Chapter 1533: Play a game (2)
The moment that this piece fell onto the board, Lin Fan learned what had happened to Xiao Mu.
From time to time, there were periods where Xiao Mu fell into a daze.
It turned out that it had fallen into the illusion of the go board.
The moment that this piece fell down, Lin Fan found himself on a battlefield.
He knew that this was an illusion that was cast by the board that was in front of him, but at the same time, it was a bit strange to call it an ’illusion’. After all, what this was was a representation of the battle that was being fought on the board.
This was a battle between the black and white pieces.
It was just that he didn’t have a moment to catch his breath as the scene in front of him changed once more.
It wasn’t that Lin Fan was sent to a different battlefield, but rather there were soldiers that appeared in front of him. They were rank and file soldiers that were charging right at him.
This was clearly just the first attack that a commander would send, so it wasn’t as if it was anything dangerous. At the same time, Lin Fan was fully aware that this wasn’t something that was actually happening to him.
It was better to say that this was some kind of mental attack rather than a physical attack.
When cultivation was involved with go, it became a battle of wills.
So if he didn’t have a strong will, then he would have been swept away by the will of the other side.
With a breath, Lin Fan just walked right past the soldiers that were charging at him.
They were illusions, so they faded away the moment that he walked past them.
After they faded, the scene in front of him cleared and he found that he was back in front of the board once more.
Only this time, his system had activated when he stared at the board.
At the very least, Lin Fan had something to follow now and he could play properly.
This time, there was a surprised hum that came from the elder when he placed his piece on the board. It even seemed for a moment that the elder had fallen into the same state that he had been in just now.
But that didn’t last long since the elder was a veteran and had long learned how to deal with this.
Only it didn’t seem like the elder was planning to put a piece down.
After he put down his piece, there was a long moment of silence that followed as the elder just stared at the board in front of him.
The awkward part of this was how the elder looked up at Lin Fan from time to time.
Lin Fan didn’t need to be a genius to see the way that the elder was looking at him. It was clear that the elder was wondering if he had changed into a completely different person.
After all, the difference between his first move and his second move was like heaven and hell.
In the end, the elder still made a move.
When Lin Fan saw the move that the elder made through the system’s guidance, he was impressed by the level of the elder. Even without the guidance of the system, he could tell that this was an impressive move based on his small bit of knowledge about the game.
Though the real demonstration of the elder’s power was the illusion that came after the piece landed on the board.
As expected, there was an illusion that was formed and the effects were greater than before.
"Pow! Pow! Pow!"
This time, it wasn’t a line of foot soldiers that charged forward. This time, it was a row of cannons that fired at him at the same time.
But even if the attack was stronger, it wasn’t as if the elder was able to dominate Lin Fan’s will.
At the same time, the system’s guidance was still working even though he was inside of the illusion.
To Lin Fan’s surprise, he found that the system was actually guiding him through this illusion as well. It was pointing out the weak spots of this illusion and the best way to break through it.
In fact, it was even showing him how to completely ignore this illusion for next time.
"I guess as long as it’s considered part of the game, it will still analyze it?" That was Lin Fan’s guess, but really he had no idea why the system was still working in this illusion.
But with the guidance of the system, he did break through the illusion with a single thought. Even if he was confused by why it had appeared, it was still good for him.
Once he was out of the illusion, Lin Fan didn’t hesitate to put down the next piece.
It wasn’t as if he had to fully understand why he put this piece down right now, he could take the time to review the game later.
It was just that the moment that he put down the piece, it seemed like the elder had fallen into a daze. It wasn’t the same as before where it was a small dazed state that the elder quickly recovered from.
This time, it seemed like the elder had been completely lost inside of the illusion that formed.
Lin Fan couldn’t help being surprised by this, but it wasn’t as if he couldn’t understand why this was happening. It was all because this was a move that the system had guided him to make.
Having the system was a cheat, so there was no doubting the power of the system.
When the elder finally came back from his daze, he looked at Lin Fan with shock in his eyes. This was completely different from the way that the elder had looked at Lin Fan previously.
Before, he had still looked at Lin Fan as if he regarded Lin Fan as a junior.
But this time, it was clear that he was regarding Lin Fan as an equal or even someone that was above him.
However, there was also this strange sensation that came from the elder’s eyes that Lin Fan understood the moment that he saw it.
"What a monster."
That was the gist of the look that he gave Lin Fan.
It took a long time before the elder finally made his next move.
Part of it was because of the shock that he suffered at Lin Fan’s hands. The other part was because he was taking this seriously.
In the beginning, he had treated this as some kind of learning game after seeing the simple move that Lin Fan started with. But now that things had developed this far, it really was hard for him to treat it as such.
"Boom!"
"Die!"
"Ah!"
The moment that the piece fell, it was all out war that appeared in front of Lin Fan.
The elder wasn’t holding back at all with this move, as shown by the illusion that appeared in front of Lin Fan this time. It seemed like the elder was playing with all his might, it seemed like the elder was out for blood.
But even so, the system was showing Lin Fan all of the weak spots of the illusion.
Once again, it only took a single thought from Lin Fan to break through this illusion and return to place another piece down.
"Ke, ke..." When the elder came out of his daze, he suddenly started coughing as if he had suffered a large blow.
Lin Fan couldn’t help being caught off guard when he saw this, but he couldn’t stop as he saw the fanatical look on the elder’s face.
Even though the elder had clearly suffered a strong blow from this move, it didn’t seem like he was planning on backing down at all. It was almost as if he was planning to burn to ashes in this one game, giving everything that he had to achieve something.
So in the end, Lin Fan could only keep playing.
Once the elder placed down his piece, it was different this time.
"Shing!"
There was only a single sound before Lin Fan felt like he had been cut in half.
This illusion was that of a single powerful slash, which was equivalent to the move that the elder had played. But in the end, this was nothing more than an illusion and he easily broke through with the help of the system.
Once he was out, Lin Fan found that there was something strange inside of him.
Only he didn’t dwell too much on it in the end since he could see the way that the elder was looking at him.
The only thing that he could do was place another piece down.
It took twice as long as before for the elder to come back to his senses and this time it was almost as if he was completely lost as he stared at the board.
No matter how he looked at the board, it looked like he wasn’t able to find a single good spot to put a piece down.
His eyes kept darting across the board almost as if he was desperate to find a way forward. But it didn’t matter how the elder stared at the board, it really didn’t seem like he was able to find anything.
So in the end, it seemed like he took a piece and put it in a random spot.
