Chapter 1539: Source of it all (3)
"Crack."
"Creak."
These two sounds rang out one after another as the glowing words reached the array on the door.
The array did hold out for a bit, but it wasn’t able to keep it up under the relentless assault of the glowing words. In the end, the array shattered under this assault and turned into fragments.
After the array turned into fragments, the door that it had sealed naturally opened for Lin Fan.
Even with the door opening in front of him, Lin Fan didn’t move that quickly. Instead, he just observed the door as if he was waiting for something to happen or rather he was waiting for some kind of movement from the system.
But seeing that there was nothing that came from the system, Lin Fan slowly walked through that door.
"You shouldn’t have come..."
Before the voice could finish, it suddenly cut itself off.
It wasn’t that Lin Fan had done anything to cut the voice off, it was that the voice itself trailed off in the middle of their words. It was as if the owner of the voice had realized something that made them stop talking.
Lin Fan didn’t know what it was at first, but then he noticed that the token was glowing.
He had forgotten about the token since the system had guided him on how to break through the array, but this token was what he had been using previously. Lin Fan had just left it attached to his clothes just in case something happened.
Looking at the token, he realized that it seemed to be reacting to something in this room.
But when he looked around, he found that there was nothing here.
It didn’t take long for the system to activate once more.
The moment that the system showed him the array that was here, Lin Fan couldn’t help revealing a wry smile.
"Isn’t it strange to be using the same array twice for a test?"
Even so, Lin Fan didn’t hesitate to raise the ink brush in his hand in front of him and start writing those glowing words. This time, he didn’t have to write as many words since this array wasn’t as large as the other one.
This array seemed to be only protecting a small area, which Lin Fan couldn’t help finding strange.
But he still released the glowing words in the end and shattered the array.
The moment that the array disappeared, Lin Fan knitted his brows and a confused look appeared in his eyes. No matter how he looked at the thing in front of him, he wasn’t able to understand what it was.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t figure out what it was based on its appearance since the appearance already made it quite clear what this thing was.
It was just that he couldn’t understand why this thing was here.
At the very least, there was one thing that Lin Fan did figure out.
"So that’s why there was always mist that appeared when an array was opened."
Lin Fan had thought that the mist was an effect of the array, which was why there was always this mist. But now it turned out that this mist was actually something that was completely separate from the array.
The reason that the array kept showing this mist when it was dispelled was because it was borrowing the power of this mist, as shown by the ball of mist that had appeared in front of him.
This thing was some kind of special form of energy that the array had been using to power it.
But since it was a form of energy, did that mean that there was a source in the center?
Looking closely at it, Lin Fan found that he wasn’t able to see a single thing that was inside of this ball of mist. Even though he was using his full power to try and penetrate it, he found that it was completely useless.
Then again, this mist was the thing that had completely prevented their spiritual sense from spreading. Since the Appraisal Eyes also seemed to work on spiritual sense, it made sense that it would stop him from seeing the true form of this item.
The only thing that Lin Fan knew was that he wanted to try and absorb it.
"You can’t take it with you."
When the voice spoke, Lin Fan couldn’t help slightly knitting his brows.
However, he didn’t argue with this voice and just waited to hear what kind of explanation this voice had for why he couldn’t take it. There had to be a reason for why this voice wasn’t letting him take it.
With everything that he had done so far, it would make sense if he was regarded as the successor of this pavilion. With everything that he had seen so far, it should only make sense that what was in this pavilion would also belong to him.
It didn’t seem like the voice was going to explain at first, but then it said, "That doesn’t belong to the inheritance, that thing is just stored here. It’s something that belongs to the entire sect, so you can’t take it unless you inherit our sect’s inheritance."
Lin Fan was surprised to hear this, but he quickly figured out what the voice meant by this.
This ball of mist was used in an array that covered the entire Dao Sect ruins, so it only made sense that this thing belonged to the entire Dao Sect. As such, it would be included in the final inheritance of these ruins.
The only reason that it was being stored here was because this array pavilion was most likely the one that was in charge of creating the array that drew on the power of the mist.
As such, it was the safest to store the ball of mist in this place.
Lin Fan had no idea what this ball of mist was capable of, but from the array that it powered, he could guess that it certainly wasn’t a normal ball of mist. It was only normal that it would have an effect on the place that it was contained.
There was even a part of him that was a bit uncomfortable about staying in the same room that it was stored in. After all, there was no telling what it would do to him if he stayed here for long.
"It’s not going to do anything to you. You would have to stay near it for a very long time before that happened." The voice said as if reading Lin Fan’s mind.
For Lin Fan who had taken a step back, that caused an awkward smile to appear on his face. He wasn’t surprised that the owner of the voice had read his mind, he just felt embarrassed that he had been seen through like this.
Once he calmed himself down, Lin Fan calmly asked, "Is there anything else that I have to do to prove that I’m worthy of accepting this place?"
Since everything had been explained, it wasn’t as if he was going to keep insisting on taking this ball of mist away with him.
Though the main reason was that he already had intentions to receive the inheritance of the entire Dao Sect ruins. That was the reason that he was going to all of these different pavilions and gaining all of these inheritances.
He was building up his influence like he had been told.
The voice didn’t answer right away, but eventually it said, "You’ve already done all of this, what else could I make you do?"
There was even this tone of resignation that was in Lin Fan’s voice that made a smile appear on his face.
With these words from the voice, there was this flag that appeared in the air in front of him.
Lin Fan was surprised to see this flag, but it wasn’t as if he didn’t know what it was.
This was the kind of flag that would be used at the points of an array to help it take shape.
It only made sense that this kind of array flag would be used as the key for this array pavilion.
"Use a drop of blood to bind yourself to it."
Lin Fan couldn’t help feeling confused when he heard this since none of the other keys had required him to do something like this. But it seemed like there was no debate in the voice as it said this.
So in the end, Lin Fan had no choice but to let out a drop of blood that he placed on the flag.
The moment that the flag absorbed his blood, he understood why the voice wanted him to take this. After all, this flag wasn’t just a normal array flag that was being used as a key.
This flag was actually tied to an array that was active in the Dao Sect.
It didn’t give him full control of this array, but it did give him the ability to influence the array.
Such as opening up the part of the array that was hiding this pavilion to let Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu in.
In the future, Lin Fan would actually be able to control the mist array that covered the Dao Sect ruins with this array flag. Though it was limited to the area around him and it depended on the concentration of mist used in the array.
Still, this really gave him quite the advantage in these Dao Sect ruins.
