Chapter 1549: The true source
After moving past the cells, they found that there weren’t any other elders that were trapped here.
Out of the Five Great Sects, there were ten elders from the four righteous sects and one elder from the Heavenly Demon Sect that were trapped here.
It really was a demonstration of the difference between the Five Great Sects.
It just went to show that the Heavenly Demon Sect was on a different level compared to the four righteous sects.
But that didn’t matter right now, what really mattered right now was finding the inheritance left behind in this place. Only by obtaining it would they be able to create a sort of safe zone in this place.
Right now, they were nothing more than a bunch of ants that were drifting on a piece of driftwood in the sea all because of the token. If they wanted to survive in this place, they had to create a safe space for themselves or they would be swept away by the waves.
However, how could it be easy to create this kind of safe space in this place?
After walking for a while, Lin Fan’s group finally slowed down.
That was because they could sense that they were getting closer and closer to the source of the pressure that filled this place. It was because they could even feel the pressure coming down on them now.
It had reached the point where it was actually hard for them to move.
But even so, they pushed forward with willpower alone since they knew that they had to do this.
When they reached the final room, there were wry smiles that appeared on their faces.
"So this is the source of it all?"
When they saw the thing that was in the center of the room, they realized that they had been wrong about this place. They had thought that it was just a simple array that was suppressing all of the prisoners that were imprisoned here.
But it turned out that it wasn’t that.
The moment that they walked in, they could see all of the souls that were in this place suddenly turned to look at them. The pressure that came from having all of these souls look was something that was enough to force them a step back.
It was an unconscious kind of pressure that reached the very depths of their souls, so it wasn’t something that could be defended against.
However, it did seem to weaken in the end.
From the way that the souls in this room acted, it seemed like they recognized something that came from Lin Fan’s group. It seemed like that was the only reason that they had stopped putting that pressure on them.
Seeing the way that these souls were dressed and how they looked at him, it wasn’t hard for Lin Fan to figure out what it was about him that they were looking at.
Which was why he put the hands of Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu on his shoulders before reaching into his chest to pull out the token.
The moment that this token came out, there was a reaction that came from the souls.
It was just that even if there was a reaction, it didn’t seem like they were planning on doing anything else. It even looked like they had lost interest in him with the way that they turned their heads away in the end.
At the very least, it proved that the token was useful when it came to these souls.
Instead of saying something, Lin Fan just focused on the souls that were in this room.
From the records that he had read, he already knew what the Dao Sect uniforms looked like. So he knew that it wasn’t just elders that were in this place, but also disciples that were also here.
There seemed to be something slightly different about their uniforms compared to the normal uniforms of the Dao Sect, so it had to be unique to something about this place.
"It’s the uniform of the law enforcement pavilion. That bit of information is in my database."
Lin Fan just gave a simple nod when Xiao Mu confirmed this before looking at the souls once more.
After a while, he was able to figure out what this place was. It was just that he was the last one that had figured it out.
Xiao Mu and Ye Qing Huan had both figured this out before he could.
"It’s quite something that they would give even their souls to their sects."
Ye Qing Huan didn’t say anything at first, but then she said with a sigh, "It’s not something that you would see in the demonic sects, but there have been cases of righteous sects doing things like this. They are very loyal to their sects at the very least unlike demonic cultivators who only do what gives them the greatest benefits."
Lin Fan revealed a strange look because his impression of the righteous sects wasn’t that good in the first place.
But when he thought about it, he did recognize that this was what righteous sects should normally be like. At the same time, this was the righteous sect that he was more familiar with when it came to memories of his past life.
The souls that were in this place were the former disciples and elders of the Dao Sect, most likely those that had once been in this law enforcement pavilion.
It wasn’t as if everyone would be able to ascend and become an immortal.
There were those that reached a certain level of cultivation and were never able to take that next step. Which was why in the end, they lived out their normal lifespan on this mortal plane.
Once they died, they had left their souls in this place as part of the array that protected this place and restrained the criminals that were imprisoned here.
Since they used to be a part of the Dao Sect, they recognized the token.
Or was it that the token was the thing that was embedded with the access for this place.
Regardless of what it was, they were now inside of this core room of the law enforcement pavilion.
It was just that Lin Fan had no idea what to do in this place.
Since they had been wrong, it meant that there really was no way for them to create the safe zone that they had been hoping for.
These pavilions in the main part of the Dao Sect were the true inheritances of the Dao Sect and weren’t things that could be controlled by a single person. It was why there wouldn’t be a trial to pass down these pavilions in the first place.
If they wanted these pavilions, they had to deal with the things that were already here.
In this case, they would have to deal with all of the souls that were trapped inside of this array this entire time.
To deal with the regrets of these souls from countless years in the past, it really was close to impossible. After all, Lin Fan’s group had an idea of what these souls wanted and it wasn’t something that they could give them.
The only reason that they were still here was because Lin Fan wasn’t leaving and he wasn’t leaving because he was simply being stubborn. He didn’t want to leave this place that easily because he wanted to see if he could figure out a way to take control of this pavilion.
He could feel the sensation that came from the token, so he believed that he would be able to do something with it.
Which was why Lin Fan moved forward towards the nearest soul.
Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu who were forced to follow him since they had their hands on his shoulders, but there were wry smiles on their faces as they didn’t want to do this.
When Lin Fan came up to the closest soul, he could feel the pressure that came from it even though it had restrained itself. This was just the natural pressure that came from the array in this place.
The one that Lin Fan approached looked to be one of the disciples of this law enforcement pavilion. But the main thing was that this one looked to be the weakest out of all the disciples that were a part of the array.
"Can you tell me how you came to be a part of this array?"
There was only silence that followed after Lin Fan asked this question.
The soul of the disciple didn’t even turn in his direction, as if it just didn’t care that he had spoken. To the soul of the disciple, it was as if Lin Fan didn’t exist.
Lin Fan couldn’t help shaking his head with a bitter look seeing this, but there was nothing that he could do if they weren’t answering him.
After all, he needed some kind of response from these souls if he wanted to convince them to follow him.
But since there was no response at all.
"Let’s go. There’s no point staying here any longer. We’ll go look at the other places first." Ye Qing Huan tried slowly coaxing Lin Fan to leave this place.
He still had a trace of unwillingness in his eyes since he didn’t want to give up on this place just yet.
But in the end, there was nothing that Lin Fan could do as no one was answering him.
So he had no choice but to let Ye Qing Huan pull him away.
