scarce, at least this brought hope.

’This makes all the running around, working myself to the bone every day, worth it...’

The group arrived downstairs.

Compared to the other floors, the first and second floors of the faculty apartments were the most populated.

Most residents were the teachers and security guards from before, while the rest were students who had some resources and understood the importance of a good place to live, having traded to get in.

The one-bedroom apartment Xu Jun had acquired was unit 102 on the far left.

Other than being smaller and having only one bedroom, it was more or less the same as a three-bedroom apartment.

There was no one around at the moment, just a laborer cleaning outside.

Seeing Chen Chong, the laborer quickly stopped his work and said respectfully, "Sir."

Before Chen Chong could respond, the sound attracted a maid from inside, who also hurried over to bow.

"Greetings, Sir!"

Chen Chong nodded. The title "Sir" was what he had the two of them call him.

After all, one of them had started by calling him "Master," and the other "Old Master."

Each title was more ridiculous than the last.

At one point, Chen Chong felt like he was in a live-action role-playing game, collecting a full set of character roles and statuses.

Instead of them trying to one-up each other with flowery titles, he figured it was better to follow Wang Biao’s example and have everyone just call him "Sir."

Just then, three more people walked out of the room.

One was Shen Xinrou. The other two were a surprise to Chen Chong.

"Brother Chong."

Shen Xinrou called out sweetly.

"Chen Chong, we meet again."

"Zhang... Meng?"

That’s right, it was Zhang Meng. His trademark short hair and the scar at the corner of his mouth were hard to forget.

Following behind him was a young man with blond hair, Huang Mao. He was Zhang Meng’s roommate, his best friend from the Fighting Club, and the only member who left with him after he was kicked out.

"Are you here to see a doctor?"

Chen Chong looked at the obvious bruise on the corner of Zhang Meng’s mouth and instinctively assumed he was there to get treatment from Shen Xinrou.

Zhang Meng burst out laughing, his hearty voice echoing in the room. "You really wish I was hurt, don’t you? I’m not here for treatment. I’m here to see you."

"To see me?" Chen Chong’s brows furrowed slightly.

Shen Xinrou chimed in at the right moment. "Brother Chong, I ran into them when I was coming downstairs. They said they were your friends, so I told them you were out on an errand and would be back soon. They’ve been waiting downstairs ever since."

"You’re not here to try and get me to join your club again, are you? Did your boss send you?" Chen Chong asked.

As soon as the words left his mouth, the smile on Zhang Meng’s face froze.

The expression on Huang Mao, who was standing behind him, also darkened.

"Brother Chen Chong, Brother Meng and I... we were kicked out of the club by the president."

"Huh?" Chen Chong was taken aback. ’Kicked out?’

Zhang Meng’s expression shifted, a flicker of embarrassment on his face.

His pride couldn’t stand the thought of others knowing about such a humiliating event.

But when he remembered why he had come to find Chen Chong, he finally let out a sigh...

...

On the sofa, Xu Jun looked shocked while Chen Chong was lost in thought.

"So, after you were kicked out of the Fighting Club, you came all this way to find me... just to join my team?"

Zhang Meng nodded earnestly. "I know that even though you know who I am, we’re not familiar with each other. Plus, you have beef with Fan Kai. I understand that me showing up out of the blue with my brother, asking to join, might make you suspect my motives."

"But I can guarantee you, I have no connection to the Fighting Club anymore. And I’ll make a proper contribution, just like... this young lady here."

"This feather... is the pledge of loyalty I’ve brought!"

Zhang Meng pulled a feather from his clothes.

It was less a feather and more a feather-shaped duster.

It was just so big!

It was almost as long as a person’s forearm.

"This is..."

Chen Chong stared at the ridiculously large feather in Zhang Meng’s hand, a feeling of déja vu washing over him.

’It’s like... from the Stone Claw Eagle’s nest!’

That’s it, the Stone Claw Eagle’s nest!

Back then, besides countless bones, the ground had been littered with bird feathers of all sizes.

Some were taller than a person, while the shorter ones were just like the one in Zhang Meng’s hand.

A feather as long as a forearm... this had to be one of the Stone Claw Eagle’s down feathers, used for warmth!

But after figuring out the feather’s origin, Chen Chong was even more dumbfounded.

How did Zhang Meng get it?

’Don’t tell me... he climbed up that barren mountain, too?’

...
