Chapter 1534: Mini world

Lin Fan didn’t say anything, but he already knew that it was over with the way that the elder acted.

After all, there was no response that came from the piece that the elder put down.

Even though the elder had placed down this piece, there wasn’t a single illusion that appeared.

This was enough to show Lin Fan that the elder’s will had been broken and the elder had no idea what to do at this point. It meant that the system’s guidance had already completely shattered all the game plans of the elder.

Even though only a few pieces had been placed down, it seemed like the elder was done.

Seeing the way that Lin Fan looked at him, the elder just pointed at the board as if he was gesturing for Lin Fan to keep going.

So Lin Fan placed the next piece down and waited for the elder to come out of his daze.

Once the elder was out, he said with a sigh, "It’s over, you win."

He didn’t even bother looking at the board or desperately try to put a piece down. The elder had fully recognized that this game was over.

Lin Fan couldn’t help giving a secret bitter laugh at how ruthless the system was. Even when the elder had already basically given up, the system didn’t show any mercy to him and destroyed him just the same.

Though it wasn’t as if the elder seemed to have any regrets even though he had given up like this.

Once he had lost this badly, he knew that there was no point in making a desperate struggle since there was nothing to learn from this kind of poor play. The only thing that he could do was accept his loss and review everything that had happened.

It was a good thing that it was a quick loss, which meant that it was easy for the elder to record.

With a wave of the elder’s hand, there was paper that appeared in the air along with a brush. However, it didn’t move that many times before the paper was sent off to the side.

After all, there were only a few moves that had been made that needed to be recorded.

Even so, the elder had a satisfied look on his face as he made this recording.

Then the board reset and the pieces swapped.

It seemed like it was the same as before, it was still a best two out of three match.

This time, it was the elder’s turn to go first and the elder didn’t hold back at all. The moment that the piece slammed down on the board, there was this powerful roar that rang out.

"AO!"

This was a roar that was filled with prestige and might, a sound that should have shattered any eardrum that heard it. But Lin Fan just calmly faced this roar and the illusion dragon that had released that roar.

With a single glance, the dragon suddenly shattered apart and he was back in front of the board.

Since it wasn’t his turn first, the system activated right away and gave him the guidance that he needed. However, Lin Fan didn’t put the piece down right away this time as he took some time to check on his body.

There was another strange feeling that filled him after he came out of this illusion.

This wasn’t something that he had felt before and he could tell that it was something related to the illusion that he just saw. Other than that, he could tell that there was still something that was left behind from the previous game.

When Lin Fan looked closely, he was surprised to find that there were insights inside of him.

These were insights into different cultivation methods that he had never touched before, but somehow had gained from the illusions.

One was sword cultivation and one seemed to be dragon might.

But where did they come from?

No matter how he looked at it, it didn’t seem like a simple illusion should have been enough for this.

So to test it out, Lin Fan followed the system’s guidance and placed a piece on the board. During this time, he had prepared himself for whatever illusion the elder was going to show him next.

"Pa!"

"Shing!"

This time, it was a spear that stabbed right into his chest.

When the illusion was gone, Lin Fan could tell that there was insight on spear techniques that was inside of him.

It turned out that it really was the illusion that had been teaching him things.

But he just couldn’t understand how this was possible...

Seeing the way that Lin Fan looked at him, the elder suddenly said, "The board itself is a mini world and it’s a contest between different forms of insight. As long as one has a certain level of understanding, they’ll be able to imbue their pieces with those insights."

Then after a pause, the elder added, "If someone’s instincts are good, they’ll be able to steal some of that insight for themselves."

As he said this, he looked at Lin Fan once more like he was looking at a monster.

Lin Fan didn’t need to guess why the elder was looking at him like this, he already knew that it was because of the system’s guidance. But since the elder had said all of this, he couldn’t help wondering what kind of illusions the elder saw.

After all, it wasn’t as if he was imbuing any of his insights into the pieces that he placed down, so it wasn’t as if the elder would see anything special.

What Lin Fan didn’t know was that the elder was definitely seeing something with each piece that was played. It was something that was the perfect representation of the plays that Lin Fan made.

As the elder was bombarded by the different pieces that appeared, it showed him just how much insight into the game Lin Fan possessed.

It was also why the elder always looked at Lin Fan like he was looking at some kind of monster.

Though in reality, it was the system’s insight that was being transferred and Lin Fan was nothing more than a vessel for that. So in the end, the elder was just complaining about the wrong person.

Other than explaining this, there was another reason that the elder had said all of this.

He didn’t feel that the reward from the pavilion alone was enough, which was why he had specifically used these different insights of his. Otherwise, there really was no reason for him to imbue all these different insights into his pieces.

What the elder was doing was helping Lin Fan by giving him all of these insights.

In short, he was passing more than just the legacy of the pavilion to him. The elder was even passing down his personal legacy to Lin Fan through this match and the different moves that he made.

That was just how much he approved of Lin Fan...or it was better to say that this was how much he approved of Lin Fan’s system.

In reality, Lin Fan was doing nothing more than benefitting from it.

This time, it took the same amount of moves for Lin Fan to beat the elder.

Even with the elder going all out, it wasn’t as if he could do anything in front of the sheer power of the system.

"Just what kind of monster are you?" The elder even said this out loud when the game was over.

However, this wasn’t what Lin Fan and the others were paying attention to.

The only thing that they were paying attention to was the fact that the elder was disappearing.

The elder had really pushed himself to the limit in this game and was on the cusp of fading away. But it was a problem that he hadn’t passed on this pavilion before fading away.

Seeing the way that Lin Fan looked at him, the elder pointed at the board and said, "You’ve already made the connection, you just weren’t paying attention to it."

Lin Fan was caught off guard hearing this, but then he looked down at the board in front of him.

When he had been reminded of this by the elder, he could tell that there was a link between him and this board.

Not only that, he could tell that there were different things that he could use this board for.

It really was a strange key, but it was strangely fitting for this pavilion.

Realizing this, the look on Lin Fan’s face relaxed.

Seeing his expression relax, Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu also seemed to relax. Though right after that, Xiao Mu focused on the board once more as if it wanted to see more from this game.

The elder didn’t say anything else as he floated over to the records of the two games that he made.

While Lin Fan had been staring at the board, the elder had already finished the record of the second game. Since it was just a few moves, it was just as easy to record as the third game.

With a sigh, the elder said in a voice filled with regret, "Why couldn’t you have appeared sooner?"

But no one could answer this question for him and the elder wasn’t even looking for an answer in the first place.

As he stared at these records, he faded away into nothingness.

Then Xiao Mu sat down in front of Lin Fan and said, "Let’s play."
